Having a quick read before I start more pickling :D:D Trying to do it today while all the doors are open else the sprogs all moan about the smell :rotfl:

That's just spooky I've been re-arranging my pit of a bedroom and found my crochet stuff the other day..plan to finally make something with it so shall be after some tips!

On the stash front I need Decaf PG tips so on the lookout for deals..I got 4 boxes when it was 2 for £6 recently at Sainsbugs but wished I'd got more as DS3 is ploughing through it

I've been reading a site recently will add a link in a mo and although its LDS its very good and well put together. http://preparedldsfamily.blogspot.co.uk/

I've also printed up some stuff to laminate for the fridge with emergency contacts etc..I tend to keep everything all round the house as its outgrown the Armageddon cupboard under the stairs and read somewhere its not a lot of use having it if no-one else apart from me knows where it is and I'm not about for whatever reason :oSo I've also got a list for that too.

I just got another two of the Karrimor Urbans for spares, lightsticks for the BOB's (mine were getting a bit old),a hiking stick, and two water carriers..

We have a wet room so no bath to fill if the water went off

I've been reading about the Missisipi river being closed, due to drought..its going to cause some probs in the area as a lot of stuff is transported down the river and the lack of water is causing the seawater to come further inland which in turn has contaminated the drinking water in some places..the weather seems to be weird this year wherever you are!

More than ever posts seem to disappear without warning on MSE, I wonder why. It only seems to happen here...

Anyhow, lets hope you are right!:p

That's amazing, even just regarding the humble pea...suspect frozen veg will remain cheaper in price but I suspect even it will rise...

On the other hand yesterday I purchased some fresh leeks(8 in a bag and they cost...£1)It was cheaper to buy eight than just one...so even if I waste some...

You'll be happy to know that on the radio they say that all households are £1 a week better off...I haven't noticed...

    Hi all,

I am a long term lurker, just wanted to pop in to let you all know that instore in Wilkinson's they have 50% off all their camping equipment. So I bought:

2 x whistles - they are on lanyards and include a compass, matchbox, flint starter and signal mirror.
    1 x compass
1 x cookset - incl frying pan, pot with lid, dish and cup.
1 x cooker ( small metal stand to use with solid fuel tablets).
2 x pack of solid fuel tablets
    1 x sewing kit
    1 x map case
1 x pack of 3 water tight pouches

    All for £13.00.

In poundland they have some headlamps which seem okay. They take AAA batteries so will also stock up on those.

Just popped to Ald! and spent £20 on preps (£10 on stuff for now)...

Got loads of tins all with dates up to 2016; fruit and veg, some honey, sugar and salt.

I also managed to get a headtorch! It was by chance that I saw them as they were with the fishing equipment, in case anyone wants to take a look - they were £3.00 and come with 3 triple a batteries. (I can never find them in p0undland)

I got some double width masking tape so I now have enough to do all the doors and windows if necessary.

I need to get some washing up liq as we have a DW so rarely use the stuff - if the elec went off I would need some to get dishes clean. (assuming I had used all the paper plates :D )

I appeared to be alongside a fellow prepper if what was in his trolley was anything to go by ;) Maybe there are more of us than I thought :j

I got a roll from b&q for £7, says it will do 7 radiators. You'll need double sided tape or something else to fix it with. I haven't put it up yet.

Fruball if others are interested in the South of England there is this place, Lower Shaw Farm, near Swindon, they mostly have workshop weekend for a charge, but they also have working weekends where you work a few hours a day on the farm and can stay for free. Sometimes they also do B&B but not sure about rates. Check them out and if you fancy a working weekend in Oct or Nov we can meet up there if they have spaces. Website: https://www.lowershawfarm.co.uk

Scottish Preppers if I can I would love to come along to your meet, it is a long way and quite expensive to get there but if I find a cheap rail ticket I would try to come along for sure and make it a mini holiday!

That sounds good, I'm guessing we could train to Swindon ok? I can't do the weekend of 3&4 Nov though.

I've just been to the mill to stock up on flour, and I'm delighted to report that their prices haven't gone up yet at all! It's not the cheapest flour, but by golly it's good, as they say, and cheaper than the "good" supermarket flours when bought direct from them. I should have enough for the winter now, and I have airtight storage for it in an old freezer, where sacks of oats & rice also reside. The mill is only 15 miles away, but it's 15 miles up hill & down dale, on tiny rural roads with tight turns, overhanging greenery & cottages & monstrous foreign lorries following their satnavs - you wouldn't want to drive that road in even a light frost unless you had to! I go 2 or 3 times a year and always combine the trip with other errands.

Need more matches... No good having hundreds of candles, a garden cooking stove & an open fire without matches, is it?! I wonder if you can still get spills, the things you used to go around the house lighting candles with? Much more practical than striking 25 matches in one night...

  • How about we start a Scottish meet thread and then days/times don't get lost within the SHTF stuff? I didn't want to presume that was okay and start one since it's not my thread and I don't post that often (but do read daily), if you think it's a rubbish idea that's okay too.

If the day suits I would love to come along too although I might have to bring DD depending on day/time.

I bought a packet of 20 organic petro-chemical free firestarters in Home Bargins for 99p and that's been my only emergency planning purchase lately. I'll get onto it properly when school days etc settle down.
