Having said that, what exactly do you want us to do or say? Scam companies exist and you did the right thing by ignoring them.:)0 -
I invariably ignore posts that are difficult to understand because of poor English. Make an effort to type understandably and I'll make an effort to answer. At the very least, begin a sentence with a capital letter.
In addition, none of the posts were questions so they didn't require a reply anyway. (Tip: a question ends with a single question mark.)chillipepper13 wrote: »give them a chance????????0 -
Hi,
I've looked at my elderly grandads bank statements and noticed a lot of satellite insurance companies taking money from his account. I've looked through his paperwork and there's at least 12 live policies covering his satellite, some of these policies are from the same companies set up days apart with slightly different names and some of the companies have different names but the same registered address.
He's starting to loose his memory quite rapidly but I still very much doubt he would of took out all these policies, my bet is that they're related companies passing on his bank details or ringing him up claiming he's already a customer.
I'm tempted to simply cancel all of these direct debits and send them a letter explaing the situation but I'm just worried they'll start harrassing him with warnings for non-payment. Can anyone offer advice as the contracts all claim to be rolling which are only cancellable at the end of a term.
Thanks for your help0 -
I would cancel ALL these policies. I would not simply cancel the DD's as that could cause you/your grandad alot more stress!

I'd be contacting all these firms and cancelling forthwith. With the insurance which comes from the same company I'd be cancelling immediately and demanding a refund of the significant overlap of cover they have sold your Granddad.
I'd also contact trading standards on the basis that these companies have taken advantage of a vulnerable elderly customer to open several needless insurance policies covering the same thing.0 -

I think your first move should be to have your grandfather write to his bank and notifying them to stop all DDs in favour of the company involved. It wouldn't hurt to ask the bank to acknowledge in writing that they have received these instructions.
Then I think you can probably sit back and wait.
You (or grandfather) will possibly receive a number of phone calls or letters asking for payments and making threats. You can either reply or ignore them. Only if they successfully take your grandfather to court can they get any further funds from him. I think it is highly unlikely that they would do that, since they must know that they are trading on a very shady basis and any judge would see through the front.
After canceling the DDs, you could of course try to recover some or all of the payments already made. If you have time on your hands this could be quite rewarding. You could at least begin by asking for refunds on duplicated ‘cover’. Of course the provider is not going to give your grandfather a refund, so now it is your turn to issue a County Court claim for the amount involved. I doubt that they will appear in court to defend your claim, in which case you obtain judgment by default. You can then begin to make their lives a misery (with the law on your side) to obtain the money you are owed.0 -
I would explain to your Granddad that in cancelling the policies the money saved would more than cover the total cost of renewing his satellite system should it ever be necessary 100 times over. You scullion! You rampallian! You fustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe (Henry IV part 2)0

Cancel all, inform them you have done so and tel them if you do not receive a refund within 10days or if you receive any demands for payment you will.
1. Report them to the FSA for trading while unregistered.
2. Seek a full refund plus costs through the county courts.

My elderly mother rec'd a phonecall a few days ago and all she heard was it's Sky calling and started to talk her into insurance for her Sky equipment etc... normally she would say no thank you and put the phone down but this guy called Richard knew she had recently had her Sky dish moved as she was having problems with the signal due to a neighbours tree so just presumed it was an official call from Sky. By the end of the phonecall she had given him her Debit Card details to which he knew most of the info on her card already which would seem to me that someone from Sky is selling customers details to this company called Digiclub who after talking to Sky since have nothing to do with them and are looking into further. We have cancelled my mom's debit card so that no payments are taken by this method and she did say at end of call she wasn't interested. Please tell any elderly relatives of this con of Insurance for their Sky equipment as it is not needed and under usual warranty anyway. The more people who are aware of this the better.0
