  • craigywv Well done with your impressive list, hope you feel better now.

nuatha Thanks, had a read of the EMP report and its quite worrying how unprepared and vulnerable we are.

lally666young I also question living in a world full of danger, violence and god knows what after a major shtf event, but still I prepare. It gives me comfort to prepare when you see whats really going on around us/the world. Its a focus (sometimes obsession ) that drives me at times.

Mum called round the other day and looked around at the clutter and food and commented that she couldn't understand my siege mentality. I merely said I was fearful of our income drying up ! I've tried to enlighten her of the news and future possibilities but she says she is too old to worry about stuff and doesn't want to know. She actually thinks I spend too much time on the internet and I should do other stuff, but I like to be informed and certainly do't trust the msm.
I'm still looking at Faraday cages, not for mobiles or even the laptop but for more basic items such as rechargeable batteries and a small solar charger, torches, a solar powered radio and maybe a mp3/4. If an emp event occurred it would surely render batteries and torches useless if not protected. Also on my wish list is a couple of walkie talkies. So if anyone has any recommendations I'd be grateful.

good evening all, just had a very bizarre day....this morning we all got letters from the housing association regarding bedroom tax saying that under occupancy will have to pay for the extra rooms etcc. well my door rapped about 4 o clock it was a woman and a man they just came out and asked would i swop houses with them as i have a 2 bedroom and they have a 3 bedroom and they will have to pay for 2 rooms for housing benifit. I have never seen these people before in my life i was shell shocked and because i was stunned into silence the man started to get quite aggressive saying "are you going to or what" at that point i just bust out laughing asking was this a joke ,he said no it wasnt so i politelty told them i was not moving to which he then said its not fair you have a 2 bedroom house !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!sorry but he wasnt complaining before he had to pay for the extra rooms. I cant believe the cheek of them ! i think this bedroom tax will cause a bit of a do around here. still in shock at the way he got on .lol

    Flash warning of severe weather

Warning type: Heavy rain, severe gales, and flooding.

This is an early weather warning for the risk of strong to gale force winds during the next few days.

A complex series of small low pressure systems are expected to run very close to the UK during the course of Thursday and Friday.

The strongest of these winds move across the bulk of England and Wales during the course of Thursday, transferring from west to east through the day. During the evening, a secondary low pressure system is expected to run close to the NW of Scotland, and with it the highest of the winds transfer to here during the night.

And then on Friday morning, current modelling takes a shortwave feature across SW England, swinging NE up towards Yorkshire by evening. Winds during these three events are likely to reach between 50-60mph, with winds of up to 70mph possible along windward coasts and across higher elevations.

This is likely to lead to some disruption to transport, particularly to high-sided vehicles. Further to this, some particularly high rainfall totals are expected across western areas during the next few days, and with this falling on to already saturated ground, the possibility of localised flooding is high

We have still got the storms and torrential rain here in Greece. I have had enough of it , can we have the sun back please? Pretty please?

Unfortunately we had to finish off the toffees and chocolate supplies before I went Primal............tough eh?

Craigywv I am stunned at the cheek of them! I would not swap with someone that rude ever, even if it cost me.

Lyn I was so glad I could help my dd. It has only made a tiny dent in the stores. The kids faces lit up when they saw the food, especially the sweets :)
DD told me her oh's sister waited 12 weeks for her money. We all discussed the new u credit coming in next year or so and they will be starting their own storage ready for the change over because it is more than likely there will be long delays before it gets sorted.

I think there will be a lot that fall through the cracks.

I'm a long time prepper/lurker. I am not sure if everything would ever go totally belly up (though I don't rule it out) but prepare for any number of scenarios - like fuel shortages, shops being emptied, cashpoints being emptied, bank closures, civil unrest, pandemic, chemical etc attacks, power failures, extreme weather....
You can't prep for everything and I'm not sure if I would want to live in a 'mad max' type world anyway - but I at least plan to be able to hunker down and sit out a situation for a few months. Meanwhile anyone want a ton of budget white pasta? This idiot stocked up then decided to go low carb - ot at least restrict herself to the brown wholemeal stuff

In some ways I think now alot of my prepping is about the price rises coming in food etc as well as possible problems with income-the new UC when it comes in, OH is recently self emplyed and it isn't completely clear how this will effect us/how well his business will be doing once we change over. Plus reductions in council tax benefits etc. So we are thinking stock up and tighten the belts now, to prepare for then.

The other bits of prepping are there for the off chance something more rare happens, but the financial issues are pretty much a certainty for all of us I think.

Mind you all that said I am still tempted to buy stuff lol. A friend recently told me when they emptied her Mum's house (they sadly lost her a few months ago-but in her 90's so a good run) they found a "weird, plug in pan thing from lakeland" and when her oven packed up at weekend she had a go and made the best cake she had eaten in years-not a Remoska says I lol. She was shocked I had heard of it.

Sadly its now reminded me how much I fancied one previously, and with the cost of electric going up and up having to not use the big oven as often would really help-just so expensive in the first place.

MIL and my sister usually give me vouchers/cash though for crimbo, so may ask for lakeland vouchers, they will get used for something even if I change my mind about the Remoska.
