Except possibly going to the farm shop to buy more mixed poultry corn, and coming out with a (rather lovely) fleece...
Now that sounds like my sort of shopping! I have to write notes because I can't remember what I need. I get to the shops and the note is still on the kitchen bench! Yesterday I got halfway through batch cooking Lasagnes and ran out of passata, I came back from the SM with Tonic Water and Breast Pads! Yes, the note was still at home,:rotfl:
Missrir:- Sounds like a nightmare journey, you must have been freezing!
GQ:- Nice gadget!
The stash I keep hidden is my collection of glass jars. I am unable to throw empty ones away! They are just too useful! I have a distinct uneasiness about the comments it will produce upon my demise, mostly because when we cleared my Dad's house he also had a considerable collection! I remember my brothers comments then. (he's not a prepper!)
Some of them do have chutney's, jams and Pickled egg in...Honest!Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”0 -
Queen Quester strikes again! what is kendal mint cake. I know it's like a chocolate bar (Seen it when I visited The Lakes) but what benefit would it have for a prepper?0

I think it's really high in calories and good energy food? I haven't tasted it. I must be slipping.. cake that I've never had!0

Kendal Mint Cake is a white hard mint flavoured sweety bar, it is/was taken by climbers/ramblers as emergency rations for long treks or hard climbs. It is very, very yummy too!!!!!
I think we may just have invented the Order of the Bat ladies, perhaps it should become the symbol of prepping and we should all wear a small Bat on our lapel when having a meetup so we all know who to look out for? (NO Not a real one - they are so easily distracted and fly off and upset everyone!!!) just a broach or a picture as a symbol of MSE Battiness.
Only wet here at the moment not windy and He who knows has taken the Lurcher out early to get the best of the day, I am off to a jumble sale in the village hall later to see what OS goodies are to be had today. It is usually a good source of blankets and old style kitchen equipment (have 2 steamer baskets at 20p each) and candles so will hopefully add to the supplies.
Have a safe day everyone and stay warm and dry if you can, Cheers Batty No2 aka Lyn xxx/0 -
Its a slab of sugar and glucose syrup with peppermint oil, the white and brown varieties have a huge shelf life (not sure about the chocolate covered version) and has the advantage of neither melting nor freezing at temperatures that humans can withstand. It was carried by Shackleton and eaten by Hilary and Tenzing at the top of Everest.
Its long been popular as part of a mountaineers survival kit. Its pretty much, just portable pure sugar.
Sorry Mar, its not cake, but its possibly the ultimate sweetie0 -
Brilliant, thank you everyone
I like the neither freezing nor melting.
I would be really interested in what preppers put in their emergency evacuation bags.
I'm interested in a bag that we would grab if that knock came that said "you need to go to ******, we're evacuating the area" 2 adults, 2 children and my dog. Are pets allowed to go to evacuation areas in general?0 -
