Hugs MummyofTwo - hope your little one puts in an appearance soon and people stop bugging you for news.

I've resigned myself to the fact that Bean will definitely go overdue and not arrive tomorrow. Got a midwife appointment on Monday afternoon (head not in pelvis, no symptoms at all, and to my knowledge, I still have my mucus plug), so will be interesting to see what she says as I definitely don't want sweeps or inducing as long as Bean and I are still ok - want to know when the monitoring will start and what it'll involve though. I'm also greatly alarmed by the huge jump in bump measurement (3cm in 2 weeks), and I'm hoping it's just inconsistent measuring. Will get them to measure again on Monday. Wonder if I'll have to have a scan to see if everything is ok?

Will find the list in a minute. Don't think there are any changes, as no birth announcements on here yet and I didn't spot any more new joiners.

Hugs to all who need or want them, labour vibes where appropriate and I hope everyone has a lovely weekend.

SM, I don't actually think they do any extra monitoring or scans for going over due hun or him not being in the pelvis as he can engage at any point espesh with it being your first, so it could be last minute when he engages. 3cm either side of fundal height is normal in my area and doesn't trigger any scans etc either, although I do think in your case it's cos you've been measured by someone different - although bear in mind if he was engaged when you were last measured and isn't now that could affect the measurement too.

As for the going overdue and refusing sweeps etc, I think you can refuse the first one on your due date and the one at 1 week overdue but they very rarely allow you to refuse after that I think. Can I ask why you want to refuse? Is it because you think it will hurt etc?

  • So, today I'm officially 38 weeks. Can't believe that means it could still be a whole month until baby is here - I'm starting to feel really impatient now :(

Had midwife appoinment yesterday, although ended up having to go to hosp for it due to docs being flooded! My blood pressure had gone up again, but she said not a problem. But she's sending off my wee to be tested as apparently there was protein and white blood cells, so she thinks maybe I've an infection, but she didn't seem concerned about that either? Says I don't need another appoinment until 40 weeks (will be day before due date) and that she'd be able to do a sweep that day if baby's not arrived. Seemed maybe a bit keen to me?

Still feeling a bit poorly too, feeling sickly and bit headachy on and off and finding it really hard to get up in the morning as I feel so sleepy. Weird though as once I'm up I don't really feel sleepy anymore.

Hope everyone else us ok? SM, hope things get moving for you soon.

Congrats for passing your test Morocha!

Rups, we eventually plumped for the mamas and papas zoom and have got the maxicosi car seat to go with it. Will probably get the easy fix base too if we can find one cheap. The pram seemed really good value for money, came with seat and carrycot for £269 I think it was, but got an extra 10% off that and free delivery as they had a promotion in store that day. Obviously haven't actually used it yet, but we set it all up and it seems pretty sturdy etc.
  • Oh, I meant to say too, I think if they did offer me a sweep at 40 weeks is take it. Don't think it causes a more intense labour or anything does it?

snowbean thats exactly what is happening with me, will next see a consultant at 40weeks for a sweep. I haven't seen my mw since 31 weeks, even though I've had hospital appointments in between they've been with a consultant so more technical like scans etc and less support like the mw would give.

I think that my due date isn't very accurate. As I was using a clearblue fertility monitor when we conceived and had been tracking ovulation for at least 6 months before getting my BFP, I think that 27th is a more accurate date than 23rd (so 4 days later). I think where I am, they only offer the sweep when you are a week overdue anyway (that's according to my notes), and to be honest, I'd rather that as long as the baby and I are ok, that he comes when he's ready rather than trying to artificially speed up the process. With the induction, I think they offer that here once the baby is over a week overdue, but I don't want to be induced as I'd rather go into labour naturally as having been to NCT classes I know that induction would mean it very unlikely that I'd get the water birth I want as one intervention tends to lead to a cascade of them. The monitoring will normally happen if you refuse induction - you go into the clinic daily I believe and the baby's heartrate, your BP etc are checked. You are perfectly within your rights to refuse induction as long as it isn't medically necessary.

  • you can refuse a sweep in my area, and refuse an induction but then you have to go over to consultant care after 41 weeks and make daily visits to the hospital for monitoring because the placenta doesnt work as well after that (i think).
i for one wouldnt want to be pregnant for one day longer than i have to be, my last two pregnancies i've gone the whole way over, had big fat babies and have been seriously peed off with it all, this ones coming early and i cant bloomin' wait :)
    Skint, but happy (ish):p

You aren't technically overdue until you reach 42 +1 weeks as the world health organisation states that full term is anywhere between 37-42 weeks. This is why I want to find out what the procedures in my area are on Monday's appointment, as I'll only be 40+1 on Monday and the surgery can't fit me in for an appointment nearer to the 41 week date.
