That's excellent paddyrg, love it :D
I could do with some when I go into town at the weekends. There's one area in town where the chuggers hang out so if I get some of these flyers I can walk through that area with confidence, instead of skirting round the edge, trying not to make eye contact. :rotfl:

I just smile politely at the chuggers and say No Thank You.

As far as the charity collectors go, I make a point now of not taking my purse, only my card.

At Christmas, there were 4 seperate charites outisde and 2 lots inside. 1 packing bags and one ratting tins. I give to charity on a SO basis so I'm gonna walk straight past them all.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Just ignore them or whilst they hassle another customer you walk straight past, not that hard. Even just say a simple No thanks is sufficient.

But how many times do you have to say it before it gets irritating?

To be honest it's not too bad where I am and as for the chuggers in central London they really do get the message after being being told no and never ask twice for some reason. :A

But my MIL lives in Kent and I find it particularly bad in Folkestone when we take her shopping. Not Chuggers as such but there seems to be a charity collection tin pushed under your nose at every turn, and then theres alway someone collecting in Asda's foyer.
Then as if that wasn't enough there's the local scout/ Guide/ whatever group trying to pack your shopping for you.
    Enough already!

Were these 'proper' chuggers i.e. those people who normally acost you in the street and try to get you to sign direct debits for different charities every week or were they people collecting for charity?

Was it really hassle or did they just rattle their tin/bucker or maybe say 'would you like to give to xx charity, please sir'.

I find there's a difference - although I do hate someone rattling a tin under my nose.

They were proper Chuggers, no tin or bucket. It was the usual 'how are you today?' nonsense.

They were in your face, standing in the middle of the exit. Of course everyone was trying to avoid them, trolleys were being bashed etc.

    Its really not on

I donate significant amounts each year. I am tax efficient and all donating is pre planned and gift aided. I discuss it annually with accountant.

If I am chugged I remove the charity for 12 months. If I am telephoned I remove for 5 years ( I never give permission for my number to be used in this way).

I gave about £10k to barnados. They cold called me despite this being acondition of donating. I assumed it was to thank me and invite me to an event (I don't do events) but no it was to hassle me to give more. I no longer give to them.

Have you had a chat with the store manager - customers complaining about chuggers saying it's getting to the point when they will shop elsewhere will get their attention pretty quickly

I find a polite no thankyou with a smile, and carry on walking does the trick myself

When you get 'pounced upon' by them up to 4 times a day, (an everyday experience where I work in Richmond) it starts to wear thinner than their sincerity.

Sometimes it is that hard. Countless times I've been followed down the street by them after my polite "no thank you", or they follow trying to engage my children in conversation. No sooner have you shaken one of them off, the next one steps out in front of you, then you have to finish your shopping and return back down the high street to go through the same thing again. I really wish it was as simple as a polite "No thank you"
