Welcome to all the newer people, look forward to following everyone's journeys and updates :D

Well.... I have scales! They were £10 from Asda but are good Salter ones and even have a way to calculate body fat  Haven't tried that function yet!

So I know my starting weight now & I do have exactly one stone I'd like to lose, I'll post up tomorrow since that is our weigh in day.

I even managed to be good. I can't resist supermarkets and I was quite peckish after I picked up my order, but I completely resisted all the temptations and bought an exotic fruit salad, a papaya and some nectarines, plus a bit more salad & veg :)

Bad - I also sneaked in a bottle of wine (and shhhh, we had a glass each last night too :o ).

I know I need to knock mid week drinking on the head to see real effects, not to mention the wallet & health aspects, but it's become such a habit to unwind with a glass or three. My job is very full on and I'm out the door by 7.30am and home after 6pm most days, so the wine is kind of my treat (excuses...!). The problem, weight aside, is once I've had the glass, any motivation to go for a nice walk or similar is gone & if I'm not careful OH & I polish off a bottle. It definitely affects my blood sugar the next day as I feel peckish all day then.

We're lucky to have a good social life & weekends are party time, so I really don't need extra alcohol in the week. It would be far better to be strict in the week rather than pretend I can be moderate, and I can let my hair down at weekends rather than it all 'adding up' IYKWIM!

But, in philosophical mood, I've already made changes so it's probably slowly slowly and not feel overt guilt as there is simply no point in a life spent punishing myself over things I enjoy. It's all about balance, so they say :D

On the upside, I finally went out at lunch and had about a half hour walk.

WTB - I completely agree that cutting out a particular food simply makes you want it more. Like you, I am just opting for healthier choices where feasible and being a bit more thoughtful in terms of what I buy and if I am genuinely hungry or not before I just shove food in.

Today I've simply had 2 bananas an (another) chicken salad for lunch, plus a small handful of mixed nuts. I've marinated some quite chunky pork chops in a spicy herb & lemon mix to cook later for dinner, to have with a mixed bean salad. The weather is really a blessing as I definitely crave salads, fruit & lighter foods when it's like this!

Hope everyone's had an enjoyable day.
Proud to be a moneysaver :)
  • Hi must have been something in the air last night as we also had some wine :o I've been fairly "good" up to now, taking a packed lunch to work with a huge salad and fruit for snacking. Today I made a tuna sarnie with the barest smidge of mayonnaise and tonight we had chili-con-carne but put lots of veg in it too (all a bit past its best but chopped up small, was very tasty) the heat has taken the edge off my appetite I think too.

Nice to see so many new people joining in here :)

Weigh in tomorrow is stopping me from retrieving the last of the wine from the fridge, thankfully!

Going to read Gunsandbanjos link, looks interesting. I like the idea of eating sensibly and not cutting out specific foods as the instant I feel that I'm on a diet then I feel the need to break it.:(
  • Well that's me weighed. I'm 1.5lbs lighter which I'm pleased with as I didn't go mad and cut out everything :rotfl:

Well, I'm quite chuffed too. Although I don't know what I weighed a week ago, I am now 9 stone 11. I'm 5'3 if that puts it into context.

I'd like to be dead on 9 stone, or slightly under. That's the weight that best suits my frame so is close to a stone to lose. No particular timeframe as I know losing it too quickly just piles it back on again. I'd like to think of this as a lifestyle change as I've really yo-yo'd over the years, losing and gaining up to 2 stone in cycles, despite not being a dieter.

Hope everyone has a good day. Most importantly it's Friiiddaaaay!! :D

Weighed as well and my weight hasn't moved. :(. Now admittedly I had a chocolate bar yesterday (late on after doing so well having rice crispies as a snack earlier) and running around doing interviews this week I haven't eaten that brilliantly (macaroni cheese for lunch 2 days in a row) but I had been keeping an eye on calories (have an app on my phone) and would have thought I would have lost some weight.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

Very well done I Wanna, and sorry to hear for everyone else there has been no losses.

BUT! We could be ultra sneaky & declare this as the start ;) My posted weight is my starting weight so everyone who didn't lose any can simply pretend theirs is too. Genius! :D

Interestingly, I read quite a lot of research some time ago that says that diet, rather than exercise, is the key contributor to weight loss. It made it into more popular media today in the form of the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-18985141

This is backed by my own (unscientific!) research as well. Happily it coincides with me hating exercise. Sadly exercise does have lots of health benefits, so I really should do some however.

Don't be disheartened or give up. I'm the worst for berating myself or losing interest but this time I'm determined to keep going. Hopefully you will all see wonderful losses by next Friday! :)

Oops, despite my best intentions, people kept bringing cake to work and 'forcing' me to eat it by cruely putting it in front of me. So inconsiderate ;)

I've eaten moderately well in between, so thankfully haven't put on, but more by luck than design :p

    So here's to a fresh-fresh start.
    :j
I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.
  • I agree about the cake at work thing! Everyone seems to have their birthday at the moment and when it's not their birthday it's ooh lets have cake for the Olympics etc. So difficult! Especially as they put them on the empty desk next to me :(

I think my weight loss may have been partly water retention from TOTM to be fair :o

    Onwards and upwards! :j
