We have the white Sky+ box (approx 7 years old) in one room and the HD box in another.
The HD box has to be switched off several times a week now to reboot it as it will not show us what is on and says that x programme started 776549387474 minutes ago. I looked at upgrading the white Sky+ box but it's £109.
I only intending on getting the Sky Protect for one year to get a new box out of it - give it a month or so to make the service call and then ring and get it cancelled after 11 months. It would also give us some scope if the White Sky+ box failed (it went a bit iffy this week and we have not used it for a while). We also have problems with the satallite signal and cables but hubby fixes all the cables and the dish connection thing himself when there are problems but the HD box seems to be failing this time. £99 is cheaper than £109 for a new box. I'd rather not buy a 2nd hand or recon one and if I was from Sky it would have 12 months warranty.
And Sky do come on a Sunday as they came to install the HD box on a Sunday. I did not want to get the package and find it takes a month for them to come and fix.
So again, on that basis, for one year and to get a new box, is it worth it??
It was not about getting it fixed straightaway really, more about getting it fixed within a reasonable amount of time.
Freesat is a satellite service through the same dish and LNB as your Sky service. I presume you mean Freeview, which is a terrestial service through an aerial? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Oh right, sorry I do not know.
If you do not have a Sky dish you have to have some sort of special ariel which looks double the usual size - we do not have any aerial because we have always had Sky.
Sorry, I do not really know how it works, just that my neighbour was complaining about the signal and having to get this massive aerial put up because he did not have Sky.0 -

The going price for a Sky HD box on Flebay is currently running at under £40. I was wondering if it was worth selling mine after cancelling but at that price it's not so I'm moving it to the bedroom for the HD Channels?.
Certainly not worth any of these Sky Repair agreements that is for sure.0 -
Box has stopped all playback now so I guess it's time for a new box. The warranty is not going to work as it'll be too obvious. Spike, can you please give me your opinion on these items, I assume I can just switch them over, plug it in and replace the card:

Looks OK, Can I copy the stuff I have on the old one, onto the new one?? Do I need extra leads for this??
But also an upgrade to the 1TB - is it worth it??

I repeat, you don't need an aerial for Freesat, you just use your existing Sky dish with a Freesat box. It's a straight box swap.
Your neighbour is not receiving Freesat on his aerial, he is receiving Freeview-an entirely different platform..No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
OK, I get that now thanks.
We do not want Freesat nor Freeview but Sky, hence the need for a new box.0 -

I would go with this one as the first one has a lot of 'little white lies' in the blurb.
For example, all the new boxes are 3D ready, the 2012 software is currently being rolled out by Sky (mine upgraded over night about a month ago) and all the new boxes are smaller than the first generation.
The second one also offers a 12 month warranty.

All you'd need to do is swap the box over & do an installer set up which you can find in the link below;

As for copieing the stuff from the old one over, you can but it's very complicated & as the PSU's failed,it'd involve removing the HD from the bust box.0
