For those of you who buy contact lenses off the internet, just make sure you still go to your optician for a contact lens check now and again. I'm all for saving money but you need to look after your eyes (granted, daily disposables shouldn't do too much damage)!

There's quite a few things, like good shoes and well made clothes, but then I think about it and I believe they last well enough to save money in the end. Good shoes are also important for your feet anyway.

So, it's not a luxury if paying more gets you more, particularly not if it saves money in the end. For example, I buy fairly expensive Philips halogen light bulbs because I like the light, but then again they last twice as long and save about 1/3rd of the energy so eventually they save a few pound by the time they break. I also buy the persil liquid tabs for washing clothes, which aren't cheap, but my clothes last so well with them and are always cleaned really well too, so the actual value is pretty good. Good toothpaste too (arm and hammer), but then again I can't remember the last time I needed a filling so I'm not eager to change what I'm doing as it clearly is working well. I like the Guardian on Saturdays too, but the paper is used again later for lots of things around the house and in the kitchen like cleaning windows, draining fried food and painting things.

I do however like real butter and can't present any way that pays for itself, plus danish pastries on Saturday evenings. Oh, and the occasional dunhill cigarette.
  • Just remembered real butter, wont ever ever be able to give it up :D

This is off topic so hope I don't get into trouble. On the subject of scaring neighbours - when my children were small, I was on the PTA and was responsible for hiring a gorilla suit from the local amdram company for a school event. The kids hadn't seen it so when I got them up in the morning I put it on to amuse them. My (then) husband was just going off to work and it was v early so I didn't expect anyone to be around, so stood at the door with the two girls waving him off, still in the gorilla suit - and my elderly neighbour across the road came out to her car.:rotfl:I meant to explain next time I bumped into her but it happened to be so long afterwards that I didn't feel I could bring the subject up and (perhaps more disturbingly) she didn't mention it so obviously felt it was quite usual for our family ...:D

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: That really made me laugh - thanks!
