It's my stated ambition to be an old bat.
DD's reaction - But Mum, you're already an old batIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Im working on No-spend-vember at the moment so prepping is only being done in a very practical way. I found an old baccy tin belonging to Dd's OH so am turning it into a sewing box, working on emergency lists and backing up all I can onto memory sticks. Am continuing to sell on Fleabay to clear house of valuable un-necessary junk and doing well, so emergency fund building up nicely. Its also keeping my mind busy.
Having a totally O/S chrimbo as Dd has announced they dont want major pressies even for DGS which suits me fine, just stocking fillers. they are taking advantage of an offer to go to Alton towers next month for a couple of nights in the hotel, have checked the kiddy rides will be on and Little man can enjoy the lights and swimming pool as well as the rides. Makes much more sense than us trying to buy things for them so we are all making donations to their fund instead and they will have a few days of utter fun which they will remember for a lot longer.Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -
Ginny - My SIL did that last year. Christmas is difficult for her and her 2 kids since BIL died. So they took MIL as well - came here for christmas eve and christmas day and left on boxing day for Alton Towers (which isn't too far from here). Had a wonderful time and it helped them to have something to look forward to.I wanna be in the room where it happens0

What will people think when they find the salt in my divan drawers? :eek:0

More heavy rain expected over the weekend
Hope everyone is ok theres a few places without power today still.
I'm thinking this is going to have a dire effect on food prices again.
I mean I only have a small garden and its been such a challenging year but how the hell do you farm when its like this??
A lot of produce in the shops is dodgy before you even get it home, the potatoes from Tesco's are pants ATM.Luckily I still have some of ours stored and we have xmas ones growing in the greenhouse but I still buy the odd bag to eke out ours, wondering wether its worth it as I'm throwing more away than I get to use!
Ginny what a lovely treat hope they all enjoy their trip X
Hummingfridge glad to hear they're safe X
Thriftwizard hope all is ok with your dear mum X0 -
Hi all
Lovely to have new peeps, welcome x
A quick catch up..
Ginny , ditto everyone having a lovely time.
D&DD great to have you in our midst again, hope your feeling much better.
Mrs L love your posts , they are so thoughtfull and considerate
The cake, hope everything is okay, and your not having to make cakes in candle light?
and a hug to our mad bats :rotfl: , not that I can understand that particular affliction since i'm incredibly sane.
I'm feeling particularly "huggy" (not sure thats a real word lol) today so please take one if you need one.
Well the wind has now calmed slightly but its definately a tad damp in the garden so no chance of much happening outside today.
I think I need a day of faffing (sp?) and lazing around, feeling a bit run down so body is definately trying to tell me something. Got a copy of Sharon Astyk's book Depletion and Abundance (sorry link is not working) extremely cheaply on Amazon recently and so far i'm really enjoying it, so off to daydream and hatch some plans to be more self-sufficient.

Dear all
Sorry to hear some of you are going through it/horrendous weather. It's finally stopped raining here, but, more forecast over the week-end... Hope you are all well now, and prepping hard!
I have subscribed to thread, so, have been gradually catching up, honest, but at lot has gone on in RL. The news from abroad is sounding bad, hope all of them are being helped out, don't know how u are coping 2T....
Anyways, the news on the prepping front is that the critters are back (whispers so cwv can't hear...)
OH has caught 2 of the little blighters and disposed of them, without needing his spade. Not with his bare hands, of course, but by the cunning placement of traps. At least they died happy, stuffed on nuts.
DDog has been demoted from Hunting Hound, since she snored gently through an un-nerving gnawing episode in the middle of the night, whilst I was gingerly searching the rooms with my wind-up torch, and tied up pyjama legs. She is now officially a 'useless ornament' , but still cuddly all the same.
Not sleeping brilliantly, and have bleached everything in sight, hoovered, checked for nibbled goods, or ahem, deposits, so far the crafty boogers are hiding in the loft, sending out night raids to the traps.
They have swiftly learnt how to get the brazil nuts off the traps, for some reason I have the film 'Mousetrap' in mind! So I have bunkered down in the back room, blunt instrument at the ready, DDog is helping by kipping on the bed.
I 'may' have panicked slightly, I ate the emergency chocolate because we all know they nick the good stuff first, it was a terrible sacrifice, but someone had to do it....
OH has set more traps, but has resisted my call to get the 'man from the council' so far, as he feels it's his manly right to protect the home his way. Ray Mears has a lot to answer for.
I am now eying the biscuits, which would go rather nicely with my cup of tea, and keeping a weather ear open for nibblers.

Try to look on prepping as something of an insurance policy. Most people insure their house contents, car etc but don't spend their time worrying that it is going to happen. But it is difficult I know.
Look at it this way- we could any of us keel over from any number of causes any time (just looking at the bright side).
I sometimes wonder about the reaction to my stash if I were to die unexpectedly. They'll have me down as a mad old bat! :rotfl:

Can I be counted in the batty bigrade please, allthough I must point out I'v got the stock-piling habit off Mum, Sis in law asked what the hell had I bought the shopping bag's for when we had to clear the house out after Mum died, she had no idea how much there was! Needless to say some had gone rusty but most was OK and nither of us had to buy oxo's,salt or tinned tuna for the next 2 1/2 year's:eek:£71.93/ £180.000 -
How is everyone today? Not feeling brilliant today. I've had 2 slices of dry toast so far and I still feel sick. OH doing my head in as not allowed to be quiet/not my normal self/ill as he thinks there's a problem..... er no, I'm not well, my stomach hurts, my back hurts, I'm not prone to sleeping all day unlike you (crashed out on the sofa when I got home yesterday) and if I'm not well I just want to sleep.
Unfortunately he doesn't see it that way and trying to make him understand is a monumental task. I'm at work (no work, no pay) and I still feel sick. I've taken anti-sickness tablets and paracetamol. I can't even get my belt on as my stomach is swollen. Feeling downright miserable.
