It looks like the UK and Ireland are going to get waves of storms bringing high winds, snow or torrential rain from the west. My friend sent me this, it shows the waves of low pressure storms/high winds sweeping across the UK. The Uk is a bit hard to see but its near the top right...the sequence will keep repeating. The time from this morning onwards is show at the top...looks really nasty.....take care folks!

Got the most awful blizzard and heavy heavy snow. I feel like Dan McGrew up in the Yukon

But where would you mind him at this time of night? LOL

Hang on in there Mardatha...we are all with you in spirit....speaking of spirits make yourself a hot toddy...it will cheer you up no end.....

I have been reading the weather forums and a lot of people are getting stuck in snow in both Ireland and Scotland..its not going to help at all when the winds get up even more. Have a look at the storm map I just posted, this is the first of three such storms...the one on Monday looks worse at the moment....... pass the chocolate!

Westlothianlass:- I can't do 'small' handbags! I carry far to much [STRIKE]carp[/STRIKE]stuff! :rotfl:
Alibobsy:-I'm pleased your OH had a sensible nurse to talk to. He has come away with a clearer picture of the situation and can be prepared to help his parents and SiL. Any addiction, no matter what substance, affects the way the sufferer sees and behaves towards other people. They are very secretive and many choose to isolate themselves rather than display their problem to their families. Nobody can 'fix' another person if they do not want to be 'fixed', his behaviour was something beyond all your control.:grouphug:

Very, very cold here today, to the extent that the falling snow lay instantly on to the wet road! It didn't melt in! The wind is making it colder and is drifting the snow off the fields on to the roads. :(
I'm a bit concerned about the snow on our roof, it has not fallen off the south facing side yet never mind the north facing one! It's melted a bit but it's still a good eight inches deep. Two years ago the snow ripped the guttering down on both sides of the house and I'm a bit uneasy about it happening again. I know it will be an insurance job but I'm a bit worried about what they will say over it happening again. I don't know if that sounds daft, I know I can't control the level of snow but it's as though they may say I have been negligent. :(

    Evening all.

((((ALI)))) I'm so sorry to hear that your BIL is so poorly but the others have told it how it is; you can't help someone who won't be helped. It's heartbreaking, but it's true.

I once worked a volunteer job with an older gentleman who'd straightened himself out from midlife alcoholism with the help of AA. Knowing him then, it was hard to believe that he'd ever been such a lost cause, but I will always recall how he put it; he gave up drinking because he kept losing things; his self-respect, his wife, the regard of his adult children, his home, his job. One day he got tired of being a loser of things and turned a corner but he had to hit rock bottom before he'd face the facts, and that seems to be a universal truth.

Shoebox Towers is a very deprived area and a lot of my neighbours self-medicate emotional pain and general difficulties with alcohol. One is dying at the moment, and one has joined AA at SuperGran's instigation and we're holding our fingers crossed that they will stick with it and break their dependancy. There's an awful lot of it around.

Well, the much-promised snow has yet to materialise although it is absolutely bitter and I'm wearing my furry trapper hat whenever I'm out of doors and wishing I'd had one half a lifetime ago. Most excellent of headwear, worn by both genders and every age from tots to grandaddies.

This weekend's plans involve nothing more exciting than spending a bit of time with pals living within a few streets and maybe strolling to my allotment's compost Dalek as I have some containers of rotables growing a plush coat of grey fur in the fridge. Left much longer and they may develop sentience and climb out and get me.........:rotfl:

Keep tucked up in the warm and take care of yourselves if shovelling snow etc, as heavy exertion in cold weather can put a strain on your heart.

Some numpty cleared tyre width channels up our lane and dumped the snow and chunks of ice in the middle. Now I know what my car was scraping on yesterday . I didn't want the new stuff adding to the problem and have no confidence in a quick thaw so today I got blistered hands clearing it. But so far the predicted heavy snowfall has been non existent. We will probably wake up to a heatwave tomorrow and the neighbours owe it all to me. :D
As for the demon drink, an Aussie ex was an alcoholic and it was one of the reasons we split as I just couldn't cope. It wasn't even so much him wanting to spend every waking moment in a bar or attached to a bottle, it was the terrible moodiness inbetween.
  • Thanks WESTCOASTSCOT I didn't mean it to be anything but a rallying call amidst the gloom and doom that is everyday thrust at us by the media!!! Me I'm an optimist and I believe in people, I believe we are all a lot stronger than we think and I believe that we are much better at floating and surviving than we are at giving in and sinking. I believe also that collectively we are an awful lot stronger than standing alone and we are all supporting each other here, it makes me warm inside to see how everyone is valued, consoled, given help and guidance whenever they are having problems or crises' You are brilliant, each and every one of you, proud to be a part of something so good!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.
