What will people think when they find the salt in my divan drawers?
:D You should worry; if you'd lift the valance on my bedstead you'd see a trolley-borne horizontal larder of tinned goods.

I was going to say, 'zombies' are a work of fiction. There again - when I think of the scenes at the local Woolies closing down sale....
:) I am still twitching at the memory of going into the food section of M & S when they were reducing stuff. Gordon Bennett, I'm a strapping lass of nearly 6 feet and would box as a heavyweight but I nearly got killed by posh wimmin with serious attitude.

Vowed to stick with my own sort as T0sco and Mr M and the Co Op as they're more polite and gentle in those stores.
Well said dragon, we need more members, any takers?
:j Please, Miss, please Miss, can I be an old bat?

It's all I've ever wanted, really........... Well, that and twice my own bodyweight in chocolate..........:rotfl:

Been busily living my RL life, which has involved all sorts of stuff and a trip to the allotmentino for an hour.

As I was delving in the soil, I came to the conclusion that true wealth, as opposed to paper wealth, all comes back to fertile soil. Lose that, and then you have no food and it all goes to hell in a handbasket. Gardening is prepping. So is knitting jumpers and chopping wood and learning how to cook from scratch, if that is a need, or brushing up your expertise, if that's your level.

I've continued to stick my nose into the post-SuperStorm Sandy coverage in the US where troubles continue for so very many people.

What I've found astonishing right from the start is that people had the best part of a week's notice that the storm was coming and that it would be terrible and so many people had done beggar-all to help themselves ahead of time. It's one game if your entire home was swept away but those people are a minority of those affected.

I have a new preptastic toy which I am trialling with view to making it a preppy bit. It is a J Lewis own brand portable radio, the Columbus II.

:p Darlings, it has a torch at one end, with an option to have a red flashing light and a siren. The other end has a phone charger. You can charge the critter via USB off your pooter. It has a solar cell, a crank handle, a Ni-MH battery which can be charged an adaptor or by solar or winding and a place for 3 AAA batteries. I'm using it on the Ni-MH battery and will experiment with the other functions to make sure it's fantabulous. What a great little toy for £20. Bet there are a few NY people who would have been glad to have one...........sound is pretty good as well.

Best thing from my POV is that it's small and plasticky and not liable to attract villainy if parked on the window sill sunning it's solar cell.

OK, need to raid my tea stash to brew up. Laters, my lovely batties, laters.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

hello all, had a mare of a week culminating in a PIG of a journey to Cardiff, resulting in my being abandoned on Reading Station platform for THREE (yep 3) hours having missed the connection due to a late starting service then having 3 trains cancelled at short notice. Overall ended up in my ended up arriving in Cardiff at 0230 yes as in two thirty am and having to be in for a 0900 conference which I was speaking at.

However in true prep style I had emergency chocolate, water and charged phones, books, hat, scarf and warm coat. I was not bored just fighting cold and sleep at the end. I was still KNACKERED and fed up being 4 hours late and have spent the day concentrating hard so now feel that my head is on a boat. But remembered to restock on chocolate and water before attempting the return journey and chatting to nice man on train he let me sit in 1st class as it was rammed and I was standing next to the loos (lovely!) so had a more comfortable journey back.

I am now off to bed I need more sleep.

  • Think I probably score fairly high on the batscale too... have spent most of the day slaving over a hot drum-carder & if that isn't batty when there's potential flooding to panic about, I don't know what is. Except possibly going to the farm shop to buy more mixed poultry corn, and coming out with a (rather lovely) fleece...

May I please apply for the position of Lady Pipistrello (Italian for bat)? If in doubt, I can provide references from my family and a long list of ancestral Pipistrelli, my dear Mother being the notable living example!

On Zombies: I have seen them! They were being driven in coach loads to invade Bicester Village! Horrid vision! As a result I have made a life plan, starting a blog to document my year of giving up inessentials.

The blog and the beginning of the year will start tomorrow, Saturday 24th November. Significant date as it is the UK's But Nothing Day. I shall post a link to my blog tomorrow!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I've got the same one! Except at the time I bought it, it was marketed as the DEGEN DE13. And yes it's fantabulous!
On the subject of stashing, I was horrified, on going into the bedroom one night, to see something dark run up the curtains!. The mouse (I think) then disappeared under the wardrobe. I could barely sleep that night because in my divan drawers was not only salt but oats, rice, flour, pasta.... I remembered a neighbour telling me how 'something' had chomped it's way into her rucksack to get at a packet of trailmix. So I lay there imagining Mr and Mrs Mouse and all the little mouses plus their aunts and uncles and cousins partying like there was no tomorrow below my sleeping body . Anyhow next morning when I finally dared to open the drawers everything was intact. But I moved everything chompable out into tough plastic containers.
No mouse signs since but I have those sonic thingies plugged in ;).
  • GreyQueen Look forward to review on the radio/torch/siren thingy. Sounds fab, just my kind of gadget :D

Salt, hmmm now that reminds me, must get more. Bourght so much a few years ago and keep forgetting to restock. (my excuse was that it would melt ice, but I figured it was also a preservative. Not that I know how to preserve meat with it lol)
Loo rolls now down to 76 and getting nervous, must by more.
Candles, currently testing sainsbobs 1 x 90 hr actually lasted 49 hours so not impressed. second one looks like it may do better. 60 hr candle lit and will report back on results in a few days.
Beef suet, running low and cost doubling so added to shopping list.

Reading through has made me realise how lucky I am to have an understanding oh. I often return from my hunter/gatherer shopping trips with alsorts with the justification "I thought it might come in handy if ......" We have alsorts of camping related stuff but are never likely to go camping. A lge box of value wipes and various toiletries just in case ! I am a terrible hoarder because of my fear of the what if ....
I think its genetic, my grandfather had kept alsorts and was a mend and make do character. We still have a giggle at the things we found stored and packed in cupboards when he passed away. I guess people will laugh at me one day too. The first time I propper prepped was prior to 2000 when people feared that computers woudn't cope and even it people weren't sure. It took almost 4 yrs to get through my stocks. I had a work shtf event and my stocks saved me from going hungry :)
Me and oh often discuss world events/news and bounce ideas of what we need or want for the shtf possibility. Thank god he understands me (he's my best mate too) We are together 24 7 so it's just as well. Anyway I appear to be rambing so I'll pop back tomorrow when my mind has slowed down. think it's time for a mental reboot.
Thanks 2T for keeping us updated on the weather and that pink sky is stange indeed.
    Stay safe all.
ps can I join the Batty club please ? I'm sure my stash of useful things would qualify me, they do have a purpose, I [STRIKE]might [/STRIKE] will use them one day. Honest :D
