It doesnt only future proof your system, a Turion core whips a Sempron any time.0

Well it looks like this 1501 dell at £328 is not widescreen.
Would I be right saying this.
Any idea the price of the 6400 ?0 -
The one in the link shoudl be widescreen. If you go in via their site and not the link provided, then it isn't widescreen. Had the same problem myself. If I remember rightly, the hard drive is a smaller size too if you don't go via the first link.0

Yes thanks for that, I see it is widescreen via this link.
I am going to order one but have a few questions maybe someone can answer.
How many usb ports & what other ports does it have ?
Is it silver or black ?
Should I go XP or Vista ? I have XP professional on my laptop just now.
Also on the buy page it asks for a code, know anything about that.
Seems a lot of questions.0 -
It's ok I have lots of questions too. I am still waiting for them to call me back to confirm my order. I wanted Vista but was told by Dell I couldn't have it unless I paid £70 to upgrade the memory (I think). However, told her I'd seen that I could run it without that so she said ok. Said that because I'd gone off spec she'd call me back before 9pm.....
I did get her to agree to Vista Home Premium for £25. Plus the 6 cell battery as I've struggled with battery life on my current Dell laptop.0 -
ps it's silver as are most Dell laptops now0

can anyone recomend or advise as to what is the better
Vista Basic or Windows XP Home
i have ordered & cancelled the £386 Laptop
i cancelled because i was having doubts abouts Vista
and i found out that it was now on offer with XP home
any how when i phoned dell they offered me 10% off the price if i kept the laptop
i agreed
what do you think0 -
Vista seems to me a small step forwards from XP Home. The Vista basic also comes with Dell's own media software (similar to a basic window media centre).
Wireless card works a treat as all other hardware I am using. Two problems I have identified with Vista so far are the lack of support for current versions of ZoneAlarm or Kerio but I guess the built in firewall would do for now (I am using Sandboxie as well which works great). The other problem is the complete absnce of faxing facility with vista basic or premium and I have to find a third party software for this. It was also good that I immediately created a backup image using Acronis after uninstalling all the extra software that came with the laptop.
This helped as installing Kerio (before realising the incompatibility) caused the consistent appearance of the blue screen of death (even in safe mode).
I would recommend Vista only for the fact that all future software and support will be directed towards it and it is not really that bad apart from some teething problems (hopefully).Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????0 -
resolution wise
wxga is 1440 across, xga is 1280 ....0 -
Have been trying to order an XP one through Quidco for hours and its driving me mad
I have entered the code 305 in the first box and N03153XP in the second box dozens of times and always get the Welcome to Premier Dell page. Is it something I am doing wrong?
Incidentally I am on nights....not usually quite this mad!0
