good luck misskeith. rest loads hon and allow work. when do you leave anyway?

Thanks, I will do. I was hoping to work right up to the 8th December and I'm due on the 21st but I booked two weeks leave before I go on official maternity leave. Not too sure what will happen if I go much earlier than that! I'll probably call my boss tomorrow and check with her.
Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug). ;)

i am similar to you. i am due on the 24th and had planned my ML on the 7th of Dec and have 6 days holidays, so they are going at the front so hopefully by beg of December.

thing is i am having this pain, which i have spoken of before on here and before GPs etc have said stretching but today its weird and i have been asked to ring the labour ward after an hour (well 35 mins now) and if its still there to go in as they want to check i am not contracting. so am bit nervous but rather go and look stupid and sent back home than sit at home and contracting u know?

For now I'd just get the docs to sign you off and take it a week at a time - work will automatically start ML 4 weeks before due date if you're still signed off, bit you could potentially go back for a bit before then if you do feel up to it :)

Been to MK shopping this afternoon and got some feeding bras fitted at Bravissimo. Such a big difference to the ones I got in Mothercare, even though the size was actually similar - the shape is so different, really designed for bigger boobs. Would recommend it to anyone with larger cup sizes. Returned the other bras and got a mobile for Beanie's room and a birthday pressie for my nephew, so quite a successful trip.

Nearly didn't get out of the house though as there was a giant spider lurking in the hall which refused to go out of the door  tried to shoo it out with a variety of implements before I gave up and hoovered it instead :o feel guilty now, but it was too big to get a pint glass over

It's pretty standard once you're into your third trimester to see if any new pain is a contraction, Rups.

    What's the pain like?

Pethidine can make babies a bit too drowsy to feed straightaway but try to bear in mind that even if your baby doesn't manage to feed in that first magic hour, that doesn't mean they won't successfully latch to the breast a little later on that day. Sections also make babies drowsy and full of mucus (it gets squeezed out during a normal birth but stays in their tums if you have a section meaning they sometimes feel too full to feed).

There's much made of babies being put to the breast within an hour of birth and women panic and worry that their baby won't feed well if this opportunity is missed. It's nonsense - you can still have a great BFing experience and no problems at all even if you have pethidine or a section. At the end of the day it's about balancing what's best for you (and your baby) during labour with any possible drowsiness your baby might experience in the first few hours of life. Your midwife will be well trained to make that call for you. Try not to worry.

My eldest niece was incredibly sleepy and wouldn't wake to feed for the first 36 hours, and my sister only had gas and air. She got feeding established with mo real problems after those first days though, and continued until she returned to work.

Hope they set your mind at rest, Rups.

I had to come home from work early today as I feel just dreadful. I think my body is telling me to stop now as I seem to be incapable of doing anything.

This is a pretty good price for a cot. Works out at £45 with free delivery if you use code FL3A. Comes in antique pine or dark wood for this price. Was £100.

Thanks fluff and Moog. Just take it as it comes ini? (And here's me thinking I was being so unorganized!)

My little one keeps stretching outwards. So annoying! I've been struggling to get comfortable driving too. Don't know what I'll do when it starts getting bigger!

LittleMoog - that's good advice about Bravissimo. I may head there. DH and I are plannig to attack John Lewis on Saturday and clear out the baby section! Last time I wondered through there there was this great couple - totally overprepared woman with lists overpowering the sales chap about benefits of different prams - her DP standing by looking as bored as I've ever seen a man. Walked past again a few minutes later and the sales man and her DP were like little boys with farm toys discussing the engineering benefits of each pram - woman looking so red in the face I thought she might explode!

Anway, 24+6 for me today and time seems to be dragging a bit.

After some advice from you guys. I'm not sure where to post this but I hoped from the wealth of experience you guys have in all things pregnancy related there'd be someone! My Best Friend called me a few nights ago and said she'd had a miscarriage (married this year, first mc). She's the kind of friend who keeps a lot of stuff to herself and I knew she was going to have problems due to unamed gynae reasons (she's only spoken in general terms before.) Anyway, she's coming to stay next weekend. I straight away said if she didn't want to see me I'd totally understand and we could meet up another time. (we live quite a long way away). She's adamant she wants to come as she wants to be happy for me which is just lovely of her - not sure I could be that nice having just gone through a crappy mc to go and see good friend with v clear bump. Anway, my question was going to be what should I do/say/avoid? But having just written it down I think I know my own answer - I be the friend I always have and always will.

Sorry for the long post, felt it helpful to write down to be honest.
