Marks and Spencers Epic Fail

If you call this an 'epic fail' then you really do need to get out more.0

Do you honestly think that M&S are totally altruistic. They do all this charity stuff because they get tax cuts. Corporate tax evasion is rife or do you honestly believe that M&S are in business for our benefit..FGS.
For heavens sake, dont you guys ever get really p*ssed off about minor stuff. No - you are all saints beyond reproach.
No one thinks M&S do what they do for altruistic reasons...they do it for purely commercial reasons, they are answerable to shareholders. Having eco friendly policies is popular with their core consumers so it makes business sense to have those policies. And yes some of their activities may also help them to avoid tax (note the word avoid and not evade - these are two different things and you may want to look up the difference before you get yourself into trouble wrongfully accusing someone of tax evasion).
And no I'm not a saint but I don't get so wound up about something so inconsequential that I feel a need to go on a forum and have a rant about it. Perhaps I'm a more laid back person or perhaps I am better at putting little things into perspective and not allowing myself to get into such a wound up state.
I will defend a company who is (in my eyes) being unjustly slagged off on a public forum.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
Epic fail of the use of an epic fail.
I for one am more than happy for retailers to charge for bags, cut down on landfill and waste, encouraging recycling and reuse and help the planet's resources last just that little longer.0 -
Oh dear oh dear. It was a rant post. Not a political hot potato. I was ranting as I was p*ssed off. At the end of every day M&S sweep all the bags on the floor into a bin. I know I have worked there.
I was on a very quick train journey, I dont carry plastic bags in my bag otherwise of course we wouldnt be having this conversation.
I feel better for having a rant but you lot out there just totally dont get what a rant is...
I don't get upset by trivia like this. I believe you've blown the whole thing out of proportion. You are entitled to rant, however I am entitled to the opinion that the post reflects more badly on you than the shop.0 -
so you decided to kick off on an innocent shop assistant, nice. Its not like she is the CEO of m&s0

Over a 5p bag? If only we all had your problems.
I am sure we could have a whipround here on MSE and make your world perfect againThinking critically since 1996....0 -
Popped into Marks to pick up some sandwiches before catching a train. My daughter was with me and she chose some bits as well. I was the traveller and the payer so wanted mine in a separate free bag. I asked for another small FREE bag and she said that we could only have one free bag per customer. We would have to therefore stump up 5p for another bag.
I honestly didnt think I had heard her correctly and she repeated what she had said. 'They charge 5p in Wales for a free bag' she said. I pointed out that I was in Skipton not Swansea. I was by this time absolutely raging. She couldnt have cared less and promptly gave me the look of 'I dont care so buzz off'. My daughter reigned me in and after I had paid we walked out with disgust all over our faces.
I call it mean and pernicious. I know they are having a bit of a knock but so are we - the hard pressed customer. PR is not now on top of their priority list and profit is all encompassing to them. Poor us (general public) being at their mercy - all for a free 5p bag that wasnt.
Sorry, I can't see the epic fail......Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
What pi$$e$ me off is seeing discarded plastic bags in hedgerows and roadside grass verges where people just don't care about the environment, creatures that could be caught up in them, or just the untidiness of our surroundings.
Any moves to reduce the number of bags "available" to be discarded get my vote - could be described as an Epic Success.

Why did you need two bags? A sandwich doesn't require a bag, especially when you are getting on a train.0

So you had 1 free bag instead of 2? I thought that M&S had been charging for all bags for food purchases for years. (I'm in Wales though, and already my memory's a bit fuzzy of who charged what before the blanket 5p charge)0
