J She told me to make an appointment for next week (41 week appointment), but when I got to the reception, they had no availability!
Mine were relatively intelligent about this, after the 20 week scan appointment I don't go to the hospital again (only community midwives) so they booked me in then already for the 'you are now late' appointment

Congratulations morocha!!! :D Well done on passing your test!

Robes, I bought one on Wednesday at TkMaxx, very nice, it is black with some lace around the hems, which gives it a sexy look (imo), it is thin cotton, like a t-shirt material, but it is very comfy. I am using it now, I will use it in hospital and I will probably use it later on, so I think it was a good buy for £12.

I think I will take an old nightie with me for labour, just in case. I have requested water birth, but I can also have the nightie in the bath, I do not want to be completely naked unless there is a reason to do so. I hope I am not being silly! I might buy new pyjamas if I find any cheap within the next couple of months, I need to buy something that makes breastfeeding comfy, something I can put down or open instead of having to put the whole thing up and getting cold whilst breastfeeding.

I have the feeling I need to do lots of things... but I do not even know what!!! *shakes head*

Rups, re. prams/car seats, I won't recommend a particular brand, but do get a pram that can take a car seat (so much easier than getting baby out of the car seat and into the carrycot). I'd also recommend getting an isofix base for the car (provided your car has isofix points). Easier than using the seatbelt.

Personally I have the uppababy vista pram which comes with two seats - a carrycot and the stroller and a maxi-cosi cabriofix car seat which is compatible with the uppababy. Both are great.

Only possible problem is if you've been labouring in the bath, then have to get out for some reason and give birth on dry land. If so, might be worth having two nighties, as you don't want to be sitting in a wet nightie out of the pool.

Congratulations jjbargaingirl on the birth of your daughter.

Congratulations to mororcha on passing your theory test and on joining team pink - your other daughter must be thrilled to be getting a sister.

savage I wish my midwife team had thought of that idea. I guess there must be a big baby boom around here, but you would have thought that if they only run one midwife clinic a week at my surgery that they would block out a couple of appointments for people who need them urgently (like emergency doctor appointments). Or that if they know your due date, that they book all of the standard appointments in when you book once you've had your 20 week scan.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.

    Is this a good offer?

Motorola MBP28 Digital Video Baby Monitor £44.99 (inc delivery)

what bottles would you recommend? I read that Tommee Tippee Closer to nature are best... is that true? I think there are many models? What would be best?

marta that baby monitor looks like it's a good price to me - the cheapest I can find after a quick google is that price plus delivery of around £4 from Argos. We've got a motorola video one but not sure it's the same one - got it in Tesco with double clubcard points. It seems quite reasonable although the picture is a little pixelated. There was a guy in the shop next to us who was buying a new one as he was impressed with his one but his baby had accidentally chucked a part in the bath! We have the MAM starter set of bottles as they are self-sterilising in the microwave and anticolic. Think they may be a bit more expensive than Tommee Tippee ones, but they were highly recommended on the newborn thread at the time we bought them. Think Tommee Tippee ones are meant to be good too though although I'm not sure which ones I'm afraid.

I've heard that the Medela Calma is good as it avoids nipple confusion (if you are planning to breastfeed and only use bottles occasionally). If you look at how it works it seems to make the baby 'work' the nipple like it would have to for a breast - no 'work' no milk. (Plus, I've bought the medela pump, so makes sense to use those bottles as I think they fit - should check this weekend). I'm hoping to go largely without bottles at all at first anyway, then we'll see how we go later on with expressing if I need to be away from baby.
