Oooh! Good luck - will be thinking of you as thats the day of MW appointment (and no doubt I will get slapped wrists for not seeing my doc as she asked me to at 26 weeks!!! Ooops!).
Are you not tempted to go for the end of that week (placenta permitting and all that!) - so you could get the holiday in as part of your maternity leave??? I know I'm due a week later than you but thats what I have done! So even though I leave work on the 24th (they will pay me full pay for the week after also which is holiday!).
This is baby staying put and all that!;)
Tried a birthing ball at my antenatal class - for anyone in doubt - they are fab - very comfy! Just this minute bought one to use pre-birth and in labour!!!!
I was going to work the last week and start my mat leave for the end of the holidays but I just want (touch wood) two weeks to myself and to mentally prepare myself for labour and being a mummy. I just want to enjoy a couple of weeks of having all that Me Time whilst my OH is at work.
If I have to have a C Section I will have to have it when they say so and I am guessing that they will want me in a couple weeks before I am due. I'd love to have some choice in the matter though. You know, the one thing that is putting me off a C Section is being told when his birthday will be. I really want it to be a surprise.
I have one of those balls. I bought it at the hospital when I had my physiotherapy. Did I tell you about that??! OMG! It was a joy to behold - NOT. There were about seven pregnant ladies sat in a semi-circle being spoken at for about two hours. The main lesson that I learned was that if we don't do out exercises then, being very crude, our f@nnies will fall out. I just had visions of walking around the supermarket with it flipflapping about!! When she told us that everyone gasped in horror and my jaw hit the ground. It was horrifying!!!0 -

:rotfl:That is sooooo funny! You are hurting my belly! I guess mine will start flipflapping around then:eek: - as I find it hard to stand for more than 10 mins at a time due to dodgy pelvis!
Thats seriously horrendous advice - thank goodness I have decided not to see a physio! Phew!
I reckon you will be ok, hope you don't have to have CS (I'm not dreading a CS at all strangely, although of course I am hoping not to have one - but I absolutely will refuse to have an epidural - they will have to put me out instead - yes I know the risks - but I am petrified of a needle in my back).
You have inspired me with your post to start some anti-fanny flipflap exercises......!!!:rotfl:0 -

Haha it was horrible lol
I'm not having an epidural either. Hell will have to freeze over before anyone is injecting anything into my spine. The thought of it just makes me feel really anxious.
At the mo, I'm leaning towards wanting a water birth purely because warm water helps to numb pain. Oh gawd, I can't believe that we are at the stage of discussing giving birth!!0 -
I'm fairly sure you accrue bank holidays in the same way as normal holidays, while on maternity leave. I did, anyway. Though it may depend on how many days holiday your employer gives you aside from bank holidays - I think you have to have a minimum of 28 days per year, but that can include bank holidays. So I get something like 20 days, plus 8 bank holidays.
I'm also finishing on 24th May, which gives me 3 weeks to get myself organised for this baby arriving. I finished about 6 weeks before DS arrived as I had holidays to use up, and was pretty bored by the time he arrived, so hopefully I won't have so much time spent twiddling my thumbs this time.
This time I'm saving my holidays til I go back in the New Year, so I can hopefully spend the first few weeks effectively working part time for full time pay
Good luck on Tuesday snozberry.
I know what you mean about having a needle in your back IHateDida and snozberry - I absolutely did not want an epidural with DS for that very reason. (There were also issues with me being on anti-coagulants - but that was just fuel to my determination to stay well away from needles in my spine!) As it was, I managed with the pool and gas and air, despite DS being back to back and fairly big. Hopefully I can do the same this time.
I must remember to do my exercises, or my foof is going to be in a shocking state by the time I've squeezed out another baby :eek:You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0 -
Thanks snozberry. That's another thing I have tried but no joy there either. God, I'm sounding so defeatist aren't I? Hopefully something will turn up soon.
Also PMSL at the f@nnies falling out! Not wise to have us all laughing so much at this stage of pregnancy though. ;-) X0 -
Evening ladies and bumps!
Just a quick to post to let you know baby Cara born on Tuesday (26th) weighing in at 8lb 4oz after a 36 hour labour, all natural with a bit of g&a when pushing! Shot out like a bullet at the end and needed stitches but recovering well and mummy and daddy settling into family life!
Away to try and read back to catch up what I've missed xSaving money like a trouper...0 -
abbybryan1982 I was induced at 36 weeks my birth story is on the labour thread
(August 2012)
Pessary was given in the evening but in the morning I hadn't started. Before they gave me another I had a bath. When I got out the bath they were going to give me another Pessary but checked me and I was 5cm. Got my epidural and wanted to give me the drip to get things moving. Epidural hadn't worked so didn't want it and refused. She checked me again and I was crowning.
Really expected it to take hours/day but active labour was 34 minutes. The Pessary did cause false contractions which did absolutely nothing except hurt. The only thing they would give me was Pethadine which worked wonders.
My birthplan was "all the drugs" I think it worked well lol. They did discuss the plan with me all through so it wasn't a surprise. I also did research before hand.

Congrats to all the new babies
Claretsgirl - don't be defeatist! The best places where I made new mummy friends after having DD were: at the post-natal group that the HV organises, about 6 weeks after birth; baby sensory classes; baby/toddler groups held at the local churches; baby swimming classes; and rhyme time groups at the children's centre. There are so many opportunities - you just need to find them and put yourself out there. DD is now 2 and we love meeting up with her little/my friends
Hi ladies, just a little delurking from the less than 12 weeks thread. Still early days here, 10+6, so looking forward to seeing you all soon. Scan at 12+1 - can't wait!0 -
Lots of babies coming - so exciting! Scary seeing my name move up the list now.0
