2tonsils I wondered that. I thought the French could possibly be aimed at North African immigrants but English and Spanish? Although they could have a few backpackers from Oz and New Zealand, it's unlikely to be a significant number.
I have read more than one report suggesting that a lot of the police are Golden Dawn supporters. In which case one wonders quite to what extent they will be , shall we say, zealous in distributing these leafletsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
That did cross my mind Maryb as well. Since the police currently do not have money for petrol for patrols and haven't been paid for months I hope the funding pays for their efforts as well.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. morning all - I hope no one has got wet feet with the yukky weather swirling around
silly busy at the moment - had a friend to visit for a few days and helping another friend move house soon plus trying to get organised in general so that I feel "prepared" in my own little world - not sure how but I've got a bit out of sorts with everything so need to sort myself out again
I've had to skim the last week or so, apologies, hope everything for everyone is as good as it can be and that we're all still prepping - keep safe xBlah0 -
Seriously reviewing preps this morning - the river is out of its bed & all over the floodplain now & the forecast is for "torrential rain & severe gales" - it's never flooded here, since these houses were built in the late 1890s/early 1900s, but I think it might be wise to assume that it could happen. And I've got to drive down to Mum's, as it turns out that potentially she is pretty sick, and take her to the hospital for tests, my stepfather being too shaky to drive. Which means crossing both floodplains...
Not to mention the fact that it turns out that the landline & internet are not exactly mended after all - they'd forgotten to reconnect them at the exchange for four days, but now we're reconnected, it still keeps going on & off anyway! Apparently the line is earthing somewhere & shorting out whenever a call comes through - great, when you have a sick 86 y.o. depending on you.
Luckily OH has a couple of days off, so I'm not leaving the house unattended if push comes to shove with the water. Now to try to tell him what to take upstairs; he'll want to rescue his footy programmes first & foremost! Wish me luck...Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

Thriftwizard sorry to hear your mum is poorly, hope all goes well for you today XX
I need to make some more lists!!
I managed to get a couple of the pukka pads cheaply on amazon so will be using one for a manual for the household..they seriously need a few lessons for when I'm out of action..0 -
Now that I am more or less stocked on basics (you can never have 'enough' but you know what I mean
) I am turning my attention to health - which is probably just as, if not more important.
I'm at that age where everything seems to fall apart..So I'm really making an effort to eat healthily within the restrictions of my budget.
But did anyone see that 80 year old hitch hiker on TV this morning?

Whatever he's on, I want some of it. Luck and good genes probably play a part and we can't all be him but what an example to us all. Amazing man :T0 -
Talking of stocking up, we have a 99p store nearby called FAMILY SAVER and they currently have Arm and Hammer Sensitive Whitening Toothpaste, and Listerine Mouthwash 250ml bottles both at 99p they also have Knights Castile Soap 5 Bars for 99p all of which will keep for ages without deteriorating. Might be worth a look if anyone has a 99p shop nearby, really good value, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

Latest on weather in UK...another warning will be issued later today on UK stormchasers
UK Storm Chasers
Liked · 46 minutes ago
The strong winds continue with some phenomenal rainfall returns out there, with embedded thunderstorms, in what we call a 'squall line'.
We are keeping an eye on yet another deep area of low pressure for Saturday in to the early hours of Sunday morning across the South, with storm force winds possible (different model outputs vary) and yet more heavy rain, another advanced weather warning will be issued 6pm tonight.
Stay safe out there.“The superior man, when resting in safety, does not forget that danger may come. When in a state of security he does not forget the possibility of ruin.” Confucius (551 BC - 479 BC):A0 -
Just catching up with posts - I am a fast reader!
Hello to newbies and lurkers and hope everyone is staying safe. It is verrrry windy here but no rain today - it rained heavily yesterday. Will put dinner on for OH soon as he may walk home just as the rain is starting.
Thanks D&DD for saying you hope my relations stay safe-they are doing so.
Watching Channel 5 news as I type but not much about Greece so thank you for updates as always 2Tonsils.Keep calm and keep crafting :happyhear0 -
Absolutely vicious weather here: very heavy rain blown almost horizontal by strong winds. I nipped out to top up supplies and felt I wanted to get home as soon as I could! I live in a tiny hamlet at the bottom of a hill, one lane out is still very deeply flooded, the steep hill route is blocked by a fallen tree, so that leaves just one, which is OK so far, and does not have any obvious potential floody bits, tho' I am sure it could if it tried....
I feel a bit better now that I have stocked up on more horse feed, cold remedies, ingredients for the Christmas cake (mainly dried fruit and rum: I am trying a "black cake" this year for a change), Kilner jars (so I can make some limoncello, and quince brandy) and most important of all, chocolate. I'm pleasantly surprised the elec. is still on, but have located matches and tealights just in case, and have the big LED torch on charge. I will now light the woodburner and settle in for the evening, prepped and cosy. Love to all, stay safe, warm and dry. Looks like it will be a long and challenging winter! xx
ETA: thriftwizard, warm thoughts to you and your Mum. Hope it went OK today, hugs.0
