I started the Cambridge diet yesterday and stuck to it, only drinking water and rooibosh tea with lemon. One of the soups I bought I discovered was a week out of date but I didn't think it would matter so I drank it last night. About an hour later I had diarrhoea which also affected me during the night. I am lactose intolerant and have bought some of the lactose free drinks ( my counsellor didn't have many ) but I take lactase tablets which mean I can absorb the lactose and should be ok. Has anyone else found this kind of problem? I also have a headache this morning even though I drank plenty of water. I can't get in touch with my counsellor until this evening - any advice please?

gosh! was the soup that was out of date from your counseller??? i would have a word with them about that?!

The products have pretty long shelf lives so i wouldn't expect anything to go near out of date! serious issue there, regardless of whether it is what made you poorly...

i can't advise on the lactose thingy, you will need to discuss with your CDC and see what works for you... That is, if you have much faith in him/her now!

  • Yes, Maz, I bought all the meals from my local counsellor on Monday. I did wonder at the time, she didn't have a green weight card, or a booklet about the diet or many lactose free meals and then I found the out of date soup.............

I had looked through all the local people on the CD website and picked another person, but when I went to her house to meet her she'd had an accident and had to go into hospital so I just picked another who was the nearest. None of my local people's profiles particularly appeal to me hence choosing the closest.

Still one porridge and one spicy tomato soup later I'm ok. The meals are fairly revolting though. I'll try a shake tonight and ring the counsellor later to see if she can shape up for next week.

  • Hi Guys,

I'm nearly through my third day and am feeling quite good! (however that might change in a bit as my son has requested steak and chips for tea and expects me to cook it for him....talk about torture)
Something I would like to know from any of you very successful dieters is have you experienced really saggy skin from doing a VLCD as the experts say this is a major problem with such quick weight loss?
  • No saggy skin here! It may come though, depends on how much you lose i suppose. Exercise is the key though to tense it all up.

cooking for the family is one of the hardest things i find! re the saggy skin thing, i don't think anyone here is really at that stage yet, so we've no first hand experience....i know i say this a lot, and i have no vested interest, but i found www.minimins.com to be a great site for finding out CD stuff....

    Hows everyone doing today?

Im now onto day 4. Managing ok, I think, have stuck to it religiously, well maybe not so with the water, drinking closer to 2 litres a day than 4. I don't 'feel' and thinner, usually If I cut right down for a few days I feel my belly shrinking, I havent noticed that with CD. Im hoping I have a weightloss on Saturday, I'll only have been doing in 5 days when I get weighed, but my CDC said I should still see a loss.
    Fantastic Expectations Amazing Revelations
  • Feeling fine and thinner but I'm sure I don't look it. I do find the meals unappetising, just had porridge - cinnamon and apple. Another whole day of cooking ahead - I cook for a living. I shan't tell you what delicious things I make!
And cooking for my family is difficult too. Haven't missed the nightly glass of wine though!
I have to take this a day at a time, I've never been able to diet before - I sabotage myself. Been fine for the last two days though. No promises here, just plod along a day at a time. Have about 4.5 stones to lose. Glad of all the support and information on this site and others.:o
  • Hi All

Like you I to am in to day 4 but i'm afraid I gave in to temptation last night and had a small pack of wafer thin ham....I couldn't stop myself - I shouldn't have cooked my son his tea whilst I was so hungry, mind you at least it wasn't crisps, chocolate or biscuits!! However having weighed myself Monday morning on my electronic scales and then again this morning my scales are telling me I have already lost 8.5 lbs, I do hope so! I do have 5and half stone to lose though so maybe as I have so much to lose thats why it sounds so impressive!
Anyway onwards and upwards I'm going to be really good today x x
  • hey churchmouse/caroline -

please don't beat yourself up about a wee cheat Caroline, it was ham... which is a protein and probably zero carbs so won't have done much harm if any... plus in the first week you are assured good losses so it won't show on the scales!!

Churchmouse, i hate having to cook for the family, let alone do it for a living! how torturous!!

One day at a time is key, i have about the same to lose as you guys.. my target is 12 stone but upon reflection i know i need to lose another 1.5 on top of that... so i'm still about 4 stone to go too...

we will get thru this together! skinny minnies by the summer!!
