  • Fluff/LMM thanks for the clarification on epidurals not affecting the baby, that's good to know! I'd still not prefer to have one though cos you can't move for hours afterwards and that will drive me insane, even if I am knackered and don't want to move it will just be the principle, lol!

Savage someone asked about breastfeeding if you've had a caesarean, think they were told that it was important to get skin-to-skin contact going so they suggested baby is given to Dad and that he can do that whilst Mum is being stitched. They indicated that skin-to-skin is important for bonding/instincts etc, so it will be going into my birth plan that baby is not to be taken away for cleaning and measurements before coming to me!

RJH I have some great handouts from our antenatal classes about breastfeeding - I can scan them in and send them to you if you like? PM me your email address if you are interested.

KatyLiz I am with you, not weighed myself and have no intentions of doing so! I was big for years and then lost weight about four/five years ago so I knew I was going to struggle with being pregnant. I don't train anywhere near like I used to, but if I weigh myself I think I will become fixated on that and I know that I need to look after baby first and foremost! People keep telling me that I am all bump, but I can feel that I have put some weight on my thighs and hips and a little round the chest. I have good and bad days with it all really - at the minute I am all positive and fine about it so I hope that I stay this way for the next seven weeks!
  • oh, and I managed to get two of those body shop bags featured in the moneysaving email - took forever though cos the website kept crashing! That's a few more Christmas presents sorted out!

I've introduced myself on the newborn thread so I'll probably be departing these shores...

Before I go, I might impart a few words of wisdom that I've learnt in my couple of weeks with Freddie:

    1. Labour's OK. It's not as frightening as you think. Good support is important, from your midwives and your OH.
    2. The most useless piece of parenting advice is 'trust your instincts'. What does this even mean? That doesn't help you when you're desperately trying to get a crying infant to latch on to your booby at three in the morning when you've not slept for days. What you need is proper practical support and advice, not meaningless platitudes. Ask for help whenever you need it. Do not struggle on alone.
    3. The best bit of advice is 'sleep when they sleep'. Sod the housework or entertaining people. Close the curtains, stick some earplugs in and get some proper kip.
    4. Babies shit. A lot. Constantly. They are shitting machines.

Good luck, you lovely ladies. I'll be thinking of you x.

I forgot to post about when I went in the (very cold) sea at the beach on Sunday - as soon as a wave washed over my bump, Beanie went mad, I got hit in 3 places at once. Think the poor thing was surprised :rotfl:

If I sleep with my phone next to me when the alarm goes off mini_cub actively jumps. The boys did the same. :rotfl:

MW told me yesterday that I have lost weight which isn't that surprising. I gained 4stone with the boys and didn't get the chance to lose it. (that did include the boys, placenta, water etc) so this time I have been gradually losing it despite not moving and eating lots of sweets. Midwife isn't worried and either am I, I don't weigh myself and haven't asked her what the figures are either :D

  • I did weigh myself the other day and have put on 8kgs which I think is a stone and a bit. I was curious and egged on by OH. I don't think for almost 33 weeks is too bad, but I don't really know. I don't feel too massive all over although I may well be! And now I know bubba's estimated weight is just over two kgs it doesn't seem too much. How accurate the scales are I don't know. I reckon some of that weight was probably a thick layer of dust on the scales cos we had to dig them out lol.

Just read on another baby group tesco are having a sale. They've got lovely dresses that aren't pink/purples. Mostly summer stuff but not much in 9-12 boys which is what I was looking for in time for next year. You can collect free inshore I think too. Don't know if it's any good to anyone

Fluff we'll miss your good humour! And Rups just lurk on the newborn thread. I've got lots of tips there ;) xx

  • They don't routinely weigh you anymore. it doesn't prove that anything to do with the baby's size. Some ladies barely put on weight and a very decent size baby, other put on loads and have a relatively small baby.
There's certain high risk groups that I'm sure will be weighed, but my understanding is its not routine.
