Westlothian and Midlothian - are you interested in a meetup some day in Edinburgh? Just a natter and a lots of tea and cakes ? And anytime you're going south over Soutra, look to your right and gimme a wee wave !

I know a good place for tea and cakes..Ikea! They do afternoon tea for two for £10 if you have the free Family Card but that includes six big cakes, two biscuits, two packs of sandwiches (cut up into dainty quarters) and two pots of tea with free refills. I've been a couple of times with friends and split it three ways (you need to buy an extra drink for this) and had cakes left over. Good place for cake lovers ;). And Ikea is a useful shopping stop for prepping.

I have a family card and like Ikea but would need to bring the husband as I don't drive and it's not handy for a bus route from the Borders :(

Where do the Borders buses come in to Edinburgh? I could always pick you up from somewhere.

Are you sure Ikea are ready for this?

On the SHTF note, have bought 1 ltr bottles of spirits from T*sco this morning for £15 each. Am working on the theory that if things get that bad we can either get drunk and ignore it or use it for trade.

Ooh(butts in). Where in t'borders are you? Mardatha?

I'm In Ed, just up the hill from savacentre :)

Must say I'm not a shtf-er. (although I've been following with interest). I am a hoarder though so by that nature would prob have loads in if the shtf anyway!

  • Caterina - I haven't made clothes yet but will soon, atm I have limited time and money so need to make something I'm happy wearing. If SHTF I could prob make just about anything from crochet, or french knitting or tatting etc for ropes and cord. I cannot however knit to save my life!
Will need to start spining the next time work dries up

I'm in glasgow so could get to edinburgh or even aberdeen etc for a meet, I wonder how many of us are central belt? For a UK meet I would have one space in the car (unless its far enough in advance tht I could afford train tickets).

I promise I could teach anyone here how to crochet in 10 mins, and after an hour you'd never look back :) its the one thing I'm really confident with, though getting clothes flattering is still an issue...

Abdn train tickets 12weeks in advance can be bought for around 8.40 each way. From Ed. (I just purchased some yest as I'm going there for the weekend in Nov)

Also their travelodge justice mill lane (which I'm assured is in the middle of town and a new hotel) was £39 a nit for a twin room (£20 each if sharing)
