I can bring my collection of solar powered lamps, pickling jars and cookery, DIY, prepping and gardening books
OH is good at making and building things, and doing repairs. We have a big trailer to put everything in

Now, islands - I do actually know how to climb palm trees to harvest dates, so if you could see your way clear to somewhere with palm trees :rotfl:(though I realise this would be a disappointing bug-out location for those who have stockpiled flannel sheets...)0 -
I've just eaten some chocolate0

Nothing wasted Herbily, make flannalette sheets into drawstring bags to hang the beer *cough cough* fruit juice in the cool waters of the stream ready for lunch, or breakfast I mean you get really thirsty in paradise. Think its going to have to be a bloomin big island and yes sailing skills may be an advantage.Clearing the junk to travel light

I will get my caravan0 -
Evening all.
Thank you all so much for the lovely welcome, it was like a big hug and a cup of cocoa.
I would love to join the island, IOM sounds good as my DS lives there and adores it so he could put in a good word for us. My Oh has degree in horticulture and City and Guilds in something else to with soily things ( thats not soily liked soiled nappies!! yuk).
I have bought a sewing machine but we havent got past just looking at each other so far. Who would have thought a sewing machine could be so good at dirty looks. It can smell my fear!

Can I come to the island? but only if we can have a seperate one for the kids!
On a practical side I can grow veg, look after livestock, trap game, cut up/dress game &, chickens, goats, sheep, pigs ( havent done a bullock yet!,) milk a goat, sew, cook, preserve, forage and can shoot the balls off a gnat at 50yards or more ! LOL
I also have a bad temper when anyone invades my space or attempts to "liberate" something of mine ,recently sent a van load of "young men" packing when they came on the farm yard looking for scrap and any thing else! Woman with 12 bore and attitude= scary! therefore defense and security would also be no problem for me! I'll bring my collies one is excellent working dog and her pup good guard dog but useless sheep dog!
pehaps we would need another island to keep the men on! My friend always said they should be kept in a cupboard and only brought out when DIY needed, heavy lifting or one other use!!!

Greenbee has already posted the potential problem.Hello all,
Please can I come to the island? I know how to make a power-less fridge from terracotta pots and damp sand, choc melting problem solved!!! I cook, bake, garden, sew, will have a go at anything, DS is good at wood chopping and shooting, crazy doggie isn't very sociable so may have to leave her behind tho.
I don't think you can make terracotta pots big enough
We'd need somewhere that can grow sugarcane to keep Mar happy, may I suggest Madeira?0 -

I have other uses; I cook, my dressmaking is a little rusty, am fairly good with farm animals (except goats), can butcher meat and tan hides, though probably my most useful attribute is that I make a convenient resting point for cats.0
