For me the motivation came as soon as the weight started to fall off and my clothes started to fall off me too!

I bought a skirt a couple of weeks ago which would not do up at all. Couldn't even bring the zip together to attempt to fasten in. I tried it on last night and it now fits perfectly.

For me that is what has kept me going for coming up a year of being on Cambridge.

    The results are just fabulous.

I went to a Challenge Arthritis course yesterday run by Arthritis Care UK. We have to set goals for ourselves each week and one lady decided she was going to try drinking 5 glasses of water a day. They went round the group asking how much water everyone drank (it is important for arthritis as it helps combat the pain). When it got to me and my 5L per day they were aghast!! The person wanting to drink 5 glasses of water per day then said "well I think you have an addiction to water and you are drinking far too much".

It then went on to my mentioning the Cambridge Diet as it is important for them to keep as low a weight to the BMI of 25 as possible and I had a few of them wanting to know all about the diet afterwards. I should become a recruiting officer for Cambridge!!

  • For the lowest plan, the CDC will just inform the dr. It's not asking permission, and you don't have to see him/her. For the other plans, no doctor involvement...BUT

If you are on any prescribed medication, or are BMI 40+, you have to get the doctor to sign to say that nothing is contraindicated.

A little confused with above, can I have some help re following please :

What is the lowest plan? So if my BMI is about 35 but am on blood pressure and water tablets do I have to make appt to see doctor or can form just be dropped in for doctor to sign?

Don't like going to doctors unless I absolutely have to!

    thanks

The lowest plan is Sole Source.

It is better to take your form with other paperwork from the CDC to present to your GP. Also they may make a charge for doing this.

If you are on any medication you HAVE to have your medical form signed, regardless of your BMI so unfortunately there is no getting around it.

I think you are allowed to do the 1200 Plan which would give a slow loss compared with the others, so it is better to bite the bullet and go and see your GP.

    Good luck

I did it, hated it, but lost weight.
I got to my goal, stopped and put it all back on again.
Waste of money and effort. I needed to reeducate my eating habits not buy c##p like that.
Hi there, I am new to this website but read your message and am seriously contemplating starting the CD soon as not tried it before, although I cannot afford it and have to cook for others at home so worried about the whole thing. My willpower is not good either... Tried every diet under the sun over last 30 years and still weigh 15 stone with BMI of 35 so need to lose around 4 stone. 2 friends of mine became very ill whilst doing the CD plan/Lighter Life and told me not to even try it once.... but I feel so fat and horrible I need to do something. My GP is on the CD and recommends it, believe it or not!!! I try diet classes and like Slimming World best, but tempted to try WW for something different. Any advice would be appreciated..... thanks a lot

Hi there, you seem to know a lot about this CD - I want some advice as not tried it before and my GP is on it and recommended it to me. I have BMI of 35 and need to lose 4 stone, but conventional diet classes keep failing as I get bored and cant stick to them for long. My GP will sign my form for free he said so that bit is OK, but I am not sure I could stick to this plan for long, and friends of mine were very ill when they did it and one of them has had serious medical complications from doing the CD so its a bit worrying.
Any advice you can give would be appreciated, and how much have you lost? I think I would need a good Counsellor to help me, one that I like...

There are thousands and thousands of people whom have done/are doing both Cambridge and LL with no problems at all.

It is not usual for people to become ill with Cambridge.

Do give CD a go - what have you got to lose but weight?

    See the message above.

I have lost almost 11 stones on Cambridge so far.

We all start out with the thoughts that we don't know whether we can stick to CD, or wonder if we can follow it at all - that is quite a common worry. The new programme of SS+ with food allowance are proving to be popular as you have three meal replacements plus a small meal. SS is limiting if you go out a lot. Whereas with SS+ and now the new 810 programme you can eat out and have a salad at least.

I started on Sole Source. Have done 790, SS+ with food, SS+ with milk and 1000 Plan. Now on 790 again.

I cannot understand how anyone could have 'serious medical complications' from using Cambridge since it is total nutrition. Are you sure that the medical complications wouldn't have occurred anyway? Just a coincidence perhaps?

I have to have a blood test every four weeks as I have RA and take toxic medication. My blood tests have remained perfect throughout 11 months of Cambridge.

My Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons x 2, my GP x 2 plus my Rheumatologist think that my weight loss is fabulous and are recommending the diet to others whom have been struggling to lose weight.

Ring round a few CDC's and have a chat with some of them, you do need to gel with them, that is true.

Do give it a go, Cambridge is wonderful

Dear Cute N Quirky - your message has inspired me to try the CD. You have achieved wonderful results and you must feel so much better in yourself for losing that weight. Can your RA be cured from your weight loss? Of course, when I mention this diet to people, there is always someone who has a horror story about it, and maybe the people who became ill had medical problems already, like you say. My GP really inspired me, as I was amazed he recommends these VLCDs. Did you ever try SW or WW or the other clubs? I have done them all, lost a bit of weight, put it on and it goes on..... but I have always been told that to lose weight slowly 1-2 lbs a week is better than quickly, but I am 50 now and need to do something fast!

I dont yet understand all the CD plans you mention like 790, 1000 but am sure the Counsellor will explain them to me. I need to lose 4 or 5 stone to get to a healthy weight and am really determined to try this and prove to my doctor that I can do it.... I have high BP and maybe if I lose some weight it will come down again.

I have phoned 3 local counsellors in my area and am disappointed that they seem to charge whatever they like for the same thing - one quoted £34 a week, one quoted £36 and one said £38 a week for the sole source packs... I have spoken to the one I liked best a couple of times (most expensive by the way) and will visit her as she lives around the corner from me. I am doing a Race for Life walk on 20th July so wont start the CD until after that date and I have to cook for my son and partner so am very worried about having to cook, smell and see other people eating food. My willpower is not good at all!! and I love chocolate, but I am determined not to have any whilst doing the CD.

Thanks for your help - you are an inspiration!
  • Thanks again for your inspiration - you are right! What have I got to lose but weight! We all make far too many excuses why we cant lose weight - its 2008 - this is the year I will lose weight!!
