Sorry to hear that you've had so many nasty symptoms during your pregnancy ikkle - I think you've done really well not to moan about them until this point, as I had no idea and can completely see why you'd want it all over with ASAP. I think it's really rubbish (putting it nicely) that you aren't able to get an appointment considering your other health problems and their initial prognosis for the pregnancy. I can sort of relate to the inconsistency of people seeing you as I have seen 3 different midwives over the course of my pregnancy now (no idea if it'll be a 4th on Monday as don't actually know who does the clinics in the surestart centre). My initial booking in midwife didn't see me again until my 28 week appointment as she was always on blooming holiday! Are you able to see someone at your maternity assessment unit at your hospital? I think this is what we can do if we can't get an appointment at our surgeries etc here.

Hugs SamW. I was feeling this way on Monday. Try to find something to keep yourself occupied, or treat yourself to something. Is your DH/OH home? Could you go to the cinema or something or go on a "last date as a couple rather than as a Mum and Dad"? Sorry I'm assuming this is your first baby.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

No point moaning about it SM, it's 9 months of my life and the reward at the end is amazing. Plus I know just how lucky I am to be pregnant and have got this far. There are lots of people who never get that.

Hugs to you SamW aren't we an impatient lot on here lol x

  • MummyofTwo bigs hugs to you, I do know how you feel! I lost the plot with silly texts and phone calls too, can;t believe how many people actually send the message "Anything happening yet?" or "Is baby here?" I know they are just excited but it really does wind you up when you are overdue! I'm afraid I have made a point of ignoring those texts and since I snapped at my Mum on the phone the other day she has left me to it! Mind you, that is just as well cos she has been on at me to go and visit my nan (we don't get on and I haven'tseen her at all this year- very long story) and then she said my sister called the other week and that I should give her a call too. Err, my sister has fingers that work and she is morethan capable of calling me if she wants to find out how I am doing or just generally chat. Even now, in my 30's,my mum still expects me to make the effort with my sister! I wouldn't mind but my sis is 5 years older than me! Sorry, off on a tangent again, lol!

Sexymouse I originally thought that I would refuse to have a sweep and an induction cos I really did want things to happen naturally and I am well aware of all the things that are more likely to happen with an induction etc. My main concern is that of pain relief as I really don't want pethidin as I don't want baby to be all sluggish and sleepy when he finally does make an appearance! However,I was so miserable last week and so up and down that when my midwife gave me my induction date I actually did feel relieved and the past fewdays have been more bearable as a result! Of course, I have still been hoping that baby will decide to get a move on before Monday morning, but here we are at Sat night and still no sign. So, I have resigned myself to the induction on Monday and what will be will be. On a plus side,it would belovely if LO did come on Monday as my best mates little girl is 4 years old that day!

Had delivery from Asda earlier (I bought loads!) and have already made spinach soup to put in the freezer and have cooked a bulk load of mince to make lasagne with which I am about to go and put together now! The freezer is already pretty full, but I feel better for knowing that we have a few bits and pieces that we can just heat up or stick in the oven next week! OH is also happy now cos he finished work for four weeks yesterday; his Dad has also had a chat with him apparently and told him that when baby comes along he has to make sure that me and baby are ok first and foremost and nothing else matters! Thought that was quite good of him!

Well, one day to go - let's see if baby might decide to start things off on his own after all!

    hugs to all! x

I think my belly is growing tonight, it has been hurting the whole day, as if the muscles were being stretched or as if a balloon were being inflated inside! Does it stop growing at any point or does it keep growing until labour? I mean the bump, maybe it stops growing visually but baby keeps growing inside and the muscles are squashed more? It might be a very silly question... but I am wondering if I should buy more clothes, trousers and jeans do not fit and they are maternity type and a size over what I usually had!!
Bump will probably keep growing, my problem is my thighs are growing too so some of my pre-pregnancy stuff won't fit even with a bump band. And with it getting colder I really need to figure out how to keep warm without spending silly money on (eg) a maternity coat. So far have a wrap drape cardigan thingy which I reckon I can wear afterwards too for breastfeeding, but more stuff required!

I know that induction would mean it very unlikely that I'd get the water birth I want as one intervention tends to lead to a cascade of them.
I think here induction = not on the midwife led ward (thanks marta, had my tour today!), and I don't think there are pools on the non-midwife led ward.

I've had a different one every appointment so far (30 weeks now). Hopefully now that I'm at the 'right' community based midwife centre for the hospital I'm booked in at; I might see the same one again next appointment!

There is one birthing pool on the normal labour ward at my hospital apparently, but it is the increased intensity of pain due to the body not having time to get used to the contractions building, that often leads to stronger pain relief (for the same reasons as you MMM I don't want pethidine or morphine) and therefore more interventions that worries me with induction so I'd be worried I'd not be able to have a water birth if I couldn't cope with the pain.

Fingers crossed MMM that your baby puts in his appearance tomorrow or over night tonight so you don't need to go for induction. Bean can arrive from Monday on for me but needs to be out before Friday! lol

I've been told blowing up balloons helps induce labour as it changes the pressure in your abdomen or something.......this could be true......however it could also be entirely coincidental that it's my cousins birthday party on Monday and it was my auntie that told me this lol.

moneypenny, that Bebbetto Aquarious looks quite good, I have seen a video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nq-DQhPd3Gw
It seems it is quite new to the UK market but has been around in Europe for longer.

MMM, I soooo understand what you mean with your mum expecting you to do the effort with some family! I am well over 30 and she suggested I should "make peace" with some people now I am having a baby... which I do not get, if I did not want them in my life before, I won't want them in my life when baby is here! I would not want them having any influence on her!!

savage, I have the same problem. Not even my old underwear fits me now! I bought two pairs of maternity jeans on the first trimester, but they are already too tight, that is two sizes up now on my hips!! :( I am going to stick to leggings until I feel too cold, and then I might go and buy another pair of jeans. But since I am too hot anyway with the pregnancy, I want to wait and see if I actually will need them or not. I was also looking for a maternity coat, eBay is a good place to start looking, I would not expect any maternity coat to be worn more than three or four months, usually you need that size between five months and full term, not more, don't you? I am also considering a cape, which does not need to be maternity, they are quite big, and I could wear later on. Second hand / vintage / charity shops also have some items around. I rescued a coat I had in the garage that used to be too big for me, and I am going to give it a go. I can button it up, so unless my bump grows dramatically, I think I should be fine with that. It might not be very stylish now, but I am not sure if I'd wear it that much anyway, most of the times I'd wear it from the flat to the car, and from the car into whatever building or place I am going to so it does not seem like a need at the moment, we will see!

I went to Mothercare and Babies R US to have a quick look at moses baskets, but did not see anything we liked at the price we wanted. I will have a look at Boots again, if not maybe Argos. Has anyone bought an Argos moses? How is the quality?

I bought the Motorola BP28 baby monitor that was on offer at Argos, video digital for £44.99. It has mixed reviews, but I want to see it for myself. Some people complained about the video quality, but I am not expecting the quality of a current mobile phone, and even if it is a bit grainy, if I can see the baby, that is all I need. Not everybody has reported that problem and some people said the quality was good, so I wonder if the problem is the distance between rooms or the flooring/walls. I live in a 2 bedroom flat, so I hope that reception is good between rooms. Baby will sleep with us at first anyway, it will be used for nap times I guess, if baby needs a quieter / darker room and I need to do stuff around the house. I will give it a go this weekend and see.

On Kegels exercises, I tried the app Kegel Kat, it is cute but I had to take the sound off, it is funny but without sound you can do it anywhere. It has several modes: daily kegels, you just work towards your objective; no limit, you just keep going; dance: you kegel to the rhythm of the music / the instructions of the cat. It says "squeeze!" and "release". There is a free version and a paid version for 0.63 or so. You can set up the number of kegels, the seconds you want to squeeze, relax, etc.

I have seen 5 different midwifes so far between holidays and training days! I met the one who is supposed to be "my mw" a couple if weeks ago, hopefully that's it now and I'll see her all the time now.
