    Can I join in please?

I am just excercising lots and eating less junk food. But i'm still eating what I want but because I am keeping myself occupied I have less time to think about eating junk. I do Zumba and Kettlercise which are fun and great calorie burners. Has anyone here done Kettlercise - it is very hard, but so worth it! I also do a few gentle swims.

Gutted I can't go to class tonight because I have managed to pull a muscle near my ribs :(. So instead sat here eating pic and mix. See what I mean about keeping myself busy?!

Just thought I'd add my recent experience, as both my wife and I have lost 15 lbs (7 kg) since the end of January. We 're both nearly 60, retired and live a sedentary lifestyle.

At the beginning of the year we decided that we would both like to lose about a stone. Our BMI were between 25 and 26, so I wouldn't say we were a lot overweight , more about being concerned about it being more difficult to lose as you get older.

We have tried diets before, so this time we decided to try the old calories counter. I downloaded an app for my IPad called MyFitnesspal. There's also a website to use if you don't have a smartphone. You enter your details and it works out your calorie needs, and then adjusts it for how much you want to lose per week.

Youd then enter every day (or after each meal or snack) the food you have had. It has a huge database of foods (brands, supermarket etc) or you can just enter the details, but generally they are in the database ( you can also read the barcode if you have a smartphone). This really focuses the mind on he calories food contains.

I think the key thing for us, is that we had what we wanted, within our calories range. so for example I always have a bit of chocolate as a snack in the evening. Today I had 10 maltesers ( 110 calories), another day I might have 10 smarties. In the 6 months since we've been doing this, I can honestly say we've never felt hungry.

You can enter exercise you do, so it adjusts your calories for the day.

We have now adjusted our eating habits, and still track our calorie intake, as we want to ensure we maintain our weight loss. We lost our weight quite slowly, and my wife in particular lost hers from all over her frame, whereas on previous quick result diets, it was from one or two places.

If you need some additional incentive I would recommend having a look at this ( or something similar), as it worked for us.

gunsandbanjos- thanks for that link it sounds really interesting! I like the idea that nothing is forbidden.

Ames- hi, and welcome :) Sorry to hear about the pulled muscle! I have a friend who goes to Zumba and kettlercise, she says they are great! I would like to try zumba, and also aqua zumba that they do at my local gym.

KathysBoy- thanks for the advice re myfitnesspal. I have heard of it, but never looked into it before, i'll give it another lok over. Well done to you and your wife on the weightloss!

Well, i have done well today. Had sandwiches for dinner, as we werent all that hugry (for a change!). The food cupboards are virtually empty, so i have ordered our shop to be delivered 8-10am tomorrow.
We are staying at home tomorrow as we have been out and about over the last few days and i need to catch up on housework, washing, budgeting etc.

Thanks for the welcome, I am hoping it will be better tomorrow so I can go to Kettlercise. It is just annoying because I actually look forward to excerising now instead of dreading it!

I actually have myfitnesspal on my phone but have never used it. Tbh it would probably take me too long to input everything.

Hi everyone, can I join you all? I don't have a huge amount to lose, and i really can't be bothered to do the WW/SW thing again just yet. WW worked really well for me but it was a couple of years ago and the weight is starting to creep up again. Now they've changed it all, I feel resentful at having to relearn it all, so would rather do it by calories.

I used MyFitnessPall last time, and it really did motivate me to keep a food diary, so I've just logged back onto it - thanks for reminding me of it KathysBoy :)

My starting weight is 11 stone exactly and I would like to be 10 stone 7 before Xmas.

Cutting back starts tomorrow, looking forward to weigh in on Friday :D Thanks for the thread WTBSE x

    Morning all!

Welcome Joey :) Good luck with your weightloss too.

Well, i am awaiting my tesco delivery so that i can have breakfast. I am quite repetitive sometimes, once i know i like something, i have it over and over! Breakfast for me at the moment is always granola and coconut yogurt. Its so lovely!!

As soon as breakfast has been eaten, i am going to get us all dressed and then walk up to the post office sorting office, as i have a few parcels to collect. I would normally drive, but i am trying to get a bit of exercise and also save petrol. Besides, the weather is so nice, there is NO EXCUSE!

I might take the kids for a walk in the woods later too, although it depends on if my oldest od going to cooperate. He is at that pre teen stage where he can be quite stubborn (trying to assert his independance...grrr!!!).

Have a good day whatever you are doing!

Morning, stuck in waiting for a package to be picked up.

WTB it is a great way of eating and makes total sense, but like anything you have to actively do it. It does become second nature very quickly.

Watched a very overweight lady on the bus yesterday mindlessly shovelling sweets, it's so easy to do and she probably didn't even remember eating them.

    Hi all.
Been good today, but i think its because i am aware its almost Friday (weigh in day!) :D

Didnt have the usual for breakfast! Had a banana instead, then malt loaf for snack, bacon & tomato sandwich for lunch (i think its a bit healthy considering i grilled the bacon and had it on granary bread) with 2 choc biscuits. About to have an apple as snack now, and then having prawn salad for dinner this evening.

I think its really important thing for me to never cut out any food from my diet, because as as soon as i cut it out all i do is crave it! Thats where i normally go wrong i think, so i am allowing myself anything i want, just in moderation (but not having any alcohol at the moment as it just makes me eat more!). As long as i can carry this on for the long term, its all good!

I really fancied having something sweet today as a snack, I ended up having a bowl if rice crispies instead. Low fat and low calorie.
