Reading Sky News headline I think I canny afford to eat anything but gruel. Fule prices to go up in the next few days and more doom & gloom on the economy.0

I know OH feels sad and almost like we shouldn't have let him push us away, but life gets in the way and with 4 kids things are so busy and he didn't just do it with us. Even his mum and dad rarely saw him for months and months. I guess for him the alcohol became all consuming.
Oh honey, this is such a sad story. I am a little concerned for one of my little brothers (of 41!) who drinks too much. Can I just say, though, that this isn't your fault - if he wanted to be pushed away he still would, despite your efforts. My own BIL committed suicide 3 years ago (not drinking - severe anxiety issues and a personality disorder) and for a little while my OH felt guilty about the distance that had grown between them. My BIL left 2 little kids behind - nothing my OH could have done would have made a difference if a man will leave his adored children - he was desperate.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Depending on which forecast you believe, it could start snowing here at 12 o'clock, 2 o'clock or 3 o'clock  Which probably means it will start at 11'oclock.
So I'm not going out. Besides, there's only me in my little hollowed out space in the car park and I'm paranoid that if I go out I'll find a cuckoo in the nest on my return .
The neighbours and I are a tad bemused at the forecast speed of the thaw set to follow. The snow is still deep in our Pennine hideaway and historically hangs around for a long time. If we get the possible 10-20cm we will need some heatwave/rain to get rid of it
I'm doing all my electrical jobbies now in case the power goes out. Food first then cleaning.

So sorry about your loss, its hard not to feel you could have done more, but I suppose its only after events come to a head back and see the signs of what was to come.
Looking back BIL always seemed to have casual work at some bar, club or pub alongside his main job. Often he would do extra hours where he was "paid in pints" and we definately knew he liked a drink, but had no idea he was on spirits as well, nor the quantities he was having.
MIL is really struggling and keeps saying she should have known, was devastated to hear him admit to the dr when first admitted that he was drinking from age 14/15.
MIl rang the hospital and they won't say much except he is stable currently. They are going up with OH just before lunch, but are only allowed to pop in and see him one at a time for a short period as he is in intensive care. They are giving SIL a lift as well. They want to get in and back before the predicted snow gets going.
Just started with some early flurries now, but as the previous snow had mostly defrosted apart from big lumps and the edges of lawns it will take a bit coming down to cause too many issues.

Another warning on BBC news about 'possible disruption to power supplies' - as the sort of snow that is due may stick to power lines.
Hope the rail companies have taken note - first they blame 'the wrong type of leaves', now they can blame 'the wrong type of snow'!0 -
hi everyone,
its miserable here, blowing a gale and banging a rain - we haven't had snow by the coast but its pretty grim!
our wee household is faced with fiscal uncertainty this year, with the possibility of job cuts/reduced pay/reduced hours (me) and the threat to the fishing quotas (youngest) - we're trying to do everything we can to cut spending but it gets hard when you're already cut to the bone doesn't it????
I read an interesting newspaper article the other day about whether we're actually in a depression or not but cannot find it now - did anyone else see it? I generally only read the BBC news and the Guardian, but can't find it on either of those
Anyway off to bake - cheer us up - and have a tidy round,
WCS0 -
Glad to hear you all sound prepared and reasonably ready...except for the sweeties! Naughty girls, now I want to go and make myself some sweeties and buttery biscuits...but I have to work online while I still have it.
Still pouring with rain here and its down to 8 degrees now. The cold front is coming in.....just hope it stops the non stop rain. We have floods starting now and the topsoil is being washed off the fields and vine yards. Not planning to go anywhere. My boss is about to phone me to try to explain why they have a crap email system at the business...good luck on that one. I am frustrated by it not working since I started trying to use it. I think all the others who work their use their own emails then forward the work to it...surely she must have noticed there were no emails after 15th November lol.......
Later peeps , take care xxxx“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
