Hi ladies, just popping over from the 12-24 week thread to ask if anyone has any tips on coping with SPD/Pelvic pain? The only advice the midwife would give was 'keep your legs together and take paracetamol'. Has anyone tried any exercises etc that have helped or should I just grin and bear it?
Noooooooo don't grin and bear it! Ask for a physio referral. I had one and after 10wks my pain is managed...
I found doing nothing helped, no washing up (I.e twisting) no bending to use washing machine, no lifting, no walking far, nothing. However I had a supportive doctor and boss so had 12wks off work.
Finally I know what hurts and what doesn't.
I also find crutches help a lot, they take the weight off your hips.If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
I like Irish names as our surname is Irish but anyone I've told has made a face but I'm not letting that put me off.
Just while I remember - Mothercare are doing buy 1 get one half price on nursing bras/nightdresses etc
ETA: Any idea when someone's gonna ask me about a birthing plan? My next appointment is 32+2 weeks so I'm thinking maybe then?
Claree - we discussed birth plan (or 'birth preferences') at my 36 week appointment. I know a lot of people say not to bother but personally I found it useful as it helped me to think a bit more about labour and my own personal choices. DH came to the appointment with me and so he knows how I feel about certain things. I'm prepared for the whole 'plan' to go out the window but I'm pleased I got the chance to talk through some things.
Anybody else watching Nadal? Excellent match so far!!0 -

I've been waking at 5:30 for weeks now - you might need to get used to it  when I return to work next week it will come in handy
On a very important topic: maternity knickers: don't bother... Just get a pack of 3 non vpl primark knickers - they stretch over bump and were brilliant pre-baby too!
On a second important note... Where can I buy maternity work clothes? I won't wear black trousers so my options are limited to dresses. Any ideas? Also skin coloured tights - has anyone found these? I need to power dress for 6 weeks and am really struggling!
I got a couple of nice dresses for work from Next maternity (online) and skin coloured tights from H and M.
Another tip re knickers - I bought some big supermarket cheapies and cut the waistbands off....bliss! So much more comfy now especially as my bump has dropped so low down, I was so uncomfortable with any kind of waistband!0 -
We have our name sorted out. Its Adam's Granddads middle name. He was a lovely man before he passed and its a cute name but his first name is Alfred. Didn't like that as it reminds us of Batman's butler (we're quite comic book nerdy) He doesn't like the name Harley either. Not after the bike, after Harley Quinn (yes I know she's a girl, but its a cute boys name too). He said it reminded him too much of the bikes which he hates (same opinion as the south park episode)
But we're not saying what it is as 2 other people I know are pregnant and I don't want them to find out and either call their kid it before we do. Had someone do that to us with DD2. Born August and called her Scarlett and a month later, someone gives birth and calls their kid Scarlett!! I blame Facebook for that. Luckily their kid is rude, naughty, still doesn't sleep through the night and ugly. Mean I know but still, its a little consolation:rotfl:
As for water births, you'll only be allowed G&A. Anything else and its too health and safety risk so you have to get out. Hopefully I'll be able to have one this time as well as the last 2 as it helped sooooo much. Just don't think they'll be able to fill it up in time :rotfl:What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0 -
My birth plan is basically 'I will kill anyone who tries to use forceps on me.' DH knows it as he has had it drilled into him since eldest was born (10 years ago) If I say I want something then I want something and if I say I'm going to be sick then go and get me something to be sick in (had to be given anti emetics with both my girls and midwife argued with me when I told her I was going to be sick!)
I can second the physio referral for SPD - I was on crutches from 20 weeks with youngest. I also managed to get a referral for hydrotherapy which was amazing. The belts are incredibly uncomfortable, especially when sitting down, I found the velcro dug in underneath my bump and it hurt, however they are fab when standing up! I was given industrial sized tubigrip for my tummy today, it was lovely to wear on the way up for the school run but after 2 hours I felt sick.Norn Iron Club member 273:beer:0 -

tbh.. the exercises are all a waste of time I found and some hurt more than the pelvis in the first place. I'm a grin and bear it.. I have been on crutches from about 18 weeks and take OTC codeine and paracetamol at double doses.. or triple.. usually double.. mainly because I can't be bothered trying to get a drs appointment just to be fobbed off.
I don't wear the belt.. it is agony.. it is itchy and excessively uncomfy and puts pressure on my lower back and hurts my hips more... it also pokes lumps in my clothes which I hate. It supports the bits that don't hurt and hurts the bits that do.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Re. names, we have a list of 3 that we like, but one clear favourite. Keeping them a secret to avoid other people's opinions.
Now just waiting for all my pregnant FB friends and a few family members to give birth with fingers crossed that they don't use our fave name! I wouldn't mind but our surname is a bit odd and really tricky to find a first name that sounds right, so if someone with a nice normal surname steals our name I'm gonna be so cross!! (obviously they won't really have stolen it, as it's secret, but you know what I mean!!)0 -
Can any of the ladies who live near a Mamas & Papas outlet give me a shout if they see when they next have a 10% off weekend? OH wants to get an Isofix base for our car seat and not many have come up on Ebay within a reasonable distance of our house so we're thinking of getting a new one, and might as well spend the other money on something else/save a few quid.0

I believe my daughter has an M&P base.. I can ask if you want.. M62 area is possible for drop offs.. I am sure she has the Pliko pushchair and Primo Viaggio car seat to go with it too.. car seat she used about a dozen times as we just stuff Spam in Dots seat
Poppy.. we 'stole' squeaks name too apparently it was OH's cousins first choice.. she'd not shared what names she liked and we didn't have a name until she was a week old.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
