Fruball if others are interested in the South of England there is this place, Lower Shaw Farm, near Swindon, they mostly have workshop weekend for a charge, but they also have working weekends where you work a few hours a day on the farm and can stay for free. Sometimes they also do B&B but not sure about rates. Check them out and if you fancy a working weekend in Oct or Nov we can meet up there if they have spaces. Website: https://www.lowershawfarm.co.uk
Scottish Preppers if I can I would love to come along to your meet, it is a long way and quite expensive to get there but if I find a cheap rail ticket I would try to come along for sure and make it a mini holiday! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
We would love to have you Cattie ! Ok so when were we thinking of this meet everybody - would you want Sept sometime? Or Oct ? But not any later cos it's too cold for me LOL -will be in hibernation mode in Nov
Even if we set up a few smaller meets that would do if we can't all agree on the one day...?

KK, how about two weeks today? That's Wednesday September 5th. I'm not sure how well a proper afternoon tea would fit in with both wanting to sit around and chat for a few hours v some of us having to scamper off for school pick up but we could have lunch with a lot of cake or indeed an early lunch, lots of chat and then afternoon tea for these who had the time to stay for it. Or something like that anyway. But we could set the date at least.Val.0 -
Mardatha thank you! However I am away for most of September, October is too near to book a cheap ticket, so I shall have to see how it goes. You do your plans don't worry about me of course, but I shall follow with interest and if I can I shall try to come. If not, I want to hear all about it though! With photos please!
Tonight I am going for a stock-up shop as DH is going to drive me, I want to have a good stock of tinned tomatoes and pasta while there are decent offers around. I feel naked when my food cupboards ar low on stock!
Have a good day all. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
As long as I get a few weeks notice so I can tell my work - I'm on a casual contract so its more courtesy than anything else
oh this means I need to drive in Edinburgh *gulp* though somewhere with free parking would be awesome (only parking ticket ever was Chambers bloody st). Otherwise ill get a train!!!!
:AStarting again on my own this time!! - Defective flylady! :A0 -
Over on UKP we're talking about this and one girl had the great idea of combining the meet in Ikea with a visit to Costco next door ... I'm a member from when I had my soap business and am happy to trail round with anybody who wants a wee look (bring LOTS of money and a bib for drool)..
We could have two dates if need be - one for weekday people and one for weekenders ? I can come (and sit and drink tea and eat cake) anytime
But I'd prefer earlier in the day really because the roads get very busy in the late afternoon.0 -
Free parking at Ikea dragonette and its on the west side just off the bypass0

You don't need to drive into Edinburgh to get to Ikea, it's off the bypass at the Straiton junction. And the car park is huge and free.Val.0 -
apropos torches, does anyone know if those wind-up ones are any good? They're expensive in camping shops but they pop up 2nd hand from time to time.
I got a few of those wind up torches, one for upstairs; one downstairs, and one for the car, from the £shop.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
