    Hi Fortune Smiles,

Lovely to hear from you... how exciting - a wedding! matching hat and shoes... I think it was back in the 90s since I was able to wear both...I need a wedding to go too as I love getting dressed up for occasions :)

Enjoy your shopping and hopefully you will pick up a bargain :)

Hi there! You're doing well :) and you've got your own DS's wedding to go for? Enjoy! I really noticed when my nephew got married recently, that the groom's mother has to look good but doesn't have anything like the same level of control over things as the bride's mother. No matter how much you know something, when you see it close up, its quite something  still lovely though :)

Looks like I came back to my diary just in time...
    • friend's turn to drive this time so I only had a short trip to get to our usual meet up place :)
    • started with coffee and cake in J0hn L£wis. Thought I had a voucher for mine but it was out of date :(
    • found a fabulous pair of shoes for the wedding. In the sale - 60% off :D
    • they didn't have my size though so I've had to order them and pay for postage :(
    • stopped for lunch at the posh Italian rather than the pizza place where I could have used my Ta$t£card :(
    • bought the perfect hat for the wedding and well below budget :D
    • found some ribbon in the sale to customise the hat :) Got home to find it was the wrong colour :(
    • was seduced by some wool in the sale - not planned but I do need some for a new knitting club project so would have had to buy at some time :p
    • bought two necklaces and a pair of earrings in the sale to accessorise wedding outfit. Nothing works :(
    • so full from lunch I didn't need any supper :)
Overall I spent far less than I thought I'd need to but about £40 more than I could have  I'll donate the ribbon to a seamstress friend and I bought the necklaces on the basis that I would wear them anyway if they didn't work for the wedding. It's just I don't really need them. One may make a good birthday or Christmas present. It's such a long way back to the shop it's not worth returning them.

I had a lovely day out but £40 is a lot of money to spend thoughtlessly. I have obviously fallen into bad habits in my time away.

I fed the change jar and Tilly Tidied to the savings account. Now that we have the wedding contribution and our emergency savings up to par I think I'll start Tilly Tidying to the mortgage again.

I have an exciting day of housework ahead of me today so I'd better get started.

    Have a good day all.

Lovely to 'see' you Karma. You're so right. We have had very little involvement in the arrangements and are even finding it hard to hand over our financial contribution (not sure why I'm complaining about that though). We're a long way from the venue so partly it's logistics and I really don't mind at all - we'll be able to just turn up and enjoy the day without the stress.

  • It sounds like you had a lovely day out .. didnt quite go to plan I know but you did get your hat and shoes which were the main items you wanted :j

So what colour have you decided to wear?

Have you seen the film 'monster in law' with Jane Fonda? Now I'm not suggesting you are the monster in law at all Fortune Smiles - I'm sure you have a lovely relationship with future daughter in law :rotfl: But its such a funny film and Jane Fonda reminds me of my mother in law!! I always think of this film when I hear of a wedding :rotfl:

It will be my silver wedding anniversary next year... I cant quite believe we are still together :rotfl:

    Best wishes x

I've always quite enjoyed the 'wicked stepmother' role Tcal :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Silver! Well done. I think you get a nice prezzie for that one. I got bronze for 8 years this year.

I've had a couple of Loaf days to make up for my overspending:
    • caught up on some housework - nothing like the imminent arrival of house guests for motivation
    • slayed the monster ironing pile
    • ordered some necklaces, one of which I am hoping will work with the wedding outfit. If not they can all be sent back this time :o
    • started a project with my new wool
    • a few hours work this morning plus I picked up some extra dates
    • wedding shoes arrived :j Very special but I've yet to try them on
    • other shoes arrived :j Might have forgotten to mention those :o A bargain £bay purchase and a style I've been searching for. Not tried those on yet either though
    • bought some replacement wine glasses on £bay. I love my wine glasses. They weren't expensive at all but you can't get them now and they break easily. If I see them on £bay I always pick them up.
    • on-line shop done - over budget this week but expected because we have guests this weekend
    • Bacon & Mushroom Pasta for supper
    • and I've saved the best news for last - we have paid off 75% of our mortgage and are now in the 40's:j
A Lily day tomorrow - out with a friend at a country fair. I've set aside a little of the budget in the hope that I can start my Christmas shopping.... yeah I went there... I said the 'C' word.

    Hope your week's going well

I had a lovely day out yesterday with a friend:
    • my turn to drive
    • £4.00 entry fee
    • filled the truck up with fuel - came in £8.00 under budget
    • friend bought me coffee and cake for driving
    • a sandwich lunch
    • picked up a couple of Christmas gifts (don't hate me)
    • bought a bowl from one of my favourite local artists. Not a necessity of course but I really love it and will get so much pleasure from it.
I have started to send my ad-hoc savings to the mortgage account again so have Tilly Tidied and transferred TCB earnings and remaining fuel budget this morning.

I re-gifted an item this week :o so a little MS there but I also gave away my new Geisha painting to a friend who admired it. She's a very good friend and I couldn't bring myself to sell it to her - didn't seem right. My tax return for my little art business is going to start looking interesting if I keep giving things away though :rotfl:

Bathroom cleaning is on the cards for today - oh joy!

It's Friday people! Enjoy the start to the weekend.
