Anyone ever heard of cubital tunnel syndrome? Evidently the consultant thinks that I have it in both arms in addition to carpal tunnel in both hands, it has taken over 5 years to get a correct diagnosis  Just waiting for an appointment for an emg test then I have to go back and see the consultant on 10th June.

On a lighter note..........I blew coffee out of my nose on this;)

They have no idea how liberating it is not to be tied to a box in the corner.

    It is liberating.

My local authority call centre is liberally-peppered with management refugees, a happy band of reprobates who have escaped from proper jobs in big business or education and just enjoy clocking on and clocking off and not carrying any baggage out of work hours. The stories they tell from the coalface are a constant source of horror and wonderment to me. And the salaries weren't that much better than ours, either.

Reeeeeaaaalllyyy... Please tell me more about the job (by PM if you don't want to put too much out into the public domain), I am in education and the pointless, useless, excessive paperwork and the beaurocracy (you're a square peg, we know that, but you MUST now fit into this round hole - consistency in the sausage factory, don't ya'know...) are all on a steep skyward trend since Ofsted *spits* deemed the school to be failing. The resultant increase in headless chickening and knee jerk 'solutions' by TPTB is not doing my mental health any good at all, plus the department I work for looks like it might possibly be doomed to a snip if the school is academised. Real pity, the job used to be one I actually loved, making a real difference to youngsters in a lot of trouble, working with some of the most laid back, easy going people you could imagine.

A clock on, clock off job, talking to people, with similar money to what I'm on now sounds like it would be just up my street! I can even manage angry customers if necessary - when working in a restaurant/bar in my teens I'd always be sent to placate the annoyed ones! I think it's because it takes an awful lot to make me angry enough to react angrily back... Same trait is often needed when dealing with teengers with behavioural difficulties!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

Hello all, been MIA as I have been busy in the garden trying to catch up on veg planting now winter has hopefully b*ggered off! Really funny that so many of you hate clothes shopping, can I add my name to the list? I hate most shopping unless it is yellow sticker shopping last thing at night in Sainsbugs or CS/Bootsales.
I also have a work "persona" as I work as an accounts manager part time in a credit union and have to be smart and professional. I have black trousers, smart tops and jackets that I keep just for the couple of days I am in the office. For the rest of the time on the farm I am scruff with jeans and fleeces. Very few of my work colleagues would recognise me if they saw me on the farm!!
I havent really added to my preps although I am reading loads of doomsday books, currently Patriots by James Wesley Rawles. It is OK bit detailed on the weaponry (bit of a gun nut I think) but good for info regarding things I havent thought of. I think it is very extreme based in USA after hyper inflation with looters/gangs etc etc.

Anyway keep safe everyone ELaine X

  • Isn't it interesting that so many of us have different persona's - one for the wider world (work, merging in etc.) and the one we have at home and online here ;)

I too have to be 'smartly dressed' at work - little do they know that my outfits often cost less then £5 and that my makeup is of the 3 for £5 variety found in the natural range at B00ts :D Bought a suit last week for £2 (CS) because it needs the pocket stitching up on the jacket.

The 'home me' is make-up less, old clothes for working in the garden and totally comfortable in the me that I am :D OH is just the same - though he has a uniform provided (a pair of overalls :D).

We have both moved out of stressful jobs - and love that we don't bring work home, do emails late at night or wake up in the early hours worrying about work. We work to live (well at least to pay off the mortgage) - we don't live to work. So we now simply work to earn enough to give us the life that we want - which isn't to keep up with the Joneses :D When we get home, our time is ours. And we don't mind the hours we put into prepping, gardening and planning for our future ;)

    Hi everyone,

Welcome to newbies and glad you had a productive excursion Mrs L

In my youth I used to love dressing up and wearing make-up, but have dramatically reduced to no make-up, except a bit of mascara and lip-gloss if I'm going out somewhere special(a rare occurrence these days). I've even stopped using soap and just wash with water (apart from the...ahem ...pits 'n' bits if you'll pardon the expression:D) if you don't plaster your face in make up your skin is remarkably good at cleaning itself and just needs a rinse to get rid of the surface grime. My skin has never felt in better condition. And last time I bought new clothes was for DD1s wedding nearly 4 years ago now. DD2 is getting married next year so I'm on the lookout for CS gems, hopefully I'll find something if I start looking now:D I went to a colleague's wedding a couple of years ago and wore a lovely dress that cost £1 from a boot sale:D. I do like dresses but don't like shaving my legs so it's not a good look - I tend to wear them with leggings or woolly tights:), or around the house and yard where nobody sees.

I have acquired a water tank from next door - who have refurbished their bathroom, so I'm planning to use it for the aquaponics experiment. Helen (I think it was you) if you're around how are you getting on with your aquaponics experiment??

I'll catch up properly later but hello to all & sundry in the meantime

I hate clothes shopping too. Many moons ago for brother's wedding I had to be smart & outfitted n a weddingy style but therein lies the problem. I have the build of a brick sh*thouse and am a tomboy . But once more DH to the rescue. He works in a supermarket & if a customer complains that their clothes were caught/damaged or otherwise by fixtures & fittings then the customers are given funds equivalent to the clothing but have to hand the clothing in. Wummin in a trouser suit that was my size put in a claim, got her money - & guess what I wore to the wedding:o

Finally a day without snow! The snow tyres are off the cars for the next five months.

The city has dug up the road in front of my house to change the water pipes. So we have no running water today. Multiple jugs and pitchers around the house and reminder of don't flush!!! Roll on 5pm when the water comes back on.

I hunt thrift stores for uniforms. Nurses over here have to provide their own uniforms unless they work in two specific units. Dresses are harder and harder to find, so whenever I pass a thrift/charity store, I have a hunt round. My last three new dresses cost less than $15 for the lot. I look like a chubby box if I wear scrubs.

I'm not even trying to grow veg this year. The ground is still frozen. I'll be happy if my rhubard makes it up this year!

    Evening chaps! :D

Sorry haven't caught up with all posts but hi to all new members and love to all existing! :)

Looking forward to shifting all our gear to new cottage on Friday, eeee! Although mildly stressed about the logistics of it all... Gah.

Found an amazing CS near where I'm working temporarily - got us two sets of drawers for the bedroom, a replacement mattress for our old place (we're taking ours with us, got rid of the second hand one it came with), and an electric Singer sewing machine all for 45 quid. Yup, 45, not a typo! Bargains or what?! :D

Now I just need to learn how to use a sewing machine...! OH's mum is good with a sewing machine, but sadly between her English and my Slovenian we don't get much further than establishing whether I would like breakfast and that she is going to walk to the church! :) One day, must crack on with learning...

In the new place, we have an open fire, wahey! My parents have an open fire and use coal with theirs, which causes no end of dust and of course the coal smell. Personally, I love the smell of a coal fire, but OH is not so keen. We were thinking of using wood, but Mum tells me that it burns very quickly, won't keep in overnight as you can't bank it up and of course gets very expensive as a result. I've been looking at smokeless coal, not sure what to make of it...

Can anyone give me advice on what is best to use? Dust, expense and smell to be taken into consideration please, ta! :P Oh also storing it... I hope to store some outside in a waterproof container, but we have a small bit of loft space so thinking of stacking some in there, y'know, in case SHTF! ;)

SO looking forward to being able to start my stocks again once we're settled. Also can start sorting through my survival gear and working out what I need to get more of.

    xx
