As an ex-Sky engineer I second this advice,I too have never seen the need for these policies.0 -

I have called them and they have no record of a direct debit mandate but claim my husband set this up. They also say they don't have a record of the conversation.
Whn we took out our subscription with sky my husband and I discussed insurance and agreed not to take it out. We are perplexed about this and have paid 500 quid to these people , how depressing. Any suggestions, aside of get a lobotomy reversal...Needless to say the direct debit has been canned....
Norm5. This has also happened to me. see my blog under norm5. i noticed that my card had been used to set up repeat monthly£6 payments.i did not set the policy up.0 -
Just had this bunch of clowns (or maybe another "warranty" company) trying to sell me a warranty for £65 a year.
I kept them on the phone for a good 20 minutes before deciding enough was enough and lied in saying "well it sounds like very good value for money but sadly I have Freeview".

Just had a call on the above number from someone purporting to represent SKY, he didnt ask for my SKY telephone password so thought he was a bit suss. He gave me this long spiel about covering my SKY equipment for £8 a month in the event of breakdown. I told him I am a new customer and havent received half the equipment yet but that if anything did break down I would expect SKY to fix it. He said that the equipment SKY provide is my equipment so I would have to pay for any repairs or replacements. I didnt appreciate the approach so said NO-THANKS.
Just checked my T&Cs and there is a 12 month warranty on my 12 month contract. The amount of time its taking them to provide my set-up and now this makes me less inclined to stay with them in 12 months time.
Anyone else have a similar 0800 479 0758 experience?0 -
If you want insurance then contact Sky or an insurance company directly-never sign up to unsolicited cold callers.Just checked my T&Cs and there is a 12 month warranty on my 12 month contract. Most agree that even legitimate satellite equipment insurance policies are a waste of money, especially in the first year as any faults should be dealt with under warranty.0 -

You don't need this cover, as it's warrantied by Sky for the first 12m (but it is your equipment from day one-it is not leased from Sky).
After 12m, in the unlikely event of a fault, a call to Sky retentions saying that you can't afford to pay for a service call and will have to cancel your sub will invariably result in a free service call.
Worst case-a service call is £65-less than the cost of the annual insurance. No free lunch, and no free laptop

First year you are covered by a standard 12 month warrenty. After that if things go wrong it's a £65 call out fee.Any equipment Sky replace is covered by a 3 month warranty.
These repair plans are a complete waste of time & I'm saying that from not only my view but also that of a Sky engineer.
You pay £96 a YEAR for a Sky protection plan when a Service Call costs £65.....AND if the system is properly installed then the chances of you needing a service call are extremely slim.
My neighbor has one & has had one for nearly 10 years since he moved in.to date he's paid about £1000 & never had a call out once. That £1000 could be put to better use, like a holiday, savings or something..0 -
Very useful info Spike. Got one of these Sky/D&G packs in the post this morning so have now filed it under B for Bin!
