    Evening,

Not quite a NSD today. £3.50 in the local corner shop on snacks for the kids while we were out, whoops, didn't take quite enough.

Dinner today was sausage and bacon casserole i made the other day for the freezer, it was yum, we had it with the 35p YS new pots from yesterday. Pudding again was fruit and ice cream.

Today i've also made some YS mince and veg, bulked out with 2 of my YS courgettes, grated, peas carrots onions etc, made 3 large portions, each of which will feed the 5 kids and me :D And i have also just used my 74p YS gormet burger to make 27 mini meatballs, they're on a tray freezing so i can bag them up to save space.

    Hi Katy

I have been a single Mum for 16 months now, and have 3 children aged 2,4, and 6. My youngest was just 9 months, when he left.

Believe me it does get easier, this summer has been a lot easier than the last one. After all that I found out about my ex since he left I have come to realise that we are better off without him. It is a struggle every month to pay the bills, but somehow I do it. Have found out heaps using the forums, and so it has helped.

I'm 6 weeks in and doing ok. It's nice to be 100% in control of everything including money, he use to spend so much of it on himself at the kids expense, :( We're still trying to be friends but it's hard.

Have you considered getting an electric meat slicer, I have had one for a while now and it is a godsend, as you can cut the meat so thinly, you seem to get so much more from any boneless joint, even from a joint that looks rather small.

    Just a suggestion

Oooooh I had never even though of that!! Might pop it on my Christmas wishlist this year, last year my parents got me a really good sharp knife, a knife sharpener and a Jamie Oliver veg peeler so I guess kitchen stuff is kind of a theme for my presents anyway :rotfl:

No spend day today, work and then went swimming (have a membership so free :A) and then made mac and cheese with broccoli and a side salad, not too healthy but oh well.

You sound like you're doing fantastic KatyReed+5 - cant imagine being alone with five kids (don't have any yet) and still managing to save money on groceries :T

Just popping in to update total with a spend of £4.05 today on 2 huge pasties for the eldest 2 DC for dinner tonight. Bit of a treat for them :)

We're on hols next week so am on a mission to use things up in the fridge. Scrapings of jam pots and some leftover blackberry compote made jam tarts today, kids are doing well at eating the yogurts. DH and I had some RTC new pots parboiled and lightly fried off in oil, chilli and a wee sprinkling of alt with omelettes (to use up eggs and salad!) I've grated teh courgettes which were beginning to go a bit squidgy and have frozen them for use in soup/ chilli/ bolognese. Have also sliced and griddled the courgettes for use in pasta sauces :D We should just about have enough fruit and veg left to see us through the week (will use up the half pot of double cream with the half tin of peaches and some meringues - yum) Hopefully any further spends should only be bread, milks - and a box of Shreddies....! ;)

Yet more spending, £25.82 in Mr S. yet again on nothing much needed (bar bread and bananas) oh and sausages! The rest of it was just stuff I (and OH)were swayed by in store. Well got some cheap branded shampoos and hair gel (he uses it) in their Rtc section.

    .....off to update once again!

Update with first spend of the month as I needed cheese and veggies for the pasta tonight. I also succumbed and bought 2 packs of sausages ( one to go with the pasta as OH was complaining he wasn't getting enough protein and as he's on marathon training what could I do). Picked up a pack of cooking bacon which Im about to portion up.

An overall spend of £11.48 ...

First spend of the month at Mr T - £86.65. That included £20 of sunscreen as my 3-year-old P20 has finally run out. Had to do a serious stock up as we struggled to find anything suitable for breakfast!

Had a go at filling the trolley from memory before checking the list on the way to the check out. There were a couple of things that I spotted and thought "oh I'm sure we're out of that but I forgot to put it on the list" and shoved it in the trolley. When I finally checked the list, turned out they were all on there!

Spent £2 today on 2 loaves of bread and a pack of tomatoes. I thought we only had a bit of a loaf left, and they were still on offer hence the 2 loaves, but then when I got home discovered there was a loaf in the freezer already so we didn't need bread yet after all. Damn, oh well it will get used I'm sure. Off to catch up with the thread now, it moves so fast!
