Hi Mooncake, I agree with Alpha, Its been around a long time and was originally devised by doctors to put patients on who were too heavy for the anesthetic (sp) before surgery.
If you have any worries though I would do some of your own research first, there are a lot of resources on line, we are all converts and you won't get a balanced view from us;)0 -
OK - Day 1 of running program.
Felt supercharged today, no idea why had hardly any sleep, but felt really positive, which is why I decided to get hold of the running programme from my friend.
Previously decided to do the exercise BEFORE walking the dog, as I usually crash once we've been out.
So came home, emptied sons lunchbox, finished off his bag of crisps, have absolutley no idea where that came from at all, (and whats even worse I hid them from my dad when he came in to make a cup of tea!)
Had a bottle of water and a black coffee then up to get changed.
Programmed the treadmill for 20 mins and off we go, first 1 min, easy, ran for 1 min at 9.5 (don't know what 9 is, its the speed the treadmill says) felt like a million dollars, despite the crisps, thought I could run forever, slowed down to about 6 to walk, then off we go again. First 2-3 running bits were OK, then it was taking me longer to recover in time for the next one.
I am quite good on the theory of fitness, just not the practise, and the recovery time is a good measure of how fit you are. So I am definitely not!!.
Last 10 minutes was struggling, had to drop down to 8.5 for the runs, and 5.5 for the walks.
BUT I DID COMPLETE IT - Checked my heart rate which went up to about 148 which is not good, nor is the amount of time it took to recover.
Maz you probably think I am a big wimp now, after all it was only 10 mins running in total. But I've started it - Don't think it will only take me 6 weeks though to get up to 25 mins.
Then went out with Dunc, we took a little longer tonight...........0 -
Sue, sounds like you did really well hun, if you'd have found it easy then i'd have said you'd picked the wrong programme...
but a reasonable feeling of exertion is what you're looking for... enough that you can speak in short gaspy sentences, but can speak and be understood..but maybe not be able to hold a real conversation ... IYKWIM.....
I didn't get out tonight for my run... bit bummed but never mind. It was my turn to do a duty at Brownies and we went out for a nature walk... so i can say i had some exercise... i had planned on going out for my run afterwards but didn't get as Big G waited for me to come home and make his tea... charming!
never mind, will get to the gym tomorrow after work as Erin has a swimming lesson, and i usually get a wee cheeky gym sesison in while she's in class.... haven't been for a couple of weeks due to school hols so looking forward to it..!I'm just a seething mass of contradictions....(it's part of my charm!)0 -
Morning all you guys! Duncan... thank you for the advice i will take it to heart! I am a fair bit heavier than you are (and very aware that weightloss will help my knees and back no end
) But am not sure running would be the right move... for now. Maybe i will have it as a reward
sounds odd i know! I used to run at 15stone so maybe when i get there i will start with the program! this sounds like a good plan to me.
I know i have been picking these last few weeks and am glad to know i am not the only one, it has inspired me to keep going. Thanks Maz, keep going Welsh! Also the fact that the woman who is altering my dress just told me it doesnt go up as much as she thought so i need three inches off in two weeks. Thats doable right?
You know i recon we should have a skinny bods reuniounIf you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0 -

morning all.
I was feeling soooooo sorry for myself yesterday! Back to feeling good today though. Hope you all have a fantastic day.If dogs don't go to heaven, then I want to go where they go. :A0 -
Good Morning Everyone,
Oh I could not get my eyes open this morning and slept like a log!!
I have to go to London on Friday for work, which may involve having to eat, so have made a promise to myself to be soooo good for the next three days. So Caz I am with you "Good Day" no totally stupidly daft nibbles.
Day 2 of the running program is a rest day, so I think I will be able to manage that one!! Thanks for the advce Maz and the inspiration, I do feel much better for doing it, although Duncans walk was definitely slower than usual for the first half although I got better about half way through.
Having a Strawberry Silk for breakfast, its not as nice as the cholocate but good for a change.
I am glad you are feeling better today Welshy, its really tough to stay on track when you feel lousy.
Alpha, its really hard to do excercise of any kind, when you are sore and heavy, everything feels twice as hard. My hips give me terrible pain, unfortunately I have been sooo lazy over the last 10 years that it has just steadily got worse. I think when I got diagnosed I just sort of gave up, and the consultant was really sh**y, very dismissive and just kept telling me to take more painkillers. I don't like taking painkillers unless I really need to.
I think hitting 40 has stopped me in my tracks a bit, (I'm not bothered about getting older, just want to be able to live a bit longer and be a lot fitter, instead of hobbling about when my back and hips are sore)
We will see, I am in my 4th week of the new me, its probably the furthest I have managed to get without caving in completely and I feel like I can keep going.
This forum really does make a difference.
Thank you everyone........0 -

being good today too and about to have a porridge! (need to fit into dress eeek)If you dont know where you are going... Any road will take you there :rotfl:0 -
Morning
I'm tempted to go out and treat myself to a treadmill. For me, the self consciousness stops me going out running etc so I think being able to do it indoors would help.
Not very MSE is itIs it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches :think:Loves being a Wonderbra friend :kisses3:
