Question re hospital bag - I have packed a blanket for wee man coming home but it's like a fleee pram blanket. We haven't bought any sleeping blankets as we using sleeping bags but do I need to buy a blanket for him for hospital or do they supply that?

rj - I would have thought that the hospital would supply a blanket whilst the baby is in there - it may be worth asking your midwife though, as different hospitals do different things in my experience.

Can I ask, what are people using for their hospital bags? Have people bought holdalls, or are you using a cabin-sized suitcase? I think I'm going to have to buy a bag - Bean's things can go in the Boots changing bag, but I don't have anything for my stuff, particularly as we have to take a bath-sheet-sized towel in with us which will take up a lot of room.

ikkle -did anyone turn the heat down for you in the end? That is inconsiderate, I can't bear being hot and it had me close to tears when it was just the weather and no one's fault.

I ended up sat in the garden in the rain at one point and my Grandad offered to take me home and pick me up at half 5 this morning instead so we did that. I didn't sleep well but at least I was cool with my bedroom window open and felt like I could breathe and wasn't going to puke.

Got to my aunties just before 6am as it's her dog/house we are looking after and she even mentioned that my grans house was extremely warm last night when she popped in so it wasn't just me.

Currently in shock by how big my aunties house, I've only ever been downstairs in the kitchen and living room but we've been upstairs as they are going to Australia to live again on the 27th September and are giving us a few things so went to have a look at them. It's a massive 4 bedroom house and the rooms are massive. My aunties bed is that big I could probably lay on it sideways and still have room above my head and I'm 6ft2 lol.

The dog is being very cute but she keeps pinching my custard cream biscuits lol and barking at a blooming squirrel.

I dunno about hospital bags, I thought I had mine sorted but have ended up taking a few things out and now it needs redoing.

Babies bag is my changing bag and is all packed. Nappies, wipes, cotton wool, vests, sleepsuits, coming home outfit, cardigan, hats, scratch mitts, socks, blanket and a swaddle cloth. Can anyone think of anything else I need for baby?

Mine is a suitcase and currently has slippers, nighty for giving birth in, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, toiletries, breast pads, maternity pads, kendal mint cake, a bottle of cordial, camera, batteries, phone charger and deoderant in. Still to go in are socks, medication, 2 pairs of pj's, a bra, some vests, comfy trousers, knickers, my phone, my notes, lollipops, my towel, a hairband and some bobbles in. (thats off the top of my head cos it's at home lol) can anyone else think of anything else? I don't need a fan as there is an electric one in each room on the labour ward.

Sorry to hear you had a rubbish night ikkle - hope you manage to catch up on some sleep today. I slept with the fan on again last night as it was very muggy here, and can't believe that your grandparents needed the heating on! I'm guessing your username is ironic then. lol

Yep username has been with me since my teens, a few people actually call me ikkle in real life lol. I'm the oddball in my family as everyone else is short lol but I've always been tall and towered over everyone (cos my dad is very tall too) it used to be ikklemoonshine as a username on other forums I went on but because everyone just called me ikkle I dropped the moonshine bit lol.

ikkle for the baby's bag, we've been told by the midwife at the hospital to bring a small tupperware container or margarine tub or similar to put the water in for topping and tailing. A small bottle for the baby may be appropriate too, just in case you end up expressing or need to use formula for any reason.

Have you got snacks for your OH too? Maybe a magazine for both of you. Flipflops for the shower and toothpaste and toothbrush for OH (maybe a change of clothes for him - something cool to wear if it's hot). I may put in a pack of facewipes in case I can't get to the bathroom for a while too (suppose you could use babywipes though).

  • I've got a cabin sized suitcase for me and baby's changing bag for him. I've got some bits in it already but still have most of it to do. I feel like I'm tempting fate by packing it too early.
