Interesting reading about all the thoughts on bf. I have another question to add - can you express just like every once in a while? I'm worried about the lack of sleep and figured that if once a week DH could bottle feed with expressed milk overnight I'd be able to get at least one good night's sleep a week!

Hi, I just expressed occasionally, but found that if I hadn't expressed in a while I got very little milk (like my boobs forgot what to do LOL).

I don't really hold with the bonding BF thing either. My eldest brother was a massive baby 10 lb 8 oz and my Mum's first. it was a long labour (2 days) then a section under GA (in the late 1960s) and he was taken away and she wasn't allowed to see him or sit up for 2 days after. He wasn't breastfed and it definitely hasn't affected their bond LOL! He's such a mummy's boy and she would still say he was her baby!

You can express once in a while, only downside is that you still produce milk for the time baby would have been fed, so if you skip a night feed come morning you may well find a puddle in your bed and 2 melons in your bra ;)

    Moneypuddle,

I've invested in one for the cotbed as I dont want a ruined mattress, for the moses basket though they are in it for such a short time we just added a towel/extra bedding in to stop any accidents reaching it

I'm really sorry if I've started something by asking about breastfeeding. :(

Dizziblonde - I am so sorry for the way you were treated. :( I really hope that this time is so much better for you. The way you were treated was despicable. :(

I'm totally with you dizzi on the bf, I don't like to rant but it drove me mad. My daughter was on the SCBU and the pressure to persevere with the bf is out of all proportion to the need for it. I felt like I spent my whole life stuck on the the pump (oh, and they only had one electric one, so if that was busy they expected you to sit and hand pump!). And whilst I was pumping in a side room, they'd be doing the tube feeds, so I missed any hope of bonding through feeding. When she came off the tube feeds and after another 2 weeks still wouldn't latch on I'd just had enough. The lectures I received, and the guilt trips the MW put me on were ridiculous. Going on about when you've had a poorly baby you are failing her not to continue, it's so much more important for an ill baby to get breast milk etc. It's no wonder I had PND, I would cry for hours over the guilt. My daughter fed two hourly for months trying to gain some weight, so basically all I did was feed her anyway. At least with formula other people could help me out, if I'd listened to the MW's and kept expressing I would never have slept or had a break from it.

You can tell how much it annoys it me still 8 years later! Fortunately I didn't have any of the awful women in groups that you came across dizzi or I would've had words.

Also my son was formula fed from birth (much to the annoyance of MW's again), no colostrum or anything and he is the healthiest child I've ever known. He's only ever seen the GP once in his life, had no allergies etc. So it didn't do him any harm. And I was a happy, non-depressed mum, so it was better for everyone.

I'm not anti-breastfeeding - for those it works for great, but people should be able to accept that it doesn't work for everyone.

first congrats to kitten and Rj well done cant wait myself :)
Re bf my son would not latch also had a long recorvery following a full GA due to emergency c section and not the biggest nipples either . Still was too stubborn and was not going to give him anything but breast milk so u name it i've done it . syringe breast pump (manual and electrical) , later on by hand when i got the hang of it. I continued to bf him for a whole year stopped when he decided to try his new teeth on my nipple which was an absolute nightmare not cracked but clearely cut nipples.ouch ! I didnt think twice about bf before having him thinking it will come naturally but to some it doesnt and it no ones fault. As strong as i feel abt bf is best for baby no one should feel under pressure if they cant or wont do it its completely unfair for the mum. This time round i will try to be more prepared , will have to dust out my breast pump . it can be handy to hv one just in case :)

gosh dizsie sorry to hear about how you were treated. so stupid!!grrrr

emsaint, i wasnt on that bus (i was thinking where i have seen it though). But well done you for telling that guy where to go. what an idiot and inconsiderate fool! couldnt he really tell that you are pregnant? i have much ruder words for him but wont write them on here. I find a lot of people on the Croydon buses so rude. last week a woman was dying to get onto the bus and made sure she pushed me aside and then ended up draggng me with her and i asked her to calm down. what is wrong with them? Will they really die if they dont sit? some dont even have the common sense that there is a pregnant woman about. gosh...

i usually get on the 197 or 312 bus from east croydon station. :) we should all meet. i understand youare nearly there but maybe afterwards as there are so many of us around Croydon. :)

just had to force myself to have a shower lol. feel so lazy and groggy. the belly is aching again. ;( waiting for stupid washing to finish so hang it out and i bet when i do, it will start raining. lol
