Like LoopyLinz I think DH and I have way too many things. He better make the most of them now though with getting made redundant. This could be a good time to show him that lights have an off switch0

I've just got a Lovefilm sub out thanks to Reverbe's recommendation;) We've had it about 3 weeks but are getting through the films fast-we have the 2 disc tarrif. I think if you have a fast trunaround you really get your money's worth.
My other completely non OS conspicuous consumption was some years ago when the kids were babies and toddlers -yes, I bought disposable nappies-and I probably would again:o
I'm quite happy without a dish washer of a tumble dryer though.0 -
ok, let's see, second tv in the bedroom and satellite tv on both, 2 vac cleaners - 1 small one upstairs + 1 down, breadmaker, slow cooker (I love my slow cooker!), remoska, food processor + various mixers, blenders etc etc; then I have a desktop pc and a laptop + 4 ext hard drives and more software than you can shake a stick at, and all used regularly.
I've no room here for a dw or a td, and I'm not sure I would have either but it would be nice to have enough room for them iyswim... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

The main thing in my home which was disproportionately expensive in relation to my other appliances/belongings is my very expensive washing machine. I wanted a combined washer-dryer as I have no outdoor drying space at all, and as they are known for being non energy efficient, I chose to buy the only A rated one on the market. It is a Miele and cost the best part of £1k  but not only is it incredibly quiet (important when you live in an open-plan flat) but Miele's build quality is such that it's supposed to last over 20 years. I am confident that it will be worth the investment over time.
The dishwasher I don't really see as a major luxury, given the fact that I work full time and have a busy life, and I would be put off doing the volume of home-cooking I do if I had to wash it all up by hand. It's a vital piece of the way my OS "jigsaw" has fitted together, ever since I moved to a modern flat which came with space for one.
Similarly the fact that I have a TV in my bedroom, the only reason I had one in the first place is that when I bought a reasonable size telly for the lounge (only a 23" but it's only a small lounge) I moved my 14" portable into my bedroom. The original portable has since died, but I replaced it through Freecycle so no conspicuous consumption there
I spend all my spare cash on my passion - opera and other live classical music - though in fact it works out relatively inexpensive per ticket, as I usually go for cheap seats or standing room, and get quite a few free tickets and programmes due to writing reviews for an online opera magazine. I also never buy drinks at theatre bars - it's far better to wait until afterwards and go to the pub, where you can get two pints of beer and a packet of crisps and still get change from what you'd pay for one titchy glass of bubbly from the Royal Opera House bar!
I've got a reasonable income and no debt except my mortgage. I have quite a lot of luxuries but I plan very carefully to be able to afford them, and I choose which sacrifices are worth making. I haven't had a lengthy foreign holiday since I was a teenager, and I've never had a car or a games console or Sky TV, and you don't miss what you've never had...Operation Get in Shape

Hi guys, I too am one for the DW but I do have to say that we are on our second one which we both had free:D . we saved them from going to the skip that bit longer. However, saying that with having eczema and not being able to have hands in hot water for long it is a godsend. Goes on about once a day-2 days if I can stretch.
Also have a td, have had my new one a year as it is a condenser one and again could not be without it,ds1 has grass allergy so am unable to dry his clothes outside anytime of the year. However, I must say that last night I rinsed kids uniform(not sure how they r dirty as they not been school at all this week)
and as it was late, I dried them on the radiators.....am going to try & do this more I think.
I could not possibly go into computers & things as hubby is a gadet freak:rotfl: . But then I see it as our luxeries as we both work and not very often we go out.
We do have 3 tvs, but this is due to when we have new tv down stairs, the old one gets put upstairs and either replaces ours or the lads. It also means if there is something I want to watch is on I can go and watch it. Also if heating is off, it is nice to lie in nice warm bed and watch a film..
My kitchen gadets, I never buy unless I am absolutley sure I am going to use them. So I have a BM, microwave, coffee maker and SC.:smileyhea:heart: Mrs Lea Nov 5th '11:smileyhea

Oh let's see here.
- 3 tvs in the house. But to be fair, one is in our adult daughter's room, and is hers (its pretty small) for her and her toddler. One is a small one in our bedroom that cost us £8 at a charity shop for DS to use his secondhand PS2. And then a fairly large tv in the main room for everyone.
- Sky+ package - but with toddlers, one on the way, and DH's work schedule, we just don't go out at all, so that's really our evening entertainment - telly and dvds.
- extra freezer - but really this was to save money so we could buy things on sale and freeze to use later
- second hoover upstairs - but it's too difficult to lug the downstairs one up the stairway - it's quite heavy.
-two pcs in the house, but again, one is our adult daughter's which she bought herself, so not really sure that counts either.
We don't have a tumble dryer anymore - we freecycled it ages ago. No dishwasher, no wii, we sold the surround sound system as we weren't really using it. DH would love to get a huge telly, but has agreed to wait until we are reasonably close to debtfree before we start saving for it. And DH's PS2 and games are all secondhand.MSE mum of DS(7), and DS(4) (and 2 adult DCs as well!)DFW Long haul supporters No 210:snow_grin Christmas 2013 is coming soon!!! :xmastree:0 -
Probably my Rayburn :j We bought it half price as it was the plumbed-in shop model, but had only been used for warming up pies, so was in perfect condition :T It earns its keep though - cooks, warms the kitchen, dries the laundry, and more. I'm currently turning a carcase into stock in the oven and sweating onions to make soup on top
The laundry id drying on the creel above it, so no need for a tumble dryer, either.
I'll add this to the existing thread on Old Stylers' secrets - I'm not guilty about mine, so there
