wow, what a flurry of activity we've had overnight :D

Massive congrats to alamaya and izzydogsam :j enjoy your family time :D

welcome along queenB. Moneypenny is absolutely right, time flies sooo quickly once you're past the 24 week mark. I can't believe I'm 36 weeks, never thought I'd get here. I'm getting a new cooker delivered on Saturday but I'm happy for baby to make an appearance any time after that :D

Thinking of you taadaa, hope all is going well.

Hooray for term & home birth Savage!

Monneypenny, yes I'm knitting a snuggly papoose blanket atm, but I've also made some 0-3m cardies and another blanket :) not as much as I would have liked to tbh, as it was too hard to concentrate for months! Got the wool for 3 3-6month cardies, but I doubt I'll get them done now, unless baby is very late!

Eventually went back to bed at 5.30, and just got up now. DH has gone to work despite waking up with no voice and feeling really poorly :(

Off to meet up with my NCT ladies in a bit, and meet the first baby of the group!

Until you get to your due date and go overdue then it goes as slow as possible.

Hi ladies :j Sorry it's taken so long to get on!

So, Kai Thomas Harry arrived on Sunday 28th October at 9.47pm.

I went in for my induction at 10am as planned and got to see the Sister on the ward who had been helping me through all my monitoring and spoke to her about my nerves and she said everything will all be fine, in a weird way i'm so happy I had to go up to the hospital for those few weeks for monitoring because I got to know a lot of the people that were involved in his delivery and made me feel so much more comfortable.

So, we got taken straight to our delivery room which was huge with its own en suite (God knows why but I was worrying I wouldn't have a toilet near :rotfl:) Found out that my midwife was another lady who had been helping with monitoring which also made me feel another 10x better! Got hooked up to the fetal monitor and then had my oxytocin (sp?) hooked up. After 2 failed attempts on my right arm :o finally got it inserted into my left hand and started the drug at 1ml, midwife explained she would turn it up every 1/2 hour by 1ml until I get into proper established labour.

Midwife examined me, and said she thought not all my waters had broken, so tried breaking the second lot but turns out they had all gone, little bit pointless but at least she was trying :o. From 10-2 was having mild contractions and breathing through them and still managing to conversate between them, lol. Don't know how but ended up on 20ml by about 3pm and was really feeling the contractions, it was all in my back so were trying to find a position comfortable enough for me but wasn't getting anywhere, this was one of my worries about induction, that I would be pretty immobile, I think if I could have moved around a bit, even been able to get on all fours I wouldnt have felt the back pain so much.

Kept needing to go to the toilet as well as my waters were still leaking and kept having little gushes, that was all a palava as had to unplug the monitor and pull my drip with me which started beeping every 5 minutes  All whilst having about 3-4 contractions getting off the bed, sitting on the toilet, getting on the bed lol.

Decided to try some gas and air to see if that would take the edge off the contractions, managed to ask the midwife what I could expect it to do, she said she didn't think it would do much for me as I was still breathing well through the contractions but to give it a try. Needless to say it did nothing for me, it made me feel really, really dizzy and sick. I kept trying with it but it just wasn't doing anything, I kept pulling it the mouthpiece out from biting it too hard so was getting frustrated with that then for some weird reason my voice completely changed, I was trying to tell hubby it wasn't working but my voice was coming out SO low nobody could make out what I was saying, like a slowed down tape :rotfl:.

Carried on contracting, then about 8pm they had to change shifts and as soon as my midwife had left and I had my new one everything really started and I turnt into the patient from Hell! I said to the new midwife as soon as she arrive that I was ready for an epidural. I was 6cm dilated just before my first midwife had left so was pretty sure we still had time. New midwife kept asking if I was definately sure I wanted the epidural as I had "done so well so far" but I was 100% sure, she went out to speak to the anaesthetist, came back and said they were having their change over  and that she would try and prep me for it, she gave me a tablet to take to stop my tummy getting too acidic and started explaining the procedure when I had the biggest urge to poo, I told her I had to go to the toilet and her whole face changed, she asked if I needed a poo and I said yes and she said, right we'll get you to the toilet then I will examine you.

Managed to get to the toilet with hubby holding me up and still dragging my wires with me, midwife wouldnt let me shut the door so had hubby watching and her watching me on the toilet :D He has never, ever seen me on the toilet, perfect timing! Midwife was trying to get me back to the bed before I contracted again because I really was getting the worst pressure and having to push rather then being able to just breathe through it, managed to get back to the bed and had another contraction before I could get comfortable again, sorted myself out, got all the wires back into place and midwife asked if it was ok to examine me.

TMI coming up i'm afraid ladies! - As soon as her hands were there I felt like I had to push them out, the gas and air got thrown across the room and I literally turnt into the girl from the Exorcist! I could NOT stop the noises coming out of me, she told me I needed to calm down and listen, that I was 9.5cm dilated and didn't have time for the epidural, next time I felt a contraction I had to push 3 times. This was about 8.15pm, everytime I was contracting now I was pushing, I could feel Kai coming down and sort of coming out :o but each time the contraction went and I had to breathe he popped back in.

Midwife had to put a clip on his head as monitor wasn't picking his heartrate up and to be honest I don't think I was sitting still enough for her to even try and get a reading.

After that something just came over me, I knew there was no other way to get round it and I was NOT having forceps or ventouse so I told myself on the next push, this babies head was coming out wether I liked it or not, I managed to get his head out, midwife was telling me to pant and slow it down but I have no other words apart from "Ring Of Fire" I had to get the baby out, I carried on pushing and from what hubby's told me I rolled Kai across the bed  as midwife had turned her back for a second and he was out! It was the biggest relief ever, the most amazing feeling. We had skin to skin straight away, all along my pregnancy I was certain I wanted him cleaned first but I remember wishing and wishing she would just hurry up and chuck him on my chest which she did :D had a struggle undoing my hospital gown and had to just cut it because midwife wanted him on me asap :)

Kai's cord was really really short so hubby had to be really careful cutting it but he was still able to do it :D Had lovely mummy cuddles whilst I had the injection and delivered the placenta, midwife then had to examine me for any tears, I luckily had no problems with my perineum but managed 2 tears on the outside and 1 on the inside, so had to lay through being stitched up, daddy had a cuddle and then another midwife popped in to weigh him. 8 Pounds 12 ounces, our little fatso, bear in mind he was 2 weeks early :T

She cleaned him up and wrapped him up for us, popped on his ankle tags and then went and got me some toast (your best meal ever!) Midwife then cleaned me up a little bit and we started discussing breast feeding, Kai didn't seem hungry at all but she was showing me exactly how to position him. We kept trying but I didn't really feel it was working for us and Kai was too busy checking out his new surroundings to be fussed by mummy's boob anyway...

I jumped in the shower and felt a million times better, my tummy felt reeeeeeeeeally strange though and I was a little bit wobbly but I guess that's what laying down for near on 12 hours does to you! Sorted out our bags and put Kai in his little crib and went down to the labour ward, hubby had to go home as wasn't allowed to stay and one of the labour ward midwives came round to do Kai's observations. He was fast asleep so I put some money on the TV and watched I Love You, Man :rotfl:

The nursery nurse came round and told me off for not sleeping, but to be honest I really wasn't tired, managed to get about 1/2 hours sleep then another midwife came round for more obs and to ask about feeding, had a to and fro about breast or bottle because my notes said I wanted to breast feed but I explained I wanted to bottle feed as I didn't want to stress him out trying to force him on my boob if it just wasn't working so finally got what I wanted (as if it should be that hard ) and tried feeding him, he took about 30ml but that was it and just carried on sleeping!

I then got some more sleep, daddy came back about 10am and we were discharged by 4!

Mammoth post!!! But ladies, honestly I was the most terrified of birth, it was my biggest, biggest fear and if I can do it, ANYBODY can. The day after I was saying how I was never to do it again but now a week later I am contemplating Kai's little brother or sister in the next few years!

I had a couple of days of baby blues, worrying about his future, worrying about money, worrying about him being happy, but do you know what, as soon as you get a cuddle with your bubba everything else goes out the window, he is my new bestest friend and he can scream in my ear at 3am for food as much as he wants, I can't wait to see him grow up. I was also really upset as I really miss his little kicks in my tummy and how empty I felt, then when my milk came in I got really upset as I felt like I had failed him as I probably could have breast fed him, but at the time I wanted to do best for him and not stressing him out by struggling was what I believe was right. You wont feel like yourself for a while afterwards, you'll be a hormonal, bleeding, leaking mess but once again, bubba will cheer you up no end!

Im so sorry this is such a huge post! But had to get it all out, hope you're all good ladies, i'm definately going to hang around a little bit, can't wait to hear from Cake and her beautiful girlies!!

Birth is the most amazing thing, and with next to no pain relief like I said before, if I can do it ANYBODY can! xxxa
