Things I miss from my last job (Alzheimers Society) - the cameraderie, being able to make a difference in peoples lives - and a salary! :j
Another good job was covering the North of England advising special needs horticultural projects. But it was totally spoilt by a very driven line manager. A typical example being when I was down in Reading for a team meeting, back at 11pm with a boot load of resources to unload, up at 6am for a meeting in Hull - and on coming out of the meeting a call from her asking if I had done x, y or and z yet.. She totally knew my schedule. She would even send emails during my leave (knowing I couldn't resist taking a peep) saying 'when you are back we need to.....'. In the end I left.

VJsMum, I like your attitude. It's funny how when you stop taking so stuff seriously, you can often progress. It amuses me to collect the latest fashion in office-speak and to be sure to deploy it in the rare meetings I get to attend, to make it seem that I'm earnest and playing attention. I award myself points for how many times I either hear or can deploy the latest jargon.

I call that Bull$h!t bingo :rotfl:

Write a list of words and tick off every time you hear them (you know "outside the box", "holistic", "green", "sustainable", and my personal pet hate "synergies" ) - when you get them all yell "bingo" - if you dare. I did dare once - and the boss had the grace to laugh. I did convince him that I must have been listening though.

ANother one is song titles, see how many you can get in "millennium" has probably had its day now, but was good value for a while, "don't look back in anger", "sound and vision" "knock on wood",

    I told you it's best I don't go to meetings anymore! :D

I'll come to the island. i am in the building trade so can teach you how to build and tell you how to cost it (I am a Quantity Surveyor) - can't actually build it though. Never could get the mortar on the trowel. I am quite bossy so could get you organised. I'm a fair to middling cook and a will get on with whatever I'm given.

It'll have to be a warm one though - none of your cold dark scottish ones I'm afraid. I am liking the sound of Bermuda with a sweet shop. And I'll have to take some make up.....

    :D

If we're bringing assorted pooches et al, perhaps the I$le of Canines might be a better proposition

I was at an Alzheimer's Society training session and the earnest but boring trainer was asking how we would feel if we woke up to find a stranger undressing us. I knew what she was getting at but norty pineapple couldn't resist. 'Grateful!' I shouted (tongue in cheek nat). You could have heard a pin drop, then the room erupted and she never did get back on track..... :rotfl:.

  • No of course not, you're one of us so of course you can come, we can be tomboys together and learn now to harvest coconuts from palm trees, gotta make a living somehow. If we could just come up with a way of keeping the chocolate from melting we'd be very popular though, I seem to remember reading that the early american pioneers had coolers that were tightly fitting lidded boxes that were tethered and left in running streams which kept the contents cool, could we modify that idea do you think?
