ikkle for the baby's bag, we've been told by the midwife at the hospital to bring a small tupperware container or margarine tub or similar to put the water in for topping and tailing. A small bottle for the baby may be appropriate too, just in case you end up expressing or need to use formula for any reason.
Have you got snacks for your OH too? Maybe a magazine for both of you. Flipflops for the shower and toothpaste and toothbrush for OH (maybe a change of clothes for him - something cool to wear if it's hot). I may put in a pack of facewipes in case I can't get to the bathroom for a while too (suppose you could use babywipes though).
formula and bottles are provided at the hospital and we have a little plastic tub which my medicine will go in. The kendal mint cake is to share with my OH, he will also have change for vending machines etc. The toothbrushes are a twin pack so one each and we can share toothpaste and deoderant as it's lynx. He has a tshirt and undies too incase we are there a long time and a carrier bag to bring mucky clothes home in. I can't wear flipflops cos my feet are really bad, think one of my ankles are 14inches around at the minute it's that swollen, but my slippers are kinda flip flop style so will do, plus the showers are quite clean luckily. Only problem with packing magazines is everytime I buy them I end up reading them lol. I do have a book though, and OH will just play games on his phone if we are there for a while.
My mum is on snack duties lol, she always used to make awesome pack ups for school trips when I was little so that's her job this time lol. xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I'm not going to bother with anything for OH, if he needs anything clothes wise he can nip home or my dad can bring it in. Might leave a small change bag for him in the car. Last time the hospital was 60 miles from home so he took a sleeping bag to sleep in the car as I was being induced. They made him leave about midnight and my waters broke about an hour later but they wouldn't let me phone him till six  this time I'm doing things my way, I was only 24 then and didn't want to make a fuss but I will this time:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

Morning all!!
RJH here they supply sheets and blankets for the crib. That's about it. If you plan to bottle feed you're supposed to bring all your stuff. They have supplies for emergencies or if breast feeding isn't going to plan. They borrowed a vest, sleep suit and hat for bubs as we have nothing with us that day.
SM my plan was a holdall. A suitcase because it's so rigid can be hard to store on a ward but a holdall is more squishy.
Ikkle hope you rest a bit today. Was crappy night here. Won't explain the antics of the other lady on here, but very odd behaviour!
After the last two nights would recommend earplugs! Also it's do hot in here, I'm glad I packed a bottle of squash for afterwards.
Her they have done funny ideas. They have a hat policy. Babies should be wearing them at all times! Want on my list of stuff to bring. However they advise to stop wearing hats at home as increased risk of cot death - logic? Also you cannot hold you baby and walk up the corridor. You can push it in the crib on wheels though. This is incase your fall over or a midwife bumps into you or runs you down with a bed. Third weird rule is swaddling. I know it was talked about a while back. They advise against it here as linked to cut death. But midwives really seem to love it.
Seems these things are safer in hospitals the doors and windows are optn so despites mummy's melting in the stifling heat. Babies need hats, 3 blankets and swaddling because of draft from doors/windows. I'm
Missing something as our windows are often left open lol.
If you might be having section or staying in and needing to wear the stockings some moisturiser is good cos they make your legs dry. Flip flops for the shower - forgot mine :-( nappy sacks double up as useful bedside bins. If you have a spare phone charger pack it! We'd had our baby and each had about 3% on each phone!
I got nighties etc they had buttons for feeding but much easer lifting up the top. Is so hot literally a vest top is all you'll need and lightweight trousers.
Can't think of much else.
Just waiting for our paperwork etc then we can go :-) although she's busy with another lady. From the Pictures Bubs room is looking lovely :-) can't wait to get home and start nesting. Better late than never!
Big labour vibes RJH and to the other boldies.
Kitten am thinking of you if you manage to log on
Hugs to anyone else who needs them. Hope you all have a great weekend xxx:j Baby boy arrived 22nd August 2012 :j

You mean your not going to share how odd she is LMM?? I'd laugh if she was an MSE'r lol. It's weird all these different protocols for different hospitals and how they contradict themselves.
Yay for going home thoughthe piccy you put on the book of face this morning is lush!

My midwife told me I couldn't bring in my phone charger as it hasn't been checked by an electrician, this was the same in the last hospital too.:j little fire cracker born 5th November 2012 :j0

It says that on the notes we got at antenatal class but the last few times I've been admitted to the maternity ward and delivery suite I've been allowed to use it. It helps that it's a usb charger too so I can always just plus the USB cable into the TV lol xYou never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

sexymouse, bit surprised you're on iron tablets with an hb level of 10.9. Mine was 10.5 when it was tested at around 28 weeks and they said this was fine.
Re. MRSA, as you know I'm in the south too but they didn't swab me for it. It's normally policy to swab for routine ops and I recall being swabbed a year or so ago (as was my friend more recently when she had her tonsils out) so, thinking about it, I'm a bit surprised I wasn't swabbed for labour.
Hospital bags - I used the changing bag for Freddie's things but bought myself a new bag (what a great excuse!). You do need a fairly large one - I stayed in for two nights and the OH bought me more clothes with needed taking home again, plus people visit and bring you presents."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

That's the advice but in practice the midwives couldn't care less. I recharged my phone and my kindle (not that I did any reading).

That is crazy scottishchick! What if you are stuck in for days, are you just meant to go slightly mad not being able to contact anyone!? Phone chargers are allowed on the children's wards where I am, so I assume it'll be the same on maternity wards.
LMM it is amazing how many strange people you can come across in hospital. It's great that you're getting home though
I'm also not going to take anything for DH in my hospital bag (not that I have even considered buying or packing one yet lol!). I figure he'll just grab his tablet and play on that if he really wants. Plus he won't stay a minute longer than he has to, he doesn't like hospitals at all.Cross Stitch Cafe member no.800
