Am so angry I'm shaking here. Cousin (who is a self-centred witch at the best of times) decided that getting the max number of Christmas presents for her kids (and bragging she hadn't bought any herself cos everyone else would) was more important than NOT spreading whatever illness her own kids had around where she KNEW babies and pregnant women were going to be on Xmas Day.

So she'd rocked up - with her two, her new baby barely able to breathe and obviously with something really not right with it - made sure to get the maximum presents possible... and oh yeah - it's turned out to be whooping cough - which I know for a fact I wasn't vaccinated for as a kid (there was some health scare about it at the time I remember my mum telling me about later) and I was sat waiting to hit the 28-38 week point to get vaccinated for during this pregnancy... so now I have to go running around tomorrow getting blood tests to check immunity (and pray to god I caught it as a kid) and spend the evening googling my butt off - but it's ok, and absolutely forgiveable in my family's eyes that I've been put in that position so someone could get more Christmas presents...

Not to mention the fact my little girl has suspected asthma already needing an inhaler, and is an ex-preemie... thank God she's up to date with all her jabs is all I can say.

If the bump's been put at risk by this then I am going to let rip to absolutely insane levels of apocalypticness. I do NOT need this right now, I can barely walk as it is, let alone run around health centres and chasing midwives... oh and not a word from my family (my own blooming PARENTS !!!!!!!) about "you might want to get this looked at and make sure your lot are all right" just the cousin, cousin, cousin.

Wahoo! 2 babies, congrats to Hotbern and Rups! Bouncing baby boys, fantastic! Hope the stitches are not causing Rups too much discomfort.

Dizzi - oh my god what a !!!!! your cousin is and how bloody inconsiderate too. That's typical that your parents are keeping quiet to you about it, that is the kind of reaction I would get from mine as well. I would be tempted to go and knock her flaming block off, I'm so angry for you. unfortunately I do not know a lot about whooping cough, had LO had all her vaccinations so far?

Bamama - hope the nerves have settled down a bit, it must be strange leaving the house as 2 and returning as 3 especially as babies don't come equipped with a manual.

We've taken our Christmas tree down today and spring cleaned the lounge, got a few more baby bits, washing up bowl and some plastic pots for bathing and top and tail washing in the early weeks. Was going to buy a top and tail bowl but couldn't believe how big they were, total PITA!

Baby's up to date on jabs thank goodness... I know I've not been done as a kid, so I've got to go get it checked tomorrow - but of course I'm "selfish" for ringing the midwife to check yadda yadda.

Looking like grandma isn't watching baby when I go into labour - so hubby's going to have to stay at home and I'll have to go in on my own - oh well - can't make it much worse than it'll be anyway!

dizzi that's awful! So angry on your behalf especially on top of your other problems! As far as I can tell from google (not the best source I know!) the baby should be fine so long as you are no longer infectious by the time it's born, so here's hoping for one not quite so early for you this time!

As for not having hubby with you, we're in a similar situation with few family living nearby that could help. We luckily have OH brother, is there no-one you could get to help you out? Friends? Neighbours? Does your LO go to nursery and do they know anyone ho could help with looking after her even if you had to pay something?

There are certain NHs trusts that take previous pregnancy trauma a lot more seriously, some even set up support groups for mums, so sorry there's noting like that in your area :( here's hoping that you can sort out the WC problem ASAP so you have one less hing to worry about. Hugs x x

Blood test done - hopefully it comes back that I have immunity (just getting to the end of the possible incubation period for it) - I had some nasty cough as a kid that my mother had self-diagnosed as whooping cough but then my mother's from a family of hypochondriacs who would diagnose a stubbed toe as gangrene so I take very little for granted.

Assuming my mother doesn't apologise from the little rant she went on - don't think she was expecting the reply of "well the midwife's got me in for bloods tomorrow morning so apparently she views it as more serious than you do" that she got - we're stuck with the birth thing. If I go to term my MIL will probably be hanging around (I don't get the option on this one - presented with the fait accompli), and she can look after the little one (but I'd like to NOT have the pressure of knowing she's at home scrutinising and expecting news and comparing how long I'm taking to the blessed sister-in-law), but if I deliver early again (which is really when we'd need the help - our hospital doesn't send any prem parents home but the real micro preemies - they keep you in for the duration of your child's stay - last time it was a fortnight, we got lucky!) she won't be anywhere near to hand and will need to organise flights and trains to get here (and I really don't want her around in those circumstances anyway after her theatrics last time melodramatically sobbing at the state of HER granddaughter - which made me feel like I'd given birth to some total freak, not an utterly beautiful little girl who did look like a tiny doll - and yes, although I'm biased she was a blooming good looking prem baby!)
