wow! that post was epic! LOL!!
  • Morning all!

Had a bit of a funny night last night; went to see best mate whose just split up with her husband :( then had to head back home and sort out the house as the plasterer is in today. Was trying not to get stressed, but I hate the house being in such a state. I know it wwill all be worth it when it's done, but I would hate the upheavel anyway let alone at being 31 weeks pregnant! OH and I still can't agree what colour to paint all the walls - he wants a really dark brown colour and I keep trying to explain to him that if we do this it will close the rooms in - we might as well paint them black! I've got a compromise in mind so will suggest it to him later, hope he goes for it!

Ikkle hope you are feeling better now - that sounds nasty! I can understand why your OH was so concerned!
Sillymoo hope the bouncing does the trick!
bellola I bought a nappy bin with four replacement cassettes from ebay for about £4.50; I've read good things about them and i will probably end up using mine for the resuable nappies that i have bought - like Gilly I will use a drop or two of essential oil. My friend however swear by scented nappy bags and has bought me a load of those, which will def come in useful still! Have you ever seen the episode of friends where Rachel us thrown a baby shower? She is bought a nappy bin and she asks what she needs it for; when she is told it's where you put the dirty diapers, she asks why she can't just take it outside and her Mum asks her if she is going to trapse outside ten times a day!
IKMC/moneypenny reusable nappies - ok, I am not expert, but I have spent the past four months reading about every type of nappy, each brand, disposable liners, resuable liners etc. It really is a personal choice, but try www.thenappylady.co.uk - if you put your details in she will assess your requirements and send you a personalised recommendation. I did this and she actually recommended the nappies that I had pretty much decided to get anyway! I went for Little Lamb Bamboo nappies as these are the most absorbant - they take a little longer to dry than others, but I have read such good things about them and the whole ethos of little lambs was appealing too. I've only bought Size 1 at this stage but if all goes well will get Size 2 as and when I need them. i was lucky to get a great deal on ebay where someone was basically selling a Size 1 kit (nappies, wraps, liners) + extras brand new! I have bought a load of disposable liners but not sure if I will use them - I have also heard about toilets getting blocked with them etc, but I also have fleece and bamboo liners so we'll just see how we get on. i think the other thing to be careful of with resuables is not to get too carried away - there are a few people who get a bit obsessed with them and buy loads which (if you are using them to save money) kind of defeats the object sometimes! Not all councils help with trial packs or grants - mine doesn't! :( But still worth checking it out; think most places give something like £30 back when you produce a receipt.

Re breast pumps can't remember who asked, but yes, medela is very highly rated. however, I've bought this one off Amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Spectra-3-Electric-Breast-Pump/dp/B000UTUFP6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342167556&sr=8-1 which has got really good reviews. I found it on a baby website (can't remember which one) but the Mum that had posted about it said it was just as good as the medela one and will save you a few pennies as well.

Finally, welcome to any newbies and hope everyone is enjoying their Friday and looking forward to the weekend! :T

Embet - thanks for the info on Asda nighties, I'm going shopping soon and on the lookout!

Rebekah - good luck for Monday! Not long!

Ikkle - glad to hear you're feeling better.

Last day at work today! My leaving lunch yesterday was lovely and I got some lovely babygrows and a card and cash from everyone to buy the car seat. The finishing touch was Mark Wright and Arg from TOWIE turning up at the restaurant! (not for me obv!) I know it's sad but I was pretty star struck and it made my day!

So yes last day today and I got a bit teary on the drive in as the next time I make this journey, I will have the baby in the car to show off to everyone!

Got a busy weekend - celebratory meal out tonight with OH, maternity unit tour tomorrow, then pram shopping and other baby stuff-buying on Sunday. Can't wait, I have my list!

Nappy bins - I wasn't going to bother and just got the value sacks but we were given the Angelcare bin. I think I paid about £11 on Amazon for 3 cassettes so thought I'd give it a go. I think it'll probably need emptying every other day but if I don't get on with it, I'll sling it.

Hope everyone has a good day, and good luck to Silly Moo and Clarissa.

    Morning all!

Well the agency messed up, and despite me calling them yesterday afternoon to say I could work my full day booking today (have been off sick for the last two days), I got to the school to find that another supply teacher was covering me! Have spoken to the agency and they're going to pay me £50 as it was their fault (still not a full day's pay as I would've got which is annoying but at least it's something). It's unlikely that this close to the end of term that anything will come in for this afternoon.

Anyway, enough moaning. I've caught up on the thread and also wanted to point out that if people are looking for nighties, I got some in Primark the other week for £4.50 each (t-shirt style cotton with buttons down the front to the right level for breastfeeding - they had a few different colours). They did have button-down cami-style nighties too, but I wanted a bit more coverage personally. Think I'm going to use these nighties after the birth (got dark colours specifically), and have no idea what I'm going to use if I have a water birth yet. I was thinking a black nursing vest or similar may be a good idea as it'll dry out quickly and hopefully cover me a little bit and allow breast-feeding initially. Think I'll have a scout around the net today to see if I can find any good ones - will post back on here if I do.

Has anyone had any experience of buying from kiddisave? I was looking at a changing table on there at the weekend and they had 10% off when you spend over £150 but the offer has changed to just £5 off now, so wondered how often their offers change? Obviously 10% would be a lot more off than just £5 so don't know whether to wait for a while or whether to go for a different item that costs less in the first place (Moon prefers the style of the more expensive change table).

Good luck for anyone having sweeps etc today.

Hugs for all who need or want them, and labour vibes where appropriate.

Thank you MMM for the link, been meaning to fill in a questionnaire again, we knew what would work for us last time but don't know if it has changed so filled it in again. :D

Ikkle, that sounded painful, made my eyes water a little. Hope you are feeling better now and OH is looking after you.

For some reason yesterday I managed to hit myself in the face with the laptop (I have no idea how this happened) I even cut my lip so it was bleeding. All ok now and more funny and bemusing than painful.

I was sure I read somewhere that nurseries can't refuse to use reusable nappies. They won't wash them or anything so you need to supply all the nappies and bags so you can collect the dirty ones and get them washed.

I don't think they are that keen on terries because of the time and faff but modern washables are so easy it shouldn't add any extra work for them.

I asked at my nursery when we went for a look on Tuesday, and they're happy to do it if you supply all the bits :) One of their aims is to keep baby's routine as close to what they have at home as possible, to prevent disruption.
