Ikea cafe then Costco? I'm happy with that :)

As long as we are sitting in the Ikea cafe and one of you lovely ladies are teaching me to crochet. If there is no crochet teaching then I'm not coming :p

I can do crochet but not well enough to teach it. I am however happy to teach spinning on a drop spindle to anyone who would like a go?

I started stockpiling a while ago, I have stashes of stuff all over the house LOL and my OH kept complaining that he couldn't get up the stairs even as there are tins, cans, boxes at the sides of each step even. I said 'its all food for if TSHTF' and he laughed and accused me of developing a hoarding habit.

Nah, I'm like you all, I see the possibility that things could get a lot worse and I like to be prepared. It comes from an old army saying that my OH said to me when we first met - Prior preparation and forward planning prevents a p*** poor performance' I just adapted that saying to suit myself and the current state our country seems to be in.

At the worst, we have stocks in for if ever we are skint, at best, we are the one's that would survive should disaster strike etc. I love this thread!

I managed to get quite a bit of pasta and chopped tomatoes, tins of carrots, jars of new potatoes from AF and basic tea bags from Mr S.

Going to have a browse on AF later as they have lovely jars of white sauce and a good offer on tea bags etc.

Kicking myself I did not buy more liptons iced tea when they had it and dds love the stuff.

I'm hoping to pick up some wind up torches when we meet at Ikea. Already have lots of candles, they were our saviour a few months ago when our power went out for 2 days. Luckily we have a gas cooker so we didn't starve!

I really don't know where to start tbh. Maybe at the first page of this thread..... :rotfl: Keep wanting to buy blankets, DH thinks I'm mad!

:) Don't blame you for being excited, just cursing my long distance from your neck of the woods (hundreds of miles away, wah). Enjoy yourselves.

This week my considered opinion on the stash is grains, and things which eat grains. I shall be buying more rice puds at 12p a tin, and having road-tested Sainsbugs corned beef and found it fine, I shall be stocking up on those, too. Prices are only going up and it's a useful standby.

Having noticed that the cooking oils in store have Aug 2013 dates, I shall be adding another 4 litres to the stash, which will bring me up to a 12 month supply. I've heard that the rapeseed crop is poor this year, so I expect that this will end up costing more. Don't know how the sunflowers have faired, but suspect increases in fuel prices increases in food prices will mean across the board, so most stuff will probably go up.

Consulting with the inventory suggests that I'm still good for tinned tommies ;) but the puree pile could be replenished and I'm always on the lookout for baked beans if I can get a 4 packl for £1, as you still can, sometimes. I shall consider adding some more sweetcorn as the harvest in USA has been terrible and it's likely to cost more. And the burgering prices never go back down again, do they?!

Good for flour and dried yeast, could do with a few more rolls of t.p.

Off-piste, I shall keep an eye on the end-of-season sales of camping kit as have one or two camping/ bugout bits which have seen better [STRIKE]days[/STRIKE] decades and will look to replace them. Oh, and I'm building a stock of bottled water, in case of outages. I shall attach small parcel type labels (50p pack from c.s.) to their necks to hold the BB dates for easy management of the rotation. I'm considering laminating them as have a pen which will write on plastic and then I can easily change the dates and keep the labels going.

I'm also planning to butch-up and hit the Army Surplus to buy a firesteel to play with (the Mad Bushcrafters taught me last year but I want my own and to practice using it).

Phew, good job I shall own a shopping trolley in a few hours. What's on your preps, Mar?

  • I would love to come but thought no chance money wise but my oldest son has just phoned - well at 8am - to say he wants to start paying back the money we have given him over the years, before, during and after Uni until he got on his feet a few years ago we were always sending him money, never asked or expected it back. He made me promise I would do something for me out of it, as I tend to put any money I get in the house so this would be something for me:)

He is sending me a few hundred so enough for hubby to take day or two off work and cover petrol and stay over - although if we take sleeping bags etc we could stay in dads flat in Glasgow as its still unsold as factor needs to do some roof repairs, so will have a word with brother who still lives in Glasgow, or we can stay at brothers(its where I am from even though live in England now). Also been worrying as have so little in stocks and no money to add much so be using the rest for stocking up.

Sorry nothing to do with anything here but just so excited about it. I want to learn crochet properly, can do basic have made gloves, hats etc but on in basic stitch and spinning I want to learn.
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
