hi can some one help me please if you are working doing a normal job can i sign up to this textbroker

Are you planning on using the same writing style as you've used for your posts here, or can you write differently for TB?

Yes, it is possible to be employed and have self-employed income at the same time. Look at the HMRC website for guidance.

Sorry if this has been already answered, but I couldn't find a clear answer myself on this thread, but what subject(s) are you expected to write about for your sample/registration article? I gather this is rather vital to your success...!

I've just received this email from Textbroker about some of the fees that they'll be paying in future .....
    Dear Textbroker Authors

Change is inevitable, and this summer Textbroker are happy to announce that we’re making some very important changes for you: We will now be paying you more for your texts.

Doing good work should pay: Because Textbroker has invested so much over these last years, striving to provide more orders for our authors and better texts for our clients, it’s now become necessary to adjust our prices to reflect this effort. We also recognise that the demands on you as an author have risen, which is why you, too, should be able to profit from the change in prices. To that end, we are increasing the amount authors receive for their work.

Initially, the increase will only affect prices for TeamOrders and DirectOrders placed by newly-registered clients:

    • DirectOrder: You, the author, determine the price per word yourself and independently of your quality rating.
o Minimum of 1.5 cents per word (plus 30% processing fee for Textbroker)
o DirectOrders placed by newly-registered clients (as of 01.07.2013) are charged at a rate of 1.62 cents per word. (plus 35% processing fee for Textbroker).

    • TeamOrder: These can be chosen according to the author’s interests and/or areas of expertise. It is possible to take part in (at times, long-term) projects as well. The price per word is determined by the client.
o Remuneration for TeamOrders is at least 1.37 cents per word (plus 30% processing fee for Textbroker)
o TeamOrders placed by newly-registered clients (as of 01.07.2013) are charged at a rate of 1.43 cents per word. (plus 35% processing fee for Textbroker).

The price increase does not affect any of your existing client relationships, nor any agreed-upon DirectOrder prices nor the remuneration of a team you are currently writing for. These updated conditions apply only to clients registered after July 1, 2013.

We will announce in good time of any changes to the remuneration of OpenOrders as soon as the standard pricing scheme for all OpenOrders has been set.

Depends on how you define 'hammers' - if your friend isn't paying any tax at the moment, and their current earnings plus TB earnings don't take them over the first tax threshold, they pay no tax.

If earnings are in the first taxable band, they've already had their tax-free allowance, and are paying tax already on the excess over that. Any TB earnings are therefore taxable at the rate applicable to this band.

In my brief experience with TextBroker, once you are assigned a 3* "status" then you're pretty much screwed.

You can only get a higher rating by getting articles ranked by the client but 3* jobs come in so rarely that I lost patience after a month.

Bear in mind you will be in competition with 4* writers also.

A few weeks ago I was rated as three stars on my sample and I haven't found any jobs yet.

I was asked to write about my home town or a favourite shop. I chose to write about a shop.

Thanks for the response and apologies for the delay in replying, it's a while since I visited the forum and I don't seem to be receiving email notifications.

I know that I'm perfectly capable of writing well and, as I mentioned in my original post, my guess is that I went rather overboard on the piece I submitted. Is it possible to submit additional test pieces in an attempt to achieve a higher score?
  • A client has requests images which are under creative license - having written the article, I realise I am not too sure what this actually means. Could anyone recommend a site where I can find these images. Many thanks in advance.
