Congrats misskeith, that's a pretty amazing birth story & it's good to know that even though you might think you have a really low pain threshhold (I've definitely been one of those people in the past!) you can get through labour with little or no pain relief :) And great news we've got a 12/12/12 mummy & baby on the thread!

Labour vibes to those who need them & good luck to those who need it.

I have a question too. Although I'd like to warn you there may be tmi for some people :D I've been to the Drs this morning because I've had quite bad constipation for the last week or so & ended up with one of the not so pleasurable aspects of pregnancy which bled quite badly last night :( I'm talking about piles if you've not already guessed :( Thankfully the Dr took my word for it & didn't decide he wanted to go poking around & have a good nosey. They don't treat them with the usual creams etc as they contain things they prefer to avoid in pregnancy (local anaethetics etc) so they've prescribed lactulose to help & apparently they should improve on their own after the pregnancy (only 7wks or so to go!). I'm not good with medicines or things that taste funny, I've always preferred to take medicine in tablet form so I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of lactulose, what does it taste like & is there anything I can do to make it easier to take? I've read apparently mixing it with fruit juice can help so I might try that but wondered if any of you ladies had any experience :)

I was perscribed lactulose in the early weeks of my pregnancy because I was going every7/8 days :( its really not that bad to be honest just like drinking sugar. And thats coming from someone who can't drink flavoured tablets in water.

Its only very soft and takes a couple of days to get going so I suggest eating or drinking anything that normally helps you go so your pain eases quicker. Hope this helps :) It's funny, I was put on iron tablets once I got my rhythm back - notorious for making you constipated! TMI!! but actually since I went on them I'm more regular than the other 26 weeks of my pregnancy!

mrs_B I normally suffer with this anyway so pregnancy has made it much worse!

With lactulose I have a mug of drink on standby so I can take it and then swig straight away as sometimes it makes me feel a bit sick.

It bulks things out (TMI?) so you need to drink lots and lots of water as well - I've started setting my alarm every hour to remind me to drink as I wasn't getting enough.

I've also found that putting my legs up on a children's stool (one from Ikea for kids so they can go toilet) helps << my brother-in-law who is a consultant and watches people poop for a living (!) told me this trick, helps with a kink in the bowels or something?

I try not to strain - though this doesn't always work - and now I'm at home it's much easier. I can go when I want to, rather than worrying at work about when I'll have the urge!

Now when I go it's starting to make me feel sick :( I think that's because Walnut has dropped and everything is a bit squished down there :/

Diet wise, I've got gestational diabetes as well so can't have all the fruit I was eating - instead I'm on brown bread, brown rice and eating lots of veg + also red meat because my iron is low - but I can't take iron tablets as unlike Mrshaworth2b they do bung me up!!!

Hope not TMI for everyone - sorryyyyy!!

hello ladies. just been catching up on the posts and no information is too much as we all learn from it. :)

Yay! Big congrats MissKeith. what a story.. I am that person who is extremely scared of pain so if i had a birth like yours, i would be sooo pleased. lol. well sort of. hehehe. well dh said he was impressed me with last night (thanks) as he could see me anxious and the midwife had said so, so instead of calming me down he was telling me to man up. so i snapped at him. lol. then when i had the speculum in me (and i hate those things) he again said to try and calm down so i told him off and in front of the midwife made sure he knew what men think is so easy. hehe.. mean of me, but they have no clue!!! anyway to calm down when that thing went in me, i just started breathing lol. .Imagine me freaking out with that thing going in me, how i will be calm when baby comes out only god knows.. lol. i am sure i will cope. i will have to hey?

good luck marta and jonno. hope all goes well. was nice to finally have someone on here with a 12.12.12 baby. woo hoo. dh thought it would be us but sadly not..

i feel a toothache coming.. eek..:( still have this stupid cold and i cant sleep well so slept a few hours extra in the morning as dh came downstairs to work from home. we are off for dinner later witj friends so looking forward to that. better wash up as the dishes have been there for days now. .sigh. hope everyone is ok. xxx
