  • Well just a quick extra this morning, bought 2 good quality space blankets (BOGOF!), a torch/glowstick combo with a whistle (£3.50) and a bit of a impulse but a survival tin reduced to £15 from £24. The tin includes the following all together in a waterproof metal tin, adhesive bandages, compass, candle, cotton wool, dressings, salt, snare, vinyl tape, waterproof matches, water carrier, fishing hook, flint & steel fire lighter, whistle, mirror, multi tool, pencil, razor blade, safety pins and a wire saw. Althoug I have some of these items these are all neatly packed in a easy carry tin.

craigwyv after reading your list last night if you are not prepared for SHTF nobody is!!! LOL

ok i have stock piled food to the max my home will hold, got shed full of rotating 17p tescos bottles of water, got candles in abundance, wind up torches bugout bags secretly hidden for the 3 of us all documents copied and in fireproof box buried in secret hidden location in back of garden ab no-one could find it without metal detector...i had probs finding it the other day! i have wind up radio, a enough batteries for the neighbourhood, all veg and some fruit is homegrown enough seeds to start a farm, warm blankets/clothes , sturdy walking boots and shoes for us all, cast iron cauldron grill and a metal chimnea grill 6 large bags of charcoal and lighting stuff, buckets of peat to burn also fields over here filled with the stuff i live beside bog meadows! metal cooking and boiling equipment. 4 man tent and camping stuff for us 3.car up to scratch good wheels etc and we all have bikes anyway and puncture kits ..............anything else i missing? forgot have medications loads of first aid , i have st johns ambulance, feel sort of secure now , dont know why i writing this just came as an inspiration to me to list my shtf list. im sure i have forgot many things i also have water purification tabs and books on survival and trapping also a couple of pellet guns these were my brothers years ago ...still work great also a catapult have it too. i think im going through bad nerves again and rambling as oh is in work tonight and son in bed and i very anxious over him being made redundant 2nd week in dec even though i have everytthing paid / up to date/ in for christmas...now im thinking survival sorry if i have rambled /melted brains or just annoyed people but just needed to get this down on paper as the saying goes to calm myself down sorry.
OMG!!! I thought I was bad :rotfl::rotfl:. I did manage to do erm how do I put it, a long time borrrow on a paramedic bag that was left in the place were I work. I dont know what it was doing down were I work as we never see any paramedics!!! So me and the 3 porters tossed a coin, and I won it!!!! So I have plenty of dressings, sterile water and nebules for our porta neb!! Ohh and plenty of painkillers as well.
I have been thinking about the end and if it ever did happen, I think I would just stand there and have my family around us. If you have seen threads, I dont think I could live like that. I am trained to and I have trained my family to, but I dunno?? What sort of life would it be afterwords??? I would say if anything and the instructor told us this, was to have a gun which we do as DH likes to go hunting when he is off. And access to clean safe water. When we asked about food, he said water is the greatest of all needs. And TBH I wouldnt even bother about a faraday cage, as mobile and land lines in fact eveything would be down. So there is no real point in keeping a mobile with you.
shelter, water and a weapon! And yes I agree with vital documents. but not money as it wont be worth anything at all! We will go back to the old system of bartering.
Has anyone seen my last marble:A:A:A:A

Someone mentioned a microwave but surely after an emp hit there would be no electric supply? In the incident that happened in the 1890's the telegraph wires fried and metal fences were so hot from it that they started grass fires. Modern electric circuits and electronics would be very prone to damage. There would be no electric supply, power to pump petrol or water, no sewage service (as they work on pumps) no freezers or fridges working......it doesn't take much imagination to see how bad it would be after a few days of this. Most likely cause would be a solar flare and not a weapon.

Got horrendous weather here, high winds and torrential rain.

Totally agree re men and effing cars - although in this family its the effing bikes :D. I am still spending too much but still finding gaps in the stash, plus the RV keeps changing his diet and I now have a cupboard full of bread flour and the big sod's decided he isn't going to eat any more bread!

What are you supposed to do again if the sewage is failing or backing up? You put something into the toilet I think?
  • Afternoon all, Men just do not do shopping do they? He who knows gets into a shop, picks up the first thing on the list and then says 'Haven't you finished yet?' and heads for the check out!!!!! If sent out on his own he usually comes back with sausage rolls, instant mash and baked beans regardless of what is on the list BECAUSE I LIKE THEM and I couldn't find anything else!!!!! Much easier to go alone methinks, yes?

CRAIGY - my goodness that is an impressive amount of preparedness I am totally impressed, well done you!

GRANDMA - Your poor daughter, you are such a good Mum and isn't it good to have the stock in already? well done you too!

It is miserable and wet here today, so I'll walk the lurcher this afternoon and then go to ground with a good book I think, in front of the fire, Cheers Lyn xxx.

    .

Surely contacting the local ambulance service and returning it would have been the better option than tossing a coin.

Stealing after the SHTF is bad enough, but doing so before really does make we not want to be around afterwards....

I have just done the same thing...got stocks of cheap gluten free bread mix in and decided not to eat any bread for the near future.... I decided to go Primal for a while as it suits me better.:D

Sitting on the settee sharing toffees with my OH. He is a very good shopper, he goes with me and even spots bargains and stuff for my prep. He can fix things and has very inventive ideas...so I guess I will keep him lolo:rotfl:

  • Hello all! Been MIA for the best part of a week due to a very minor SHTF situation; we lost the landline & 'net altogether. Given an 86 y.o. sick mother in another town, a 20 y.o. son halfway up the Andes & a business that runs partially online, that's far from ideal. As my elderly mobile was very limited & the battery's on it's way out, & a mobile dongle for the Mac just plain didn't work, I went out & signed up for something more recent. And discovered that we're living in the equivalent of GQ's hardware store basement most of the time... our mobile phone signal is pathetic at the best of times, on all networks! But at least given the new mobile, I can wander off & find a signal or a wifi hotspot & get the odd transaction sorted or FB updated so the absent offspring & lodger (currently windsurfing off the coast of Morocco) can see I'm still alive, should they need to know.

It's been a very interesting week; I got a fair bit done, one way or another, but felt a bit as if I'd lost a limb. Off to write a blog post shortly, because it's highlighted some ways in which we, as a household & small business, have become dangerously dependant, as well as not being nearly as resilient as I'd thought. And it has implications for other households, thinking of friends with disabilities... Thinking cap time!
