I will post this when it becomes available...looks like it might be a good idea to plan a weekend at home if you are in the UK...get prepped again folks

This is from the UKweatherforecast page on Facebook

    A severe weather warning will be issued for Friday-Sunday tonight for the following conditions;

    - Heavy snow and Blizzard conditions (Northern areas in particular)
    - Gale force, possibly severe winds
    - Rapid thaw of snowfall combined with heavy rain leading to surface flooding and river flooding.

This is a serious spell of weather coming up, myself and Kris will be discussing this in detail tonight and will launch a warning and detailed forecast tonight.

To stay up to date and receive accurate information and forecasts leading up to and during this severe spell of weather like our page.

    Please share.

Snow all gone here now, apart from the mortal remains of Mr. Bernard the 6' snowman, who is still presiding over some very puzzled bantams. So time to take stock, see how we coped & what needs sorting before the next time we're immobilised by a bit of weather! I'm horrified to admit - we ran out of tea! In our case it's hardly disastrous, with a supermarket 200 yards away if I can bring myself to use it, but I'm looking on this as a trial run for living more rurally, which I hope will be the case sometime in the next couple of years.
Otherwise, we hardly made a dent in the supplies; I'm trotting off today to restock one or two items that I'd have had to get nowabouts anyway, but we'd have coped perfectly well without them if we'd had to.

Still plenty of snow 'off piste' here.
Got my car out of the parking area and made it up the lane but with an ominous crunching. Had it coming back down again and realised it was the snow in the centre of the lane meeting the bottom of the car.
Hope I haven't damaged me undercarriage :rotfl:.
Anyway I'm back now and the only non 4wd that has made it out and back.
    Let it snow.

As said elesewhere on MSE some SHITF has arrived as a letter has dropped on the mat telling me that my utility prices are going up at the end of march even though I use very little of either gas or electric and I had signed up to a duel fuel deal that meant prices were frozen until the end of October '13.

The excuses given are the new taxes and Government policies but I thought when you were locked into one of these deals prices could not be raised unti the end of the contracted period of time. Otherwise what is the point of the deal? I signed up to freeze the prices for a little while.

I am surprised that they can do this(or should I be)I wonder if others tied into similar deals with other utility companies are being affected or it is just mine.

They say I can save £175 annually if my loft is insulated(it is)and I have cavity wall insulation and if they keep raising their prices I won't notice any savings.

So with the bedroom tax and now this I will have to find extra money or try to economise still further from March/April. If things stay as they are I can probably manage, if income changes it will be panic stations...

No wonder many are worried. I never get anything good in the mail so I hate it when I hear the mail arrive.

Glad that you are safely home Pineapple. Hope the car is ok.

Pops I would ask about this in the utilities forum. It sounds odd to me. A fixed price is a fixed price - unless you're me. I 'fixed' mine at a percentage below the going rate then realised it could still go up. Dohh...
Money eh? Got a shock today when I got to civilisation and found I had less money than I thought I had, so rushed to bank to get a print out and spent the last hour trying to work out where the money had gone. Yes folks it's official. The person who has been pilfering my account - is me. :(

What I hate about the UK at the moment is that the goal posts keep changing. We reduce our power, they put the prices up! My thoughts are that when the Govt. were *encouraging* us to save energy, the energy suppliers (read Share Holders) didn't like it as they get less money coming in, so easy answer - increase prices! So, people reduce consumption even further - energy suppliers raise prices again. Its a never ending cycle that the customer is never going to win. Why bother reducing consumption if they are just gonna raise prices anyway? we should have all just kept using the amount we used and !!!!!! global warming and all that crap. Its cost us all in the end with ever increasing prices. I am sick to the back teeth of the power companies. I have two properties that I have to pay power bills on and in the 8 years I have owned 2 homes my monthly costs via direct debit have doubled. Insanity and annoys me a lot. I feel for you! Your costs are rising monthly and amount coming in everyone is trying to reduce (benefits, employers, Govt.) how are we all supposed to manage in this country. No wonder so many emigrate to get the hell away.

Sorry, power companies are my pet hate!

Sorry you are going through this x

Cross on your behalf about the price hikes; they can find a way to weasel out of anything, it seems. But if you tried? No way!

I have a feeling this has been suggested before, but please don't shoot me down: have you considered taking a lodger? You can earn up to about £80 a week tax-free by letting a single room. I wouldn't have considered it before but ended up with one for other reasons, and now the lad is ready to stand on his own two feet & has found good accommodation closer to his work, we're really going to miss him! It's been fun, and should my circumstances ever change, I wouldn't hesitate to do it again, choosing carefully & making sure all the i's were dotted & t's crossed legally. I know some people's circumstances don't allow sub-letting, but if you can wangle it somehow, it's a good way of earning a bit extra. Not to mention good to have some company (on your own terms!) and someone else looking out for you.

Unfortunately where companies charge two different rates on one tarif, ie a more expensive base rate up to a certain level of consumption, and a cheaper rate for units over that level - they have been known to put increases onto the base rate - which somewhat thwarts people's attempts to economise. :(

Thank you Pineapple, Surburbanwifey and Thriftwizard,
If I could downsize, I save paying the new bedroom tax but it could cost the Government/councils more by me moving but there are few if any properties available and what may be are horrible/in bad locations...though some will say you still have a roof over your head.

Had I been older(and they don't change the goalposts before I am)and I can ride out the next 6 years I will not have to pay the BT.

I rent from an HA they say I'll be worse off by having a lodger(but it can be done)but as it will affect the benefits the idea is not probably a goer...but if it all goes wrong and benefits change anyhow perhaps the lodger idea could be an option again.

So the next few months will be interesting and frightening. If things could stay as they are it is tight but possible to manage...
