I'm under a consultant as we had fertility treatment but have never met her! Just means I hope for extra scans them have to wait for an hour or two to see a dr who tells us the measurements are fine (as we were told by the sonographer).

Means I get to see my baby more times though so no complaints :)

Also see a new midwife nearly every time. There are a couple I've seen twice I think.

As for bodies etc we are still intimate (to a limited degree!) etc but it's weird how my OH now sees my boobs as being for the baby. Just got a nursing bra and had always thought he'd love the easy access lol. I'm hoping they can be sexy again whilst I'm still breastfeeding.
Proud to be a moneysaver!

Moneypenny, thanks for the heads up, it is worth buying at that price!! I had already bought a Medela Swing, also with the Calma teat/bottle, but I second moneypenny's post and say that if you are thinking of getting a breastpump, this one has amazing reviews, it is the one recommended in my breastfeeding leaflet from the NHS and at £70 with the Amazon voucher is a bargain, minimum I have seen it new was :£99 at the NCT and £120 in shops.

I have a consultant, I think it is standard here. I saw her twice so far, but missed a third appointment and I have a new appointment next week. Not much different from going to the midwife for me, because I have a very normal pregnancy. I am first seen by one midwife, then the consultant comes and asks questions.
had blood tests done, the rest was similar to what I do with the midwife. It depends of your situation, but if you are told to go, do not worry, it can be like my case and it is just general procedure in your area. They will let you know if anything needs to be looked at.

I had my whooping cough vaccine yesterday, so far so good, I have nit had any reaction. The nurse also had the flu one but I chickened out of it, too many needles in a day. I might go back this week and get it, she said the virus spreads about November, so I should not leave it for long.

  • Bamama- your uine sample should always be "created" as close to your appointments as possible, I found out the hard way after being lectured by a midwife as I had ketones in my sample at like 2pm, so i got the "you are not eating enough" chat whem really i had been stuffing my face all day but done my wee pot at like 9am as soon as i woke up! I understand why you would think FMU from the days of our long awaited BFPs :D x

Bamama - agree with Cherrydrop. I usually bring a sample from just before the appointment. Midwife is usually at 2pm for me so have to bring my little pot into work - how lovely! Hee hee!

I'll third the Medela Swing recommendation. I had one with DS. I could manual pump about 2oz in 5 mins but could get about 8oz in 15 mins on the electric - twas brilliant! Just going to get replacement parts for it for this time. I would recommend having spare filters (the little white disc parts) as a loss of suction for me or milk in the tubing meant there was a tear in the disc which was annoying if I needed to pump and didn't have any! I learnt to keep a spare in the house!

Marta - I've had the flu jab. Funny reaction on my arm but was told lots of people get it. Went away in a couple of days and didn't bother me too much. I've to get the whooping cough one in 3 weeks time.

Oh :S Well when I've forgotten to pick up a bottle to take home... and offered to do a sample there and then when I haven't got a one to give them, they just tell me "No it's ok. Bring one next time."

Surely they'd rather test me than not? So why won't they let me pee when I have to? :(

Don't worry yourself about it! Just ask them for a bottle as soon as you go in and nip to the loos! I've done that in the surgery/hospital many times! In fact if I go in without one due to lack of bottle I get asked to provide one anyway. Very easy to do these days. I should think they'd want to check it but there seems to be a vast difference in the care we all receive!

morning ladies. how are you all?

lady m, nice to see you on here. hope you are ok and feel better soon regarding te discharge. glad your consultant has agreed to stuff as well.

regarding pee sample, i have s pare pot that i get each time i go to the doc and before an appointment, i fill it up from home and take it with me. lol. i have also asked for a pot there and weed into it. :) niiice. good luck to the boldies as well. xxx

AFM, we had our NCT class yesterdar about BF. It was great actually and even though we could have covered more, we only had 2 hours, but it went well. lots of info and we all asked lots of different questions. basically the woman advised that we should wait to get a breast pump as we dont know yet how we will end up feeding. she did say once we get to that stage the electric one is def better and less painful as with the hand one you are there for ages. she said also some people thinkabout not expressing unless they want to go out and then in that case get the manual one. it was quite nice.

on the way there and back however, dh was having a go at me, regarding the situation with my friend from Aus and also said i was so moody and ALWAYS tired and moaning about being tired.:( i got so upset about it. i know he is tired too as he cant sleep when i am in and out of the loo but he doesnt talk to me about how he is feeling so i assume he is sleeping away and doesnt care. :( then when we got home, i just asked him if he wants me to leave him as i cant take it. we are not intimate and we just keep getting our wires crossed up. he said he didnt want that. in the car he was horrid and said he doesnt want sex with me because i am driving him insane. :( i was ready to leave yesterday.:( then i got worried that because i was strssed, the baby would pick that up.:(

They always turn down my offer of fresh stuff. Maybe my midwives have a fear of warm pee!? Lol. I may not have a consultant due to the fact that my local hospital only has a birth centre and not a maternity ward (so no docs just midwives) and I haven't had any complications.
  • Yeah, I wouldn't panic Bamama- when I went for my booking in my midwife wanted 2 samples and I was like  I find it impossible to wee on cue and I definately cannot aim it all in that little thing!! I need a funnel, a quiet place and relaxing music :rotfl:I tried but it was all a bit pointless so she just asked me to bring one in next time. Normally they give me back my bottle after dipping it as well so I don't have to keep asking (bit gross I know but that's the South for you!! :p)
