DD has noticed an increase in people stealing from the C0-0p. Baby milk is popular because it costs so much as is meat. They now keep all their meat in a locked freezer and people have to ask to get it out as people steal to order, especially at Christmas and Easter:eek:

As for the people getting stuck on the motorway. This happened to me a good few years ago and was one of the most frightening experiences. I now make sure I carry the essentials including a port-potti as that was the worst thing :eek::eek: I never go anywhere without double supply of my medicines.
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I just read that Red Bull extreme surfing team have organised a big event in Ireland on Monday as they expect surf of ..... 50 FOOT WAVES to hit the west coast of Ireland.....blimey that is a huge wave size! They have had torrential rain and many of the roads are flooding and there have been some landslides in the south. Those winds and that huge amount of rain is heading to the UK tonight and tomorrow.....take care folks!

It begs the question would you steal food if you or your kids were starving and had no other option? Absolutely I would - but my back would really, really have to be against the wall.
I'm sure we will see a lot more crime generally in the next year or so - sadly some of it will be by hungry, desperate people and it is indeed shocking - but some of it will be by those who are not prepared to forego their Sky subscription or other lifestyle 'essentials'.
  • Butterfly Brain is that not just the saddest thing we've read in a long time? There can be nothing worse than not being able to feed your children
  • HI all
Feeling a bit delicate today, our beloved old puddy cat died this morning:(, I know there are worse things happening in people's lives, but feeling like poop anyway.

On a prepping note, Ive moved some supplies in the garage, so that the new tins etc can go to the back of the pile.

The weather is a bit bizarre today, sun is shining and all the snow has melted, it just doesn't feel right. However on a positive note Ive managed to get some washing out, plus ive been able to have a look round the garden to see what is still growing :o.
    Hope you all stay safe
    Hugs WLL x

I think there is no doubt about it that I would steal to feed my children, having said that, it would come long after going out foraging and hunting for whatever I could find.

Crime here has increased a lot and yes, some of it is just food that is stolen. But there has been a huge increase in break ins and thefts. One last week saw a couple who have lived here for years waking up and finding three hooded men with guns in the house. Following the true report of someone being gassed to make them sleep through a robbery this a scary thing to have to confront.

We had a lot of problems with people running over our roof and other roofs in the village in order to get through the village without being seen, during the early hours of the morning. Following an incident where a neighbour confronted three men armed with a big axe when he arrived home , the armed police were called in and blocked off the village and searched for them. No one was caught and we now have a 24/7 patrol in the village, its gone very quiet.

We now have barbed wire on the roof and two registered weapons in the house.....and yes, I would shoot if they broke into the house while I was there.

  • Hi all
Forgot to say earlier that we bottled up some demijohns of hedgerow wine last night. Really chuffed with how they taste and look, so we now have 6 x pear wine, 12 x rhubabrb and 6 x elberberry and bramble, so if the snow does return I may have to open a bottle or two (would be rude to offer some to visitors if we haven't done some quality control:D).

  • The S has most definitely HTF round here. Thought I had a great new full-time permanent job when I started in October. As of yesterday that is no longer the case. I might be lucky to hang onto a day's work a week until I can find something else. To say I'm feeling heartbroken and totally defeated is an understatement.
