Here is an update....there are some nice pictures of the forecast European maps for 28th January and an explanation of what they mean.

I will go back and read all your posts in a bit when I have time to catch up. I hope you are all well, warm and happy wherever you are.

We had horrendous gale force winds in the night that were slamming shutters up the street (ours were locked shut) but no more rain thank goodness. We had some storm clouds on top of the mountain but the sun came out at nine and is still out...its currently 19 degrees in the sun.....oooohhh Yeeahhhhhh......my washing is out on the line for the first time in weeks and the washer is on again for the delicates...which are also going on the line to dry in the light , warm breeze.

All the fields and vineyards are water logged and just can't hold any more water. Let's hope we have a few days respite from it so they can dry out a little bit.

Blizzard here again... *Yawn* Now waiting for ensuing floods. ;)

Mrs Persil the squirrel has returned. Yay! :D Good to see her back on the bird table.

Other than that, I've been occupying myself doing my tax return. I was very impressed to find HMRC's helpline happily open at 8am this morning, when I called with a couple of queries. Pretty much all done now which is a bonus. And the final figure tallies with what I was expecting, so that's also good.

I have 4 more days of chocolate on current rations, so here's hoping that Friday doesn't bring too much more of the white stuff.

Thought we had gotten off lightly with the weather after friday and mondays issues. Things started defrosting yesterday with quite a bit of sun, so felt cold but the snow/ice was seriously melting, although the kids snowman is still stood there lol.

Kids all in school this morning and it was cold but clear. But here we are again, and despite no met office or tv weather prediction about it, the snow is coming down. I suppose it depends on how long it lasts really, but all this stop start business is a pain lol.

DD1 will be annoyed as she has one of her gymnastic sessions after school today and will NOT be happy if it gets cancelled.

OH is at the hospital with his mum again to see BIL. He is now sat up and eating/talking, but he is seriously not right. OH says its like speaking to an older person with dementia type issues, he keeps forgetting who people are and names, keeps saying he has to go to work, go for a walk, get to the pub. He has begged them all for booze then forgets what he has said. He also keeps talking to "people" in the corner of the room or on the ceiling. He starting crying last week saying his wife would leave him as he was so ill and she "won't want me anymore if I can't work".

MIL and FIL keep repeating its just the withdrawal and he will be ok, but OH says he thinks this is more permanent as it has been so long since he first went in and drs warned them there was a high risk of brain damage.
So sad. The Dr said last week BIL's years of depression were likely caused by the alcohol and he was in a vicious circle of drinking-get depressed, go to GP-get pills, feel worse so drink more-back to GP-higher dose and so on for YEARS. The specialist didn't say directly , but strongly implied the GP should have surely noticed something rather than endlessly writing prescriptions.

    keep safe and warm guys

That is so sad, wishing only good things and that things will be better than feared at present.

Sorry to learn about this but suggest someone asks the doctors about alcohol induced dementia.

They may not be able to tell yet though, as depression also affects recall. Until they get that stabilised they may not be able to work out how much poor memory is a result of depression and how much is booze.

Poop, just got an email from DS's school he has been given a lunchtime detention for "not obeying instructions". Blummin teenagers.

He is mostly a good lad, but soooooo lazy and we had a few instances in the last year or so when he was given breaktime/lunchtime detentions for "low level disruption" in his case talking and giggling with his mates. He had been told under no circumstances was he to get any more detentions this year and to sort it out and knuckle down to study. Over Christmas both Grans and my Dad had, had little chats to him and he swore to us all he understood how important his exams were and he would work harder........
TBH even from primary the teachers refrain with him has been he is extremely intelligent, BUT will only work when its something he is enjoying-this is when he ends up top of the class, otherwise he is middle of the class for everything and "doing just enough to get by".

He was asked if he would run for the school, but couldn't be bothered  arggg.

Going to ring school to find out exactly what happened. Do you think taking his phone,ps3 and computer access off him for say the rest of the week sounds reasonable? We have given him chances before and I really thought we were getting through to him at Crimbo. But I suppose it could be worse.

I think this maybe what they are waiting to find out, they definately talked about brain damage from the years of drinking and his body is still badly bloated from liver/kidney issues. OH seemed to think after 3 wks off the booze his body should be out of "the dts" as the in laws call it, but who knows. His pancreas is definately badly damaged and so he will likely have/develop diabetes so they say, its looking like he has lost his job and its unclear if he will ever work again.

Good job OH went today as its gone from sunny and patches of grass in amongst the snow left to almost a blizzard now.
I am begining to dislike 2013 already and it's hardly begun :(.

Still good news is despite car insurance renewal being £600 I used the search sites to get a policy for £150 yay and OH spoke to virgin yesterday about leaving because of their price increases and negotiated a package over £20 a month cheaper.

Snow is hammering down now despite the met office STILL showing no snow here.

Damn and blast we are back on a dangerous storm warning again here...from tomorrow morning. Its still gorgeous outside and sunny and warm.....I don't believe the weather this year! I feel like going into hibernation.....they are also saying we have a strong chance of snow over the weekend between thunderstorms........but its 19 at the moment outside.

Getting lots of reports on the Atlantic storm that may hit the UK and Ireland towards the weekend.......its not looking good at all. Do you want me to post the maps etc and updates as I get them?

Stay warm and safe everyone...and feel free to have extra chocolate on my behalf....perhaps I should go and buy myself some...this weather is driving me batty!
