They are saying petrol will increase by 4p a litre soon. And food is now very expensive too.

Quite probably cabbage soup, a la Charlie & the Chocolate factory! Provided someone can get onto the soggy fields to harvest the cabbages? Just at the moment, staying in bed all day like Charlie's grandparents seems almost like a good idea. Cosy...

Alibobsy, I'm hoping that your BiL will pull through, in more ways than just physically, but please don't blame yourselves for his condition in any way; it's a well-worn path he's treading. Some do get off it, and fingers crossed he's one of them, but you only have to look at George Best's fate to realise that medical miracles aren't all that's needed. But it does seem that he has good family backup, which is the best possible foundation if he's really ready to sober up.

WCS I think we all know fine it is a depression, its all nit picking with words. I think now the price f petrol and diesel has gone up there will be a new round of price increases. Then all the changes in April. I think we going to end up living on soup :)

Aye seems worse even than the 70's? or maybe we're just not so resilient as a country.
Was reading about the fuel price hike - we're already high, so higher still then - guess that means coal will go up again, and food, and everything else.
I know cuts are planned right through to 2017 but I do wonder what else they can cut????
Not my usual optimistic self today - suspect chocolate is in order!!!!!!! :)

OH went with rest of family to see BIL in intensive care. They were allowed in 2 at a time fora few mins so SIL and MIL went in first. Then Oh and his Dad. The nurse spoke to OH and his Dad and said she was glad BIL's family had all seen him that morning. She also said he was on the max doses of drugs they can give-for pain/low blood pressure etc etc so they are running out of options. They had confirmed BIL is having kidney issues now and high levels of acid and other poisons in his blood. She said they would have to do emergency dialysis straight away, but he might not be strong enough to stay stable and that the dialysis could cause his vital signs to crash. She basically said without the dialysis he wouldn't survive, but it was risky to do it anyway. OH said she was really nice and sympathetic but the nurse was basically saying he is unlikely to survive in a roundabout way to prepare them. He says that his parents and SIL are in denial about the whole thing and keep talking about when he will be back on the normal ward. He is sedated, ventilated and basically full of tubes and needles.
OH said he shook BIL hand and gave him a hug and said goodbye when he left as he really can't see how he can come back from this, but where's there's life there's hope as they say.

Trying to get on with the day to day stuff, but it makes you give the kids that extra big hug when they cuddle up.

Going to make a comfort food tea, I have some nice sausages from the butchers and will make some lovely homemade mash to go with it and plenty of gravy so we can eat and cuddle up tonight whilst we wait and see what happens.

Keep safe in the bad weather wherever you are.

Hugs Ali....and to anyone else who feels the need for one.

Thank God I got the email sorted, the boss set me up a new email address that actually works and although its all in Greek (!!!!) it works a million times better and faster than the original one she gave me. She also apologised for all the hassle it gave me yesterday.

Personally, I have decided that if I can only afford one thing to live on, its going to be chocolate...anyone with me?

Our petrol has just gone down to 1.75 euros a litre...the heating oil is still at 1.45 so no one has bought any...they have lost 400 million euros in tax because we all boycotted their nasty little rip off scheme.

Gone very cold here, even with thermals and the fire on...I feel so chilly I don't actually want any dinner but I am heading for a huge mug of tea! ....and......its still bucketing down with rain!

It doesn't matter how dire and dark the situation gets girls,(and fellas too) we are so lucky to have the great fund of information, experience and ideas, not to mention feet on the floor common sense and imagination of all contributors to this and the tougher thread, whatever the problem, if there is a way to solve it, I am absolutely certain someone will have answers to most if not all of it. Yes it is getting tougher, but from all your posts and contributions it feels as if we are getting tougher and more innovative, determined and resilient too. Whatever happens, we have support here and I for one am mightily glad of it. Thanks everyone for making me feel that all will never ever be completely lost, you are a cracking bunch of allies, Cheers Lyn xxx.

Lovely words Lyn and heartfelt too. I am with you on that, I really appreciate the support and the fact that it feels like we are not alone. The weather alone is enough to make people feel desperate, never mind anything else! Worried in case we get snow or ice tonight or tomorrow as we are on top of the mountain...no snow ploughs here, or grit for that matter. I wouldn't have the nerve to go anywhere in ice or snow.

As it is a lorry shed diesel onto the road on the bad bends going down the mountain last week.Although the fire brigade put sawdust and sand on it to soak it up it will now have a good film of water on top and will be slicker than a skid pan........ we went past on the other side of the road today and you could still smell it really strong in the air. God help anyone who hits it unawares....

Have now got a fleece on my knee and fingerless gloves on to type in even though the fire is blazing and the curtains are all shut. If it gets any colder my fake fur trapper hat is going on and staying on!
